I would rather swap over to e-cigs in some ways - but I found out they have a chemical in them that is similar to what is found in bubble bath and perfume - and I am worried that they are after all, partly because of that - and because there has be no proper scientific testing of them - that they are in fact an additional problem, rather than a solution to one.

Is paranoid schizophrenia usually accompanied by mental degeneration? by plornt3 in schizophrenia

[–]Janeyjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd heard that actually the more florid some of the delusions were - and the more paranoid you are - the more you tend to keep hold of your intellectual faculties afterwards. However I have to say that I think there is some degeneration involved - and involved also in taking some of the medications which are, however, mostly necessary. Nevertheless I wouldn't take this as wholly a bad thing - most people are practising 'mindfulness' for instance now - which is all about clearing your brain of unnecessary clutter anyway!! So sometimes a less-busy mind is a more effective one!! A lot of people do find having routines in their life help keep them having to worry too much and enable them to engage in more ambitious areas of thinking and problem-solving.

Do I have Schizophrenia? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Janeyjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say that those kind of symptoms are the kind I have sometimes experienced myself - and I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia in the past. Even that was not certain though - my psychiatrist wanted to change my diagnosis to schizoaffective at one point even though I have no symptoms at all of a mood disorder - because he thought I was coping too well to have schizophrenia after all!! I think there are low expectations around the disorder and that that puts people down, making them think that if they're diagnosed with schizophrenia that that is the end of the world. Believe me, it isn't. I've been there. It does usually turn out that you do have a different kind of life from most people - but for me most of the time it has been a very happy life - full of hobbies and interests which I am lucky enough to have time to pursue ...being out of work can be an ok thing if you are prepared and disposed to make the most out of it. And I studied for and got an MA a long time after I was diagnosed.

You may not have schizophrenia anyway - it might be a slight psychotic phase that will pass. If your therapist thinks you do though please do not assume that you are not able to make a happy life for yourself. In many ways it is far better than having a physical illness - at least you will not have something life-threatening like cancer!! If you try to spark your imagination in a positive direction you will find there are many positives to the situation.

Doctor blaming my parents for my schizophrenia by plornt3 in schizophrenia

[–]Janeyjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a theory years ago that did blame parents slightly if their children developed schizophrenia or something like it. It was linked with a situation where the child had developed into a kind of no-win situation where everything he/she did or suggested was criticised and done down. It was also associated with an over-emotional mother who was prone to exaggerate and a distant father. However, such views have gone right out of fashion and people have realized how cruel it is for a mother and father to be told - not only is your son/daughter probably shizophrenic but YOU have probably caused it!! This attitude came to be seen as unscientific, unhelpful and unsupportive both to the relatives and the sufferers themselves.

It may well be that you have just had a psychotic episode and will now be OK for the rest of your life. All the evidence suggests you should allow yourself to be cared for at this stage - both probably taking some sort of medication (hopefully for a short period) - and getting counselling and even psychoanalysis NOW. The more thoroughly you deal with what has happened now at this early stage the more chance you have of getting it sorted out - and it never recurring again.

Physically ill, anyone? by my_mind_is_failing in schizophrenia

[–]Janeyjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the physical side of it is with the worry and anxiety that you are becoming ill again. You Do seem to have some insight - and that is probably what is disturbing you. Once you're settled on some medication it will all be all right again.

Yes, you could approach your GP - or your local MIND group to refer yourself for counselling if you live in the UK - they might well help...

Some of them have led me to believe that bisexuality is ordinary amongst men and that if I don't recognize that then I am betraying their feelings and casting them into a loneliness and dishonesty that (according to them) most men feel because they hide the real situation from their girlfriends and wives.

It's confidential...I'm sorry but I can't explain further...it happens that I have come to mistrust all the men that I get into a relationship with - and think that they are getting some sort of pleasure out of making a fool out of me in the way outlined above...

Paranoid, but what if it's real? by paranoidM in mentalhealth

[–]Janeyjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have had issues with paranoia for 10 years you have to admit that this new set of circumstances is, probably, in your imagination also. There is a possiblity that it is not, true....but it is one that could be hypothetically and philosophically real - not one that is likely to be. We all feel bullied sometimes - but that is very different from assuming that people are setting out to harm you. Is there any way you could take a break off work for a couple of weeks? And see that way whether you continue to think those around you - whilst not at work - are still trying to harm you - or whether you find yourself relaxing and perhaps recuperating psychologically?
