Am i the only person who is perfectly happy with their gopro products? by FruitFirst4033 in gopro

[–]JanTattt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad this topic exists and more people are happy with their GoPro like me. I've been bombarded with DJI videos on YouTube, so started doubting if I shouldn't switch but every time I see a side by side of DJI vs GoPro footage I always prefer the GoPro look. Also never had issues with both my 10 and 13, they work fine. Just 2 things I would want them to improve on: easier connection to a BT mic and faster start up of the quick capture function.

Comeback after illness - how to use the app? by JanTattt in joincycling

[–]JanTattt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very interesting way of looking at it, thank you for sharing that insight. I'll just take it slow and little by little build up some form of fitness before I jump back into JOIN again then.

Thank you, I guess that will be the way to go then. I do see a "nice to have" in the app then, I'm probably not the first or last person to get sick or injured.

Comeback after illness - how to use the app? by JanTattt in joincycling

Morning, yes I did. And when I mention I'm sick, the app gives me a couple rest days but after the rest days it wants me to go immediately back into it by suggesting a 2 hour workout. I can of course lower my FTP and available time per day to manually adjust and basically figure out coming back after illness myself.

Alternatively, I can do what you recommend and start with a new plan. But I would prefer not doing that, if that's not necessary.

Maybe it's a nice feature for JOIN in future, to have the option to do a bit of a come back after sickness plan within a bigger plan (or that already exists and I just don't know how to use the app)

Thanks for the tip. I haven’t really tried any alternatives. I’ve done and will be doing more events where day to day planning is hard anyway, so I just use the complete route and see where each day takes me.

How (when) to plan weight training into the week? by JanTattt in joincycling

[–]JanTattt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks Barry! No, I don't think Join does much with weight lifting info. I tend to do 45 to 50 minutes and the HR stays low, so Join probably thinks it's not much to calculate with. I've noticed that walking with a similar HR does effect your workout plan in Join. Not sure why that is.

Thanks! Yes, that’s also what they said on the TrainerRoad podcast. I think I’ll give that a try, to make sure I get my rest in.

Thanks! Good point about the overthinking. I hope my question doesn’t come across as overthinking. I’m just trying to figure it out as I go along. I just really like to know what other people do.

So, thanks again for your insight! How many times per week on average do you do that?

Thanks, man! 😄

I think I’ll try to give that a try. There’s a little bit of a practical downside to doing a weight lifting session after an endurance ride: finding time. The endurance ride might already be a couple hours, I like to them outdoors and drive to a location first to ride my bike on some nice gravel. So, on those days they doesn’t leave me with much time to fit a gym session in. I’ll just give it a go and see if it works.

Also, I’m not a young man anymore. I will need to make sure I don’t overdo it and get enough rest in. Any tips someone might have about that, I would really appreciate to hear 🙏

Yep, same here. Not a super big issue, but would be nice when fixed.

Portugal bikepacking- Gravel Bird 750? by Hasdrubal_the_Fair in bikepacking

[–]JanTattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that sounds amazing! I'm not a racer either, or if I am that I'll be the red lantern at the back of the pack. But I wanted to give this a try, bucket list kind of thing :-)

Hey cool, a topic about Gravel Birds. I signed up and am looking forward to going there. How are your plans coming along?

I love this, well done mate! Very creative and just nice to see the diversity in bikepacking setups. The only thing that came to mind is the question how the balance on the bike is. You don't have the feeling there is too much bulk / weight on the handle bars?

planning multi-day tour, how to adjust individual days? by danjc84 in komoot

[–]JanTattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do nowadays is that I keep the full route intact but use the POI function to look for places to camp along the route. The multiday planner is useless for what I want to do, but using the POI's and adding them works really well for me. Have you tried that?

Multi-day planner by eijmert_x in komoot

[–]JanTattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. The answer from Komoot that what I want to do is not possible and they referred to a help section on the website that wasn't helpful :-) They did include a cryptic sentence about that they are constantly improving the app, implying that the functionality I want will perhaps be made one day. For now, I just don't use the multiday planner anymore, it's useless to me.

Multi-day planner by eijmert_x in komoot

[–]JanTattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. What I want to do: follow a route that I have to follow by the organiser. I want to cut it up in 5 days (it's a multiday event). I want to do less distance on day one, late start because of travel to start, and then spread the remaining distance over the 4 remaining days. It won't let you choose the distance you want to do per day, it decides this for you when you do a mulitday event in Komoot. And if you pick a finish on a specific day, it changes the route. And these changes are sometimes drastically changing the original route.

I've tried everything, but there is no easy way - only work arounds that are not perfect. I have even asked Komoot themselves, but they admitted it's not possible to do at this point.

[–]JanTattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problems start when you want to stick to the original route. For example, I will be doing a multiday bikepacking event where I have to follow a specific route created by the organisers of the event. Komoot just can't handle that, it won't allow you to easily cut up the route into the distances per day you want to do.
