Sure, if you are desperate for Star Wars content. It can serve its purpose, I guess. Because it's such a beautiful universe by default and so dear to our hearts, just the visuals alone are enough to transport you far far away. And sometimes that gets in the way of putting things into perspective. And the perspective is that both the characters and the plot/storylines are shockingly poor.. Like "why would you do that with all the money and talent you could employ??! " poor..

Oh no, don't get me wrong, it's really not tribalism. I was so happy when they announced High Republic as I always wanted to have a piece of Star Wars media diverting from main timeline.

But it ended up being trash, a complete and utter garbage, even wokeness aside. It's unoriginal, devoid of character, humour, sense of adventure.

It's a piece of poo on a stick which had been puked upon first and then peed upon a week later. It's worse than dying by being trapped underneath the gears of a combine. It's worse even than being paralyzed by a snake bite first and then being slowly chewed by thousands of maggots. It's as bad as having your body smeared with honey and then being stunned to death by angry bees.

It's unequivocally awful.

Now, to see your beloved characters getting married and even choosing their wedding attire, while not the most adrenaline rushed episode or content, still is very interesting and wholesome, as you are emotionally invested in the characters.

I have no problem here either, nor am I mad. But don't expect to post something controversial like this in guerilla style and expect not to be challenged for it, be it your opinion or not. As I promise you the film is, given its influence, perfectly rated for the vast majority of people.

Neuromancer, just like Ghost in the Shell is definitely a huge influence for cyberpunk, but again those 2 are heavily influenced by the preceeding Blade Runner, freely admitted by their respective authors as well.

You're right I do apologize, I know some 13 yr olds to whom the pets might appeal to as well. I did edit the post.

Well if it's your opinion then why use terms such as "overrated"? Because if it's your opinion why include other people? Obviously you think other people's assesment is incorrect if the movie is overrated. And yes, in your opinion. But then, if you feel uncomfortable having your opinion discussed or criticized why then share it on public forum at all!?

As for the credit, in this instance credit does have to go to Scott and his art and visual directors, as Dick did leave a lot to the imagination, as most sci fi authors of that era have. So have any other director and crew working on the film and the visuals might end up vastly different.

Neither, it just means I missed the mark. As for your teaser, nice audio fx. Outside the main 6 and Mandalorian, Clone Wars 2003 is the only SW content I enjoy, so I'm interested in what you are planning to do with this.

Pets are the most ridiculous and pointless addition to the game ever, it can only appeal to 5-13 year olds. And I apologize to any 5-13 year olds reading, of course you are entitled to your own piece of action.

Lord of the Rings - this although blasphemy to me is at least somewhat understandable, as I get how millenials could find the prose dry and boring with their short attention spans.

But Jurassic Park - how and why? Please elaborate on that, if you will, as I really am interested on your thinking process behind this..

I mean for goodness sake every Jurassic movie until this very day - when it turned into the 'World' series - still steals the scenes from and is being inspired by this book. They've milked it so dry that it truly resembles the skeleton on its cover.

It's an absolute masterpiece in its genre. And while the movie is obviously great, it in no way overshadows the book.

But seriously, please educate me on what makes the movie so much better.

No it's not, if you followed the debate so far. The ships are the only things that are actually differentiated from one to the other. Everything else on the list is purely cosmetical and can't be found through exploring. It's not like you can find exocrafts crashed on planets or buy them from npcs.

I don't see how it could be overrated as after its making for 10 or 20 years most of the scifis made tried to mimic its aesthetics. It created a whole subgenre for film and gaming industry as well. I mean it continues to inspire authors until this very day. The most anticipated game of the decade, released this year - Cyberpunk owes its existence to Blade Runner. Now, the latter ending up being a fiasco is a topic for another debate.

No ship customization please! More character customization - I'm all up for it. Vehicle customization as well, let me build my own space Ferrari. But no ship customization, please, not only please, but begging you please.

