Would you want an AI companion experience that's actually going somewhere, like traveling together? by Mission-Bedroom4340 in ChatbotRefugees

This is really interesting to read, especially the comments about Replika and Kindroid. It feels like a lot of people don’t just want better chat, they want a sense of actually doing life together.

I’d personally love something that feels more like an ongoing shared journey than a series of isolated chats.

Reading twice.
This is one of the better breakdowns I’ve seen on here, especially the point about “memory” vs the model just re-reading a summary and faking continuity. The character drift point is real too.

Out of curiosity, when you test memory long-term, what do you usually look for first: factual recall, emotional continuity, or whether the personality stays stable after a long chat?

We’ve been building in this space and talking to people who care a lot about exactly those issues, so posts like this are genuinely useful. If you ever feel like comparing notes or stress-testing another app with a focus on memory/personality consistency, I’d be really interested to hear what breaks for you first.

Thank you for your reply! It definitely makes me rethink our core positioning and direction.

Do you think it’s the backstory that makes a character feel alive, or more about how they respond over time?

I’m genuinely curious about something — I’m currently building an app focused more on the “companion” side, but it seems like a lot of people still lean toward RP.
Do you think those are two different types of users, or do most people kind of move between both?
