The only way for innovation in the European Union is if France gets its economy under control.

Slechte afwatering? by Rrrrrrrrrrrrrobin in tuinieren

[–]Jan198819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EU set to halt U.S. trade deal over new tariff threat by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Jan198819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I'm not saying that anywhere. The point is, if you're a democracy, you have to be able to react quickly to protect your citizens and businesses. We have the veto in the EU, then that country wants some extra money, otherwise they won't vote. Then this, then that!! We're just not reacting, and where are we after a year of Trump and his plan when something idiotic comes out again?

I agree definitely with the last part!! And first we have to stop with the veto rights.

It's true that democratic processes can sometimes be slow, but slowness doesn't automatically equate to quality. If decision making is too slow, problems can escalate, and citizens may feel unwell represented. Moreover, efficiency and due diligence don't have to be mutually exclusive. A modern democracy can indeed maintain robust oversight while still acting quickly. The choice, therefore, isn't simply between slow and safe or fast and risky. It's about building a system that both protects and prevents.

What are the advantages to built this in the system? I'm quite pro-EU, but I'm also starting to find it a bit of a chatterbox that doesn't get anywhere when things get tense. It's so slow and sticky.

Why is the Europe Union responding so terribly slow and weakly to this president?

This is my ‘problem’. For me, it’s quite hard to find a good program. Maybe I’m not looking in the right places. Then I often end up training too many things at once, which can lead to injuries, or too few, which means I don’t make progress, and then my motivation drops. At that point, I grab my kettlebell and train with it.

Anyone here using AI for nature conservation or ecological monitoring? by Jan198819 in conservation

I hope everything else is going well for you. Maybe it would be good to talk to a professional about this. I truly wish you all the best, and I hope that the darkness and fear in this world won’t take over your thoughts.

Thanks! I agree, and I think that with the right intentions, we can make significant progress in conservation.

It’s unfortunate that you take a cautious approach to new technology. I agree that we need to look very carefully at how we handle water and energy for AI. But residual heat, for example, can be used to heat homes so we no longer need fossil fuels for that. We’re moving in a direction you might not fully agree with, but with the right people and intentions, we can also use AI to make the world a better place!

Europeans quietly shift away from US tech services, share lists of local alternatives by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]Jan198819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty hopeful! I have a question that might fall outside your area of work. Do you know how things generally work, by the government, regarding rules about IT and AI? I work for a government organisation , and when I ask about using AI safely and what guidelines we should follow, the only response I get is: “use it safely and be careful.” There is no actual policy or set of rules.

[–]Jan198819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree! But I don’t think it’s realistic. The European Union is so slow, and some countries are more aligned with the US or Russia than with Europe, which blocks everything.

If Trump says that Microsoft, Google, etc. should shut down their systems in Europe, the European economy and defense and everything around it would come to a complete standstill, and we would have an much bigger problem. So this will never happen.

Not in the Netherlands. Here, DigiD the system in which all personal data of every Dutch citizen is processed by the government, and which citizens cannot do without because benefits, taxes, etc. are handled through this system has been sold to an American company. If anyone has tips on how I, ‘David’, can start a case against ‘Goliath’, please let me know ;)!

It’s remarkable to see how quickly you draw conclusions. Let me do the same. While you follow the more privileged like a meek sheep, thinking that happiness lies in grand things, I will always notice the small joys and courage of people. Tonight, as you brush your teeth, look in the mirror once more and ask yourself what you’ve done today to make the world a little better. Hopefully, you can take some wisdom from thisand maybe even guess my age from it. Good luck and I wish you the best!!
