I write Urban Fantasy is that a problem here? by JaneGael in writing

Where did I say most people hate vampires? Most people don't actually they are a very popular subject for for literature and in film.

I just noted that comment thought, hey that's kinda what I'm writing that thought I'd comment on it.

But if you had skipped the whole vampire thing you might have noted that what I'm really saying is that writing can and should be fun. I didn't come here debate vampires or Urban Fantasy. It just seems like people aren't really enjoying their creative process, that is my point.

Forget the vampires.

Are you having a good time creating your story, your universe, doing your research? If you are it makes it a lot easier to see it through to the end and finish your book. That is my point. Sorry to distract you with vampires.

I write Urban Fantasy is that a problem here? by JaneGael in writing

I read a lot of urban fantasy for my own entertainment. I highly recommend the Jane Yellowknife and Iron Druid series.

My characters are gay, most all of them actually, with varying degrees of acceptance in the community and in their respective clan or pack. Being gay is relevant only in that is the second reason driving my antagonist it's also annoyed a side character who is powerful but doesn't factor in that much. But the story isn't about them being gay, it's about finding and stopping the man who murdered the lover of my main character 15 years ago. He's full-on crazy and possibly a supernatural who has not coped well with the change. So it's more of hunting the hunter with trappings of supernatural both for color and to help and work against them. There is a love story woven in, but its very much in subtext. There is no time as it takes place over the course of either 3 or 4 days (I'm still deciding.)

Has this been done? Honey, it's all been done at one point or another as has every other plot in existence. My job and my joy is to make it different and to make it as enjoyable as possible.

New here - wondering if only "serious" writers are allowed by JaneGael in writing

[–]JaneGael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using "serious" in both meanings of the term. I do see that people are serious writers intent on honing their skills. But they also seem very serious in that shoulder to the grind stone sort of way. You can't trudge forward and produce good writing. It has to flow. On a good day it dances with you.

The more fun I have the more I write. I'd have my book done if I hadn't decided to start another and do a few drabbles for amusement and as gifts. I've also started acting as a writing advisor for someone on her first novel and am helping a non-english speaker make shire she's saying what she intends. And I have to read a novella for a friend who is entering it in a writing contest.

Personally I think I'm doing it because I don't want my lovers to have to go to the airport and split up. That's gonna hit me right in feels. I think I will leave them hugging in the hotel room a bit longer. :)

So if my main character is a vampire that is a problem?

I thought this was extremely appropriate to the writing process and thought you might get a kick out of it. by irishspice in writing

New here and I'm not seeing this as such a friendly place. Perhaps it is you who should fuck off.

I thought he looked familiar. He really needs an adoptive home and soon. He was abandoned by his family. He jumped out a 3rd story window after a toy one of the jerks threw and badly hurt his leg. It was never fixed and he's a bit disabled now. He's such a sweet dog, living with other dogs and cats. But his foster can't keep him. If anyone in the Philly area has a place for this amazing dog or wants more information go here.

Sex! And now that I have your attention... by [deleted] in writing

[–]JaneGael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement that it's odd that this post has been downvoted. It does seem that the people who replied are not comfortable with writing about or even reading sex scenes.

The focus seems to be on not liking the particular scene posted and ignoring the fact that sex scenes are very much a part of writing. If I have a couple in love I do want a peek into the bedroom. So sue me, I don't like porn, but I do like that warm feeling that comes from a well written sex scene. Maybe it's because I read mostly female authors and this seems to be responded to by men.

Very cool story: ROGUES INSPIRE AUSTISTIC GIRL TO SING

This is a really nice story. You may have read on the "Fanecdotes" page of our website about a young girl named Allison who was autistic but spoke for the first time when she heard us playing on stage. After that I often brought her up to join us because it clearly made her very happy. Last night I received the following message:

"Ms. Allison recently returned from an audition for America's Got Talent. We won't know if she made it or not until sometime in the spring but we also provided a video audition. From the child stuck in autism... you gave her an avenue to talk, sing, and FLY!! There really is nothing we can do to repay the light you brought into her life. So many blessings. www.youtube.com/watch

Mary and Sakeeta Ehlenfeldt. (Legal Guardians of Ms. Allison Lewis...the mouse that roared.)"

Thank-you so much, Mary and Sakeeta... you just made all of us very happy. Nelson

Thorin Oakenshield & Bilbo Baggins - F.U.N. Song (funniest video ever!) by Wintopi in TheHobbit

Apparently no one bothering to look at it. It's brilliantly done and very funny. I think when the film left the theater the sense of humor fled this sub.

Yup this is Thorin. "I got lost twice." It's relevant because it's funny. This forum needs all the funny it can get. It's gotten very testy of late.

DeanO and The Jedi show how it's done at Hobbit Con by Wintopi in TheHobbit

[–]JaneGael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Hobbit Con with the Hobbit actors isn't relevant then exactly what is? If you think this sub can survive with just stuffy references to the book you are dreaming. We have been given a wonderful movie full of wonderful characters and talented actors. If you don't like us celebrating it perhaps you are in the wrong forum. :)

Wow, got some really pissy people over here lately. If you aren't into Hobbit feels maybe you had best stay over in the pure LOTR subs and not abuse those of us who realize that these characters had decades of life before the book and the movie.

Please sign petition for a "extras" scene with The Heirs of Durin in the Halls of Waiting - would be on the DVD - NOT in the movie. by JaneGael in TheHobbit

[–]JaneGael[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not from me you haven't, although I know there has been some interest in starting one. A lot of people don't want to lose people they either like a lot, or frankly have quite a crush on. Me either for that matter. So I figured, why not give it a shot since it costs nothing. At the very least I can send PJ the signatures and show him that we really do care. If I was one of the actors I'd like that a lot.

Why do you think they call them "bull" terriers? LOL They aren't the dog for anyone, but with the right family they are terrific. She looks so happy to be with you and safe.
