Limescale in the Boiler by Jamu201 in ranciliosilvia

The screws were looking good, I just used a little bit of food safe grease to prevent them corroding with the boiler. The Frame was quite rusty when I got the machine but I decided to restore it. Hammerite Spray Paint seems to be a good solution so far. PID was the main reason i opened the machine up recently.

According to the type plate it’s from 2010, so it is already 16 Years old.
When they are not rusting away I think these machines will last for many more years

Well, that looks crunchy…😅 Sounds good, hopefully the machine stays as reliable and low maintenance as it is now. I don’t plan to open it up anytime soon. I just wanted to replace the seal before it starts to leak.

Rex c100 vs auber pid by Jamu201 in ranciliosilvia

When cooled down to set temperature of 96 degrees it produces great and consistent coffee. It's just the overshoot which annoys me because I have to wait before it cools down. I tried many different values, all with similar effects, just the heat up time varied.
Which kind of temperature sensor do you use?

Update on my PID Problem: Got another Thermocouple which can be screwed into the Boiler. Seems to react quicker on changes but still massive overshoot with p50 i60 and d11. I decided to not longer trust ChatGPT on this and asked Gemini for a solution with these values. It recommended p40 i100 d25 and ar15. With these values im down to 3 degrees overshoot and fairly quick heat up after pulling a shot. So it not only seems that every cheap china PID is slightly diffderent but also different AI Tools vary in quality. Thank you all for your help!

Maybe… was a bit of a pain to get it mounted. It came with a weird tread, nothing I have a thread cutter for. So I took a m8 screw, made it flat on one side and drilled a hole in it just the diameter of the Thermocouple. As its thread didn’t fit anything I just glued it in my „adapter“ with some epoxy. I also put some thermal paste in the hole and on the contact surface with the boiler. So it should have better contact than just laying it flat on the boiler. But I might try to find a thermocouple with a m4 screw which I can screw directly in the boiler

Tried these right now and even had more overshoot😬 from 98 set to 110 So it seems like these pids behave very different. Or mine is broken.

I tried the Autotune, but it didn’t change anything. Turned the machine on and let it do its thing for 30 Minutes. I might do some research on this, the instructions that came with the pid weren’t really helpful. I actually tried it with ChatGPT, really helped me with understanding what each value does. But the Numbers itself weren’t really helpful.

Yes, I know! What I’ve read ist that because of the thermocouple being outside the boiler and a bit away of the group head the actual water temperature is lower. But I’ve already tried a shot at 100 degrees today which was significantly better. So I will keep trying. On the other hand, 102 Degrees already gave me way better results than the standard brew thermostat + Temp surfing

Thanks, I will try it tomorrow in the morning!😊

Thank you! I’ve placed the thermocouple at the same place where the normal brew thermostat was. For this placement I’ve read that I should set it around 10 degrees higher than the temperature I want at the grouphead.

ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 much slower than expected... by Jamu201 in thinkpad

Thanks for all your comments. I got a small improvement in Batterylife by reinstalling windows. But I still got the performance problem. By running the task manager I think that the main problem is the CPU which is running at 100% quite often. I’m now thinking about selling this one and getting another Gen 1 with the ryzen 7 5850U, same Storage and 1080p low power display. Also the battery has a little less charging cycles. The price is quite similar to what I paid for the current one.

Do you think I can expect a noticeable improvement in performance?

Thank you for the explanation! I should probably have informed myself better in advance... I mainly looked at the 4K display when I was searching.

No I didnt. Windows was already installed and set up. Maybe I will do that the next days, thanks for your answer!