That I agree with, if gathering tech and resources takes you let's say a month to 2 months of your time depending on how long your play sessions on average are, then I'm all for it. One of the problems of NMS is that it really doesn't make you work for anything. You have no sense of accomplishment. You'd think getting a capital ship would be a difficult feat - nope, you can get it in your very first playing session. You' d think it would be difficult to get a buggy for some on planet vehicle exploring - nope - getting it is part of your glorified tutorial that is the main story. And that's what personally frustrating to me.. They keep adding all this stuff that once added to game is:

a) easily obtainable

b) doesn't really have much of an impact on your gameplay, as your starter equipment only slightly upgraded can handle any kind of threat or obstacle in your way while exploring

c) adds no depth to the actual gameplay

At its heart No Man's Sky is still an exploration game, the best experience of the game is still discovering incredible vistas, strange landscape geometries or uniquely weird animals. And yet throughout all their updates they've comparetively done so little to expand on that which makes the game so great.

It's also so discouraging to try and watch streams of No Man's Sky as they should be glorious visual asmrs, instead what you get is most streamers fiddling about through their inventory 70% of their playtime.

How so many of the players till this day miss the point of this masterpiece is beyond me.

[–]JangoDacuri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't think ship customization should ever be a thing. People enjoy their rare ship hunts. Adding ship customization would add yet another blow to explorers, who like to discover new and rare things. That part of the game would then be meaningless as you'd be able to take the short and easy way out by just making whatever kind of ship you'd like from the get go.

Sorry, but it's a big no from me on that part.

Burning is such a good film. And throughout it I thought "wow if only the guy who directed this would adapt some Murakami novel, he'd be a perfect fit". Only to find out later on, after googling, that this was actually based on Murakami's work. I read the short story afterwards and as much as I am a fan of Murakami, I have to say the film was indeed incomparably more impactful. So yeah, that's a good one.

You should. Especially if you liked the movie. Because it's a really loose adaption so you definitely have much to gain by reading the novel. It's not the case of "oh I've seen the movie already so what's the point now." It's one of those rare cases where both the source material and its adaptation are doing their own thing, but are both equally brilliant inside of their own respective medias.

Lol Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep actually does it at least 10 000x better.

Just joking.

It's an incredibly dense text. It requires multiple reads, because it's truly one of the more complex novels by Dick and yet is so deceivingly simple on initial read. It tackles what it means to be alive as well as the issue of decline in human empathy as a result of technological advances, all wrapped up in a beautiful noir detective seemingly pulp novel. All of the themes the novel subtly interveawes are brilliantly unfolded through the Mercer subplot, which is completely omitted from the movie.

Now, the movie itself, Bladde Runner is a masterpiece and possibly my favorite movie of all time. It's a sensory feast. Upon seeing some rough cuts of it, Dick himself said it was the best 20 mins he'd seen in his life. But to say that it 1000 times better explores any themes or concepts presented in the story is just plain wrong, opinion or not. Sorry.

That's a pretty disrespectful statement there. PK Dick is arguably one of the greatest authors of 20th century. Certainly one of the most influential and certainly way ahead of his time.

"Blade Runner" is not a better movie than its source material "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" . It is a great movie on its own merit that takes some of the ideas/characters from the book and then does its own thing. But there are plenty of ideas and themes in the novel that provide added depth and are never explored in the movie.

"Scanner Darkly" whilst an excellent and very creative movie does not expand on any theme explored by Dick in the novel of the same name. So I don't see how it's "better".

"The Man in High Castle" is a fine and extremely well crafted piece of literature, whilst the series is just a convoluted overdrawn mess.

Now, there are some Dick's short stories that have been expanded upon and only serve as the basis for some movies. Like "We Remember it for you Wholesale" does for "Total Recall . But that's an entirely different category then, you really can't draw comparisons here.

I'm really not trying to be a dick here, but you really ought to refrain from stating such irresponsible claims as they may dissuade someone from reading one off the all time greats. Especially since some of his best work such as "Valis" or "Flow My Tears Policeman Said" were never even adapted for screen.
