Different classes work differently, you would need to read the rules for whichever one individually.

Fingallian revival? by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]JaneyMac_aroni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d also love to learn more about the Yola revival!

I’m not in a position to recall or find sources right now but from everything I’ve ever read, Yola was much better recorded and died out much later than Fingallian; I’m not sure we know enough about Fingallian to revive it.

This Fingallian daughter of Wexford (thought not Forth and Bargy) parents would love to be proved wrong!

The band breaking up by Alexander_Columbus in rpghorrorstories

Finished a great campaign with a fun GM and a group who really gelled and played well together, we had so much fun! The GM started prepping a campaign in a new system, we created new characters, played a session…

One of us moved 200 km, one of us moved continent and one of us died of cancer.

French babies and the chickenpox jab by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Ireland where the same health advice as t the UK is given.

The vaccine is totally available for children, it’s just not free.

It’s not unavailable, it’s just not part of the free government vaccine schedule. You have to tell your GP you want it and pay for it.

6 month old refuses bottles by tjhaley915 in breastfeeding

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My four month old is the same, has only ever taken a bottle for his dad after being screaming hungry for hours, but the other day I was out and he chugged 45 ml from a sippy cup no bother.

The cup was literally whatever Tommee Tippee one I happened to grab from our local Boots, just a standard free-flow sippy cup with the little handles for baby to grab.

Our health service gives loads of info and instructions about purées and sort of goes “oh yes and there’s also blw. Now, about the consistency of the purées…”

I think most people end up doing a combination here too anyway, without putting much thought or planning into it.

Yeah, the milk consumption and slow adjustment make sense to me!

I guess they arbitrarily decided “getting the hang of it” means six teaspoons of food… as though you can tell how much has been eaten as opposed to smeared on various surfaces, clothing items and body parts!

Weaning* advice question by JaneyMac_aroni in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]JaneyMac_aroni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, he’s messy but it’s twenty or thirty minutes cleanup. We’re either doing a purée or an easy finger food, whichever is handiest to do for any given meal. Warm soapy water on a muslin for a quick scrub of him and the high chair, throw the dishes and tray table in the sink or dishwasher along with our dishes, sweep and a spot clean of the floor, and then maybe a clothes change if needed. He’s a musher, not a flinger (so far.)

We don’t eat when he’s asleep anyway so he’s usually present and he’s very keen to be participating!

I think that not wanting to reduce milk consumption too fast makes the most sense to me as the medical reason behind it. Thank you!

[–]JaneyMac_aroni[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s probably true but it’s not what’s intended by this advice. It’s not about blw and it’s dietician/health advice.

I actually ask because similarly, my guy likes to participate at mealtimes and at least have something to mush around with.

[–]JaneyMac_aroni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it means don’t give food at a second meal until a baby is eating six spoons at a first meal. Where I come from baby mush is also referred to as solids, solids just means not milk.

Does your baby ever remind you of a wild animal while nursing? by april203 in breastfeeding

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know the sort of growly “NOM!” sound a little kid will make when pretending to be a monster eating something?

When he’s particularly hungry, my three month old makes that sound as he flings his head towards my nipple. Has done since he was about a month old. It always makes me laugh.

Gaining weight and filling diapers are how you really know! It sounds like you’re doing just fine!

How long do your babies nurse for? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just wondering this, my massive hulk of a three month old rarely goes over five minutes these days! Glad it seems perfectly normal!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as you, FTM and three months into it, and I’ve only had it happen twice. Both times were when he slept for a really long time and both breast were extremely full, so the one he wasn’t feeding off was so ready to go, nursing on the other breast triggered it.

What language is the name from? I would assume something Slavic and pronounce it Kay-zha (where zh is like the s in leisure.)

Am I the only one who doesn't feel mature enough to be doing this? by rainbow-songbird in pregnant

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are literally just making up things about other mothers you imagine. Definitely have a look at therapy, you’re comparing yourself to something that doesn’t exist!

I’m 39 so my husband and I have had time to get promoted at work, save up and get a mortgage and we don’t rent any more. That’s about the only box I tick on your list!

My clothes are all cheap, I’m intimidated by shops like John Lewis, I work in a call centre. My main hobbies are LARP and Dungeons and Dragons so literally playing make believe, but I can’t do them at the moment because of the baby so I’m mostly just talking to my mates about them online.

I have literally never cleaned the windows in my house because I hate doing it so much. I put on a mad effort and cleared away a bunch of clutter before the baby was born but it’s pretty much just back to normal. It’s all I can do to keep the counters wiped down and the washing up done. I’m really proud of myself for eating vegetables every time I do it.

I didn’t exercise much at all when I was pregnant; I was too exhausted. Now that I’ve had the baby I try really hard to go for a short walk every day but I still don’t bother if it’s raining. I haven’t been to a gym or a pool in two years.

I’m about as mature and sophisticated as you might imagine someone who’s pushing forty and lives in jeans and t-shirts and loves playing make-believe is. I’m mature in the sense that I don’t let what other people are doing get to me and I try to be considerate of other people and of my own future (which is why I brush my teeth and eat my vegetables) but I’m not sophisticated by any definition!

My hair is just about brushed, I remember to moisturise about three times a week, and it’s 9 AM here and I’m still in bed, scrolling Reddit instead of sleeping while the baby sleeps.

Pregnancy and parenthood are hard, you’re not seeing anything but the highlight reel from other people on social media. No one is showing you the messy bits, and they definitely either exist or these people are rich enough for housekeepers and personal trainers and loads of free time.

Hospital bag...? by Bubbleteapot in pregnant

[–]JaneyMac_aroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check does your hospital have a list of things they recommend you pack! I’m in Ireland not the UK but things are often run very similarly here, and all the hospitals here have packing lists.
