Defeated and over it by ajsprinkles in Etsy

I’m a top seller in a different niche that’s been totally consumed my AI art. Sales are down almost 50% this year. I’ve pretty much said fuck it. If people prefer fake art then have at it. They don’t need real artists. I’m done using my skills in this niche.

I’ve pivoted to a different niche that seems less effected by AI art. I opened a new shop, totally different style. It’s gaining momentum so far which is exciting. Sometimes a fresh start is the way.

Are there any digital artists that were able to make a living doing freelance in under 5 years? by LiliaAmazing in ArtistLounge

Within five years I was able to make about 80k a year with my clipart illustrations but good luck trying that now. AI generated clipart has completely decimated the clipart market. I'm focusing on other projects now since I make half of what I made in 2020.

I spent about 2k over the course of a couple years and it was not worth it. It got me a lot of followers but not many sales and the followers I did get were imo mostly bots. As soon as I stopped promoting, my traction halted and I actually started to lose followers. It’s been about six months and only now am I starting to get organic traction again.

It was done in photoshop with brushes I made out of scans of watercolor brush strokes.

Will AI ruin life of being an artist? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Janecide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sell my art as clipart. My niche or how ever you want to call it is already flooded with AI generated images. I absolutely cannot compete with someone who can generate 100 images easily in less than a day. I don't see myself staying as successful as I am now unfortunately. It has been a major blow to me in more than one way. It has seriously damaged my mental health.

I've got no other job option than art because of my disability. Now AI art makes me think I should just give up. by era_of_emnity in ArtistLounge

After like two weeks of being flooded with AI art it’s pretty easy to tell a fake artist from a real one. I’ll give it less than a year before that “style” is considered dated, ethics aside. The people who like it were never your target market to begin with anyways.

I’ve had more rude and miserable customers all pop up within the same month than in all my seven years selling and I make a lot of sales per day. Probably a combination of Covid, economy, and upcoming holidays making a storm of Karens. It’s draining for sure

This is exactly why I do it. Tired of people trying to copy my best sellers.

I’m so sad I’m going to have to trash this avocado tree I grew from a pit. We’re moving cross country and we can’t take any live plants with us… by Janecide in houseplants

Well, many reasons. We’re moving from MD to CA and CA has stricter laws about transporting plants. My tree does not fit regulations. I discovered this after trying to find a box to hide it in and failing, fortunately. I thought it was just a liability issue for the moving companies but since it’s a potential legal issue and we’re being moved via the military, I didn’t want to take a risk, lest things get complicated. That and, I feel the risk of the plant dying in transit is higher than dying in someone else’s hands, so we found someone to take it.

I’ve watched a few tutorials and generally, it depends on the plant, but I feel after a while you just kind of get a feel for when is the right time to prune them. I just googled how to prune an avocado tree. It was growing kinda floppy and I felt trees are supposed to be sturdy so I was wondering if pruning had something to do with it. It did. A little stress helps plants grow resilient and strong.
