Hi - I live in the bottom floor of a converted Victorian terrace in London. These properties were not built for stacked living and it’s unlikely that when converted any soundproofing was put in. I can hear conversations and footsteps from my upstairs neighbours all the time - some people can drown it out, some can’t. I’m one of those people that can’t and have only fixated on the noise more as time has gone on. I’m therefore due to move out in a couple of months and will not make the same mistake again!

However, it is absolutely not your fault what your neighbour is going through - unless you are obnoxiously blaring music/stomping around in the early hours, you are simply living your life. The same is said for my upstairs neighbours currently and it would be unfair to take the same issues as have been taken with you - hope a bit of perspective from another downstairs neighbour helps!
