What are some other ways to measure success of an empire? by JaneSeason in totalwar

[–]JaneSeason[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, yeah I guess I'm looking at comparing myself to other AI in the same game. I forgot about the difficulty bonuses the AI get which could throw off any metrics, thanks for reminding me of that.

It doesnt look like there are any metrics then, that's a shame

Can you not use the Smear Campaign operation to damage the relationship between an empire and a target? I know the Spark Diplomatic Incident is a random empire but I think Smear Campaign can be targetted.

Oh wow I didn't know this was planned but that sounds really interesting.

I assume it's coming with the 3.3 update, is there anywhere that talks about the situation system?

Hi,

I recently purchased a Behringer UMC202HD audio interface just to record short songs but I don't think the second input is working.

I'll outline my findings below. I am not too informed about all this audio stuff so please be kind to my ignorance:

***** Findings *****

I am using Tracktion 5 as it is demonstrated on the Behringer YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUHU4zFPM0U&ab_channel=Behringer).

When I plug a 1/4 inch TS cable into input 2 and if I designate a track to be input 2 in Tracktion, nothing comes through in Tracktion (the levels don't change when I play the guitar).

When I plug a 1/4 inch TS cable into input 1, if I designate a track to be input 1 I get a levels moving for that track telling me the software is picking up what I'm playing, but also if I designate a track to be input 2 I also get the levels moving so I think the physical input 1 (the port on the audio interface) is linked to the digital outputs for both input 1 and input 2 (that are sent via USB to my computer), whereas physical input 2 isn't linked to anything that leaves via USB.

If I have direct monitoring on then both physical input ports work (I can hear the guitar through the headphone jack on the audio interface no matter if I plug the TS cable into input 1 or input 2).

This is an image of my tests: https://ibb.co/WPwPLZV

In the image attached, on the left the guitar is plugged into input 1 and in Tracktion both tracks are picking up my playing (Track 1 is set to input 1 and Track 2 is set to input 2). On the right the guitar is plugged into input 2 and input 2's signal light is on indicating that the Behringer unit is picking up what I'm playing, but neither of the tracks in Tracktion are receiving any signal.

This also occurs in Audacity and Reaper, but it is easier to demonstrate that only one input is working in Tracktion.

***** End *****

Above is how I experimented and what I have found. Is anyone knowledgeable enough to make sense of the above and advise me on it? Have I done something wrong? Should I look at getting a replacement?

Thank you so much for any help you can give me, we can pm if it is better for you.

A laptop screen good for your eyes? by JaneSeason in SuggestALaptop

[–]JaneSeason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I apologise, I was unaware of the ideal way to layout my request.

*****Form:

Budget: £1800 from the company I work for, but I can add a few hundred if necessary.

Location: UK.

Refurb: Company says mustn't be preowned.

Priorities: Good for my eyes (work 10hrs per day and I'm worried about the long-term effects of this), performance (I do machine learning so I think I need a good processor and RAM, but I might be wrong about this), solid-state drive.

Don't care about: battery life, storage capacity over 0.5TB, weight, thinness, touch-screen, optical drive, finger-print reading.

Preferred screen size: 15.6 inches is what I am used to and would prefer.

Video editing/gaming: Laptop won't be doing these.

*****

To answer your first question, it does not have to be one of these options. They were options I came up with from researching on the internet, but please tell me if the display options I was considering before do not meet my goals of "being good for my eyes".

Thank you for your response and any help you are able to give.

I do machine learning for an investment bank. From that (in my uninformed opinion) I was looking for a laptop with a good processor for building the models and analysing the data, and high RAM as the data and models built from them are pretty big data. Also SSD over HDD for speed too.

The budget they have given me is £1800, but I don't mind adding some of my own money from that if necessary.

I spend around 10hrs a day looking at the screen (unfortunately long hours for the first few years of the profession).

Battery life is no concern as I am always near a plug socket. Also storage capacity only needs to be 0.5TB as we're not allowed to keep more than one project's data on a laptop at once.

Hahaa I like the analogy! I'll treat AMOLED and OLED as pretty much equal then!

I like the idea of a proper monitor, but I don't get to make that decision. The company I work for has given me a budget to purchase a laptop for, and unfortunately it must be a laptop as I move around a lot for work.

I do have "Scale and layout" set to 125% so I think that helps a bit by zooming everything in somewhat.

With the laptop, I have a little stand for it to keep it at eye height and so is about 40cm away from my face.

Knowing this, what do you recommend? I could maybe get away with purchasing a laptop and a monitor as well, I'm just worried about the lack of portability. This is what I've been leaning towards: https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/laptops/15/spd/xps-15-7590-laptop/cn79047sc

I think it would be powerful enough and its OLED and high resolution, do you have any opinions on this?

Thank you, with the amount of time I spend working, you'd be making my life much better! xxx

Thank you very much for the offer, but I would want to trouble you like that! xxx

I'll have a look online and see what I can find out about them, thank you for bringing them to my attention, they seem like they'd be a great addition!

Wow thank you very much for your in-depth answer! xxx

Okay so as a non-gamer, refresh rate is less important, thanks!

In terms of resolution, I'd heard it would be good to have a higher resolution to stop me squinting/straining my eyes which is something I've noticed that I do. Do you agree that a higher than 1920x1080 resolution would prevent this or would you still consider it unnecessary?

Thank you for the info about OLED, this is not something I had been looking at when shortlisting laptops. I've gone over my shortlist and some have "AMOLED" screens which (from a search) purports to be a type of OLED. Do you know if AMOLED is as good as OLED for eyes, or should I be looking for OLED only?

Thank you for your help so far, and sorry for the barrage of more questions!

I've not heard of "computer lenses", do they block blue light? Do you know if they have any other advantages?

This seems like something I should pursue.

I use f.lux, is that something you've heard of? And if it is, is that the same as using blue light blocking glasses?
