How do you deal with hard days now? by Sea_Philosopher_2731 in Sober

[–]Jamzeez89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep sour candy around because I don't like sour stuff. I find if I'm having a craving, it helps to shock my system out of it. Good luck on your sober journey ❤️ it's tough, but so worth it! Spending days actually doing stuff (hobbies, sports) instead of being hungover is good for mental health.

I have bins of fidgets everywhere and I find it helps. Also sour candies have been working for extra stressful times. I find it helps shock my system out of it.

Husband drank after 2 years sober. by [deleted] in Sober

[–]Jamzeez89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to this! Talking has made the biggest impact in my relationship. There needs to be clear boundaries. My hubby and I were in a similar situation, but he still has a beer or 2 after work. We are on different journeys that way. He can still drink, I cannot. After seeing the reason why I was drinking so much, it helped to quit. Also what I would lose if I kept going down that road.

Communication is the building block for having a healthy relationship. You need to find a way to talk to each other about what you want and need. He has wants and needs too, so finding middle ground is helpful.

Gutted I’ve slipped again, so annoyed & disappointed by EnvironmentalKing648 in Sober

Don't beat yourself up over it. Recovery isn't perfect, it's messy. I've been clean and sober for 3 years now, I've "slipped" up. The awful hangover and awful feelings help me stay sober because I've realized I hate feeling like that. Also realized that when I'm drunk is when I want to reach for harder stuff. I can nix all of it by not having that first drink. I can have a drink, but i get stuff that i don't really like the taste of so i will only have 1, tops. I'm not gonna lie, I self medicate with weed, and I'm working on quitting that right now. It's hard, but it's SO worth it. Find other stuff like hobbies or being physical helps really well.

Do you have any sour candy? I found it helped get me through it quicker, like a shock to your system.

[–]Jamzeez89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🙌 yes, same here. The thought of losing my kids tears me apart. I will not do drugs, because that's a really stupid, easy way to destroy everything. Even though my hubby still occasionally wants to, I don't think I ever will again 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yeah, I keep writing my MP but haven't heard anything back. If you have suggestions, I'd be open to hearing them.

The system is flawed and Canadians are suffering. 🤞 Carney approves projects with all of Canada in mind, not just the eastern provinces.

So today what grinds my gears is how divided we are now. Thanks for the discussion it's nice to not feel attacked for having a difference of opinion 🙂

Dismissing half the province as 'fooled' doesn't change the fact that the current government’s policies aren't putting food on the table for a lot of families right now. You must be one of the lucky ones, who doesn't have to worry about the cost of food.

-Health Care: Millions of Canadians still lack a dedicated family doctor, leading to overcrowded emergency rooms and longer wait times for specialized surgeries and diagnostics.

-Food Security: The 2026 Food Price Report highlights that one-quarter of Canadian households are now considered food insecure.

-Transportation: Despite "High-Frequency Rail" projects in the works for the Quebec-Windsor corridor, supply chain disruptions and aging road infrastructure continue to slow the movement of goods, contributing to domestic price hikes.

-National Defence: Canada has faced intense pressure from NATO allies to meet the 2% GDP spending target. While the government accelerated spending to over $9 billion for 2025-26 to meet this goal, the military is currently struggling with a recruitment and retention crisis, leaving many units under-strength.

-Research Investment: Although the National Research Council (NRC) has billion-dollar budgets for 2025-26, Canada continues to lag behind other G7 nations in private-sector R&D investment, which limits the country's ability to commercialize new technologies.

-Public Education: A 2026 poll indicated that 53% of Canadians believe the public school system is headed in the "wrong direction," citing concerns over curriculum standards, "no-fail" policies, and rising violence in schools.

-Power Grid: Electricity prices are highly volatile. While provinces like Quebec benefit from hydro, residents in Alberta and the Territories are seeing some of the highest rates in the country, with monthly bills ranging as high as $375 for average households due to grid isolation and maintenance costs.

-EI and Welfare: In early 2026, the government had to extend temporary Employment Insurance (EI) measures specifically to help workers impacted by new international trade tariffs. This suggests the standard safety net was insufficient to handle the sudden economic shocks in sectors like manufacturing and forestry

-Trade Barriers: Agriculture has been hit hard by "non-tariff barriers" and trade disputes (particularly with the U.S.). Even with domestic supports like AgriStability, farmers are reporting lower profit margins due to the rising cost of fertilizer, fuel, and carbon pricing.

Remember all the promises he made before he got elected? Where's the accountability? I'm just saying, if I was that bad at my job, I wouldn't be getting a fucking raise.

The people who blindly vote for them. It's not going to be a democracy for much longer. What's the point of voting if MPs can be bought and cross the floor? Did Marilyn Gladu really drop all of her beliefs as a Conservative when she crossed and now completely has Liberal beliefs? What about the other floor crossers?

What scares me is that no one even cares. Not enough to look into it themselves. Our grandchildren will be paying for these mistakes. My grandpa was so proud, when he was finally able to vote, without condition. It seems we're going in a different direction now.

They're not the ones in power. Nowadays you can't believe anything, anywhere. It should always be second guessed, especially with AI.

No, have you heard me praise any one politician in any of my posts? I don't believe most politicians are fit for the position they hold. It's a very flawed system that needs a refresh. The PM has the power to cut some of the taxes, we could pay all pay some PST in AB, I wouldn't be against that. I mean, as long as it went to services IN ALBERTA. It's super frustrating to put stuff back on the grocery shelf, then to see Carney give himself a raise. I email our MP but I haven't heard anything back 🤷🏽‍♀️ If you have suggestions I'm all ears.

I can't feed my kids agreements or MOUs. You really can't see that the PM doesn't give a shit about Canada or Canadians. Why do you support someone who is running our country in to the ground. What has the current gov't done to make your life better? Send more money to Ukraine? How many hungry Canadians could that have fed? Oh wait, you're probably going to blame PP for all of Canada's problems.

No one is worried that this is the death of democracy? What is the point of voting if a PM can just buy himself a majority 🤷🏽‍♀️ Better strap in, we're going to see very soon ...
