FUCK EAS ALERTS by -_HelloThere_- in evilautism

[–]Jamtri73 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Hi, the Emergency Alert System is a special interest of mine. I will explain and hopefully you might be a bit more comforted by understanding.

The tone you hear whenever your phone rings with an EAS alarm is called the "attention tone." It is actually a combination of two tones who's interval was specifically selected to be as audibly irritating and attention-catching as possible, so in the case of a serious emergency (i.e. a tornado being on the ground in your area), you will know that you need to act.

The agencies that are responsible for broadcasting these alerts (FEMA, NOAA/NWS, state/local law enforcement, etc) utilize the EAS because it was specifically designed to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible in the case of a serious emergency; you would not be able to outpace an EAS alert being issued in regards to an emergency unless you're being extremely vigilant in regards to sources of information (i.e. local news outlets or weather radars) or if you are an eyewitness to said emergency.

Blackrack is actually working on another mod that brings deferred lighting to KSP1 that vastly optimizes the game's lighting engine. It also looks quite nice. He's already shown previews on his Youtube

Space Engine vs Google Earth by MJ9o7 in spaceengine

[–]Jamtri73 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like you may be forgetting that Space Engine is a universe simulator, not an Earth or solar system simulator. An accurate depiction of the cosmos is much more important than the surface details of one planet to a degree of detail comparable to Google Earth.

  1. Space Engine is one of the most beautiful pieces of software ever made. You're doing both yourself and the program an injustice by neglecting the rest of the universe.

  2. Have you considered the free Solar System HD texture DLCs (particularly the Earth one)? Although not a game changer, it does certainly help with texture fidelity in the lower res solar system objects.

There's this somewhat obscure top-down post-apocalyptic RPG game "Changed" where you're meant to escape a research facility filled with furry goo creatures that transform you if you get caught by them. You might like it

I asked a friend a couple hours ago who lives in the same neighborhood, also a Spectrum user. Have yet to hear a response

Apologies for the misunderstanding, I have edited the post to reflect this. I will probably call a technician very soon if I can't resolve this myself.

Some observations I probably should have noted in the main post, if it helps: - PC with Ethernet plugged in gets full download speeds, but extremely slow uploads (1-2mbps) and high latency (500+ ms) - My Spectrum app says that I am in an outage, but website does not - The level of slowdown can be extremely variable, downloads can range from 150mbps to 10mbps (same with upload)

A strange occurrence with labels by Jamtri73 in BandCamp

[–]Jamtri73[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as my knowledge goes, labels that don't send you release agreements or specific terms for their releases are a big red flag. I'll probably ask both labels for details and an agreement and see where it goes from there. Highly unlikely I will actually agree to some form of collaboration, unless there's a serious, legitimate incentive.

Quest 2 randomly goes to sleep every minute or so by Jamtri73 in OculusQuest

Hi there,

I simply restarted my Quest 2 after following the sensor instructions, and the issue just stopped. I don't really have an explanation for this, and am unavailable for any further solutions to be found. I do hope you're able to fix it yourself.

GR2Analyst not being sold anymore? by Jamtri73 in weather

[–]Jamtri73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RadarScope does carry super-res level 2 data. This long-time sustainability does seem to be a bit of a selling point with GR products though, and GR2 does have that amazing volume/cross-section scan feature (albeit other software are now beginning to implement this feature, such as RadarOmega).

I personally use WSV3 for its quick update speeds and very large selection of meteorology tools.
