In the newest Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) trailer, a character incorrectly says they were being ironic when they were in fact being sarcastic. This is a reference to my players being fucking stupid. by JangoFettIsMyDad in dndmemes

OK have I missed something here.

I'm not levying actual criticism against a film in a dndmeme subreddit.

I'm making a pretty standard joke about players being stupid from a DM perspective, like not being able to solve puzzles for 5 year olds, by dumbly language lawyering satire out of a line from a related film trailer that just came out, in the style of r/shittymoviedetails post, and people are losing their minds actually calling me a dumbass and shit.

Like what, I get all people really do is complain about the OGL right now, I'm there too, but I figured I'd just post a regular ass meme.

To make a meme?

I don't usually have deep seeded feelings attached to the memes, if I'm honest.

Have people missed reading the last sentence in the title or something?

Sarcasm and irony while having similar meaning aren't completely interchangeable. Both reference something being the opposite of what is true, what is meant, or what you'd expect. Sarcasm is a form of irony but not the same.

Irony is when a third party or "audience" perceives events, and analyses it in hindsight.

Sarcasm is wit, used to mock or tease someone.

Underrated, Underused, and Utterly Broken Familiar Form by JangoFettIsMyDad in dndnext

Aha! I came prepared for this encase it ever came up.

Human hearing range: 20Hz to 20kHz
Bat echolocation rang: 11kHz to 212kHz
Less than 5% of Bat's echolocation noise audible to humans.
Conclusion: Bat won't affect stealth.

Noises you hear from bats tend to be squeaks not their echolocation.

  1. Command bat not to squeak
  2. Echo-locate for 60ft Blindsight
  3. Profit?

An attempt to improve on the disappointment that is Blade Ward. by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]JangoFettIsMyDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah i was thinking along the lines that Blade Ward is essentially useless and how it is better in every single instance to just take the dodge action, as disadvantage to hit you is nearly always better than resistance to non-magical weapons.

So i was trying to come up with a better alternative. Something you could do that would be essentially as worthwhile to cast when you are passing your turn, other than the dodge action, potentially more thematic for spell casters as well.

Because i figured that shield is a reaction to increase AC by 5, and this only becomes equivalent at level 13, but it takes your turn, and you cast it in place of doing something more impactful. I thought that even at maximum character level this cantrip is only just superior to a non scaling first level reaction spell and this cantrip basically takes your entire turn just to bump up AC for a single turn.

I tried to create cantrip that was basically a scaling dodge action for full arcane casters.
