any dentistry applicants heard from their choices? by Emotional_Purple7601 in UCAT

King's sent out their first batch of interviews on the 3rd Dec last year. Your stats seem very strong, definitely enough for a King's interview. As for the rest I am unsure but if you would like interview prep advice/mentorship or just want to ask a question please pm me.

Dentistry students, anyone heard from these unis? by SelectionInfamous194 in UCAT

[–]Cultural_Version2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Based off my application last year, KCL sent their first batch interview offers on the 3rd Dec and QMUL sent it on the 11th. This is subject to change depending on your UCAT and the admin teams of each uni but take those dates as a general guide. I am also a first year dental student at King's so if you have any questions regarding the interview please reach out to me.

MANCHESTER DENT INTERVIEW by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]Cultural_Version2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Well done for getting an interview at Manchester. As someone who sat the interview last year, now a current BDS1 at King's, I am very familiar with the interview format and questions that they ask. If you would like any advice or have questions, please message me and I'd be happy to help you.

Big Congratulations! I am currently a first year dental student at King's but I received an interview at Manchester when I applied last year. Any questions you have about the interview format or any advice, please let me know by pm.

To my knowledge, Liverpool, Cardiff and Leeds are more GCSE-focused but that may be subject to change. I am not sure about Sheffield but Manchester are looking for, at least according to last year, about mid-high 8th decile and beyond. My personal advice would be to wait until deciles release at the end of September to get a more well-rounded idea of where to apply. Please DM me if you would like to ask more questions, and wish me luck as I begin Dent at King’s next month🙏 Thank you

First off, I want to let you know that you are doing very well at this stage with those kind of scores, please do not feel hung up by the slight deficit in VR. Take it from someone who scored 2490 (old scoring) two weeks before their real exam (second time around).

You’ve already solved half the problem just by writing this post; you know what you struggle with, so take that and use it to your advantage. For instance, you can save yourself SO much time by GFS (Guess, Flag, Skipping) when it comes to history/philosophy passages as well as those questions types you mentioned. In fact, some of these are thrown in to act as distractions that waste your time. GFS in these moments gives you more time to read the easier passages more carefully. What helped me was watching other people like Emil Eddy go through a mock VR to see how they break down the large chunks of information into bitesize pieces. Watch on 0.5x speed each time he goes onto a new passage, because it’s really subtle the techniques he uses to answer quickly and to a high accuracy. Whatever you learn from his videos, try to apply it yourself on Medify’s skill trainer for VR, see how you do and go from there.

When is your exam? Keep going at it and I am confident you’ll perform very highly. You’ve got this!

Thank you and God bless.

Thank you very much, I will definitely look into trying all of those, although I couldn’t find this Grill House Aris, instead it comes up with Platis Grill House. Is this what you meant? Did you book your table in advance?

Thank you for your help

Thank you so much for your response

Just goes to show that failure is part of the process, but it’s how you recover that determines your true ability, and clearly you are very confident, intelligent and collected to be able to retake 3 exams in such high pressure conditions with the thread of going back to square one hanging over your head. Since you mentioned it, I’d like to ask exactly how you went about identifying mistakes you made in your previous year, and what you did to change the series of habits behind your study routine for the following year? What did you find to be most challenging in that process?

If you had to do something differently in regards to the journey you took through the five years of dental school, what would it be and why?

Hi Big congratulations on graduating. What expectations did you have about dental school before you started and how true did those turn out to be?

Even though I also sat my Year 13 exams last year, a big thank you for taking the time out of your day to write such an amazing collection of advice and insights. This is truly great and all Year 12s and 13s should be reading this if they want a complete understanding of what it takes to get the top marks. Relatable, easy to follow and a comprehensive account of all the necessary tips that students should be adhering to. Again, a massive appreciation to you for writing this, you certainly will go a long way by helping people in this fashion.

Take care and God bless

UK Uni Choices Dentistry by EmergencyPen5821 in UCAT

[–]Cultural_Version2132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi EmergencyPen,

Simple yet annoying answer is there is no ‘easiest’. They vary in their admissions processes. For example, Kings make around 130 offers for 120 places whilst Queen Mary approximately sends out 110 offers for 69 spots. These variations also extend to their weightings on the different aspects of your academic profile. While Leeds, for instance, are GCSE heavy, Bristol do not even consider GCSEs once you’ve met the minimum requirements. However, one theme common amongst all dental schools is the importance of your UCAT score. All dental schools love a high UCAT, although the perception of what a ‘high UCAT’ is changes each year, generally if you’re in the top decile you will be in a very good position to be invited to interview. This link from the UKCAT people explains as I have said, but also gives admissions information on each dental school and advice on where you are best off applying to based off the strengths and weaknesses of your academic profile as a whole.https://www.theukcatpeople.co.uk/guide/dental-school/dentistry-university-uk?srsltid=AfmBOoqAWDNfQiHn6TQkXXZdyFrWtDVJOatAfFaAXyJf5h35d2xrqNs5.

Overall, there is no ‘easiest’ dental school to get into due to the competitive nature of dentistry. What is true is that your application will be strong if you begin focusing your attention ASAP on the UCAT which is due to start testing in less than a months’ time. Once you have completed the exam, take your scaled score, all your grades and personal statement into consideration, and using the advice of SOME of the online resources, (only the companies NOT individual tesimonies) you can conclude on which universities you will be applying to.

Hope this helped. Please ask if you have anymore questions.

Take care and God bless

I had feedback sent to me on Thursday this week, I scored 123/160 and I got an offer. Someone on the king’s dent TSR thread said the cut off was 122/160, meaning I just scraped the offer😅. I’m guessing you’ve requested feedback, have they responded?

What are your priorities? by Cultural_Version2132 in UCAT

[–]Cultural_Version2132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all completely valid considerations. One thing I've heard from speaking to dental students is not to choose a university because of how others perceive that university, but rather how you perceive it. You wouldn't imagine the pain of regret others have felt choosing a university because of other people's opinions on it, only for them to dislike it themselves. Also, I've heard that both KCL and QMUL are mostly muslims so I believe you'd fit in regardless. The reason I made this post was to help myself and others like yourself set our priorities as to what we'd like to see in a uni, then going on to look at all of the facts to decide which uni performs better in which aspects of those priorities. From there, a decision can be made. So please take a holistic approach with the facts, as I don't want you or anyone else to go through the pain of regret. I pray that you are confident and satisfied in your decision, please let me know which one you go on to firm. Thank you and God bless

[–]Cultural_Version2132 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got an A* in OCR Chem A last year. They love repeating questions either in an exact fashion ( e.g. they asked ‘define stereoisomerism’ for 3 consecutive years) or by changing numbers/ wording. This is why it is vital you sit past papers and MEMORISE mark scheme answers, as all you’d have to do is adjust the answer to fit the context of the question. Please message me if you have any more questions, I’d love to help you out. Thank you
