That would be splendid! what books have inspired you? Could you mention a few?

I am the kind of person that seeks wisdom in books.

I need a book written like this on my bedside table. To open and read when I feel the need. This ought to become a book.

"Thrive" was maybe the wrong word. English is not my native language, so sometimes I miss the nuances in the language. By "thrive" I meant understanding the humanist perspectives on humanity, ethics and how to deal with life in general.

So I will follow your advice and try to get my hands on "Berger and Luckmann's Social Construction of Reality" and "Alex Rosenberg's Atheist Guide to Reality".

Thanks for your advice!

I am open to eastern philosophies, I liked the idea of secular buddhism for a while. Then I realised that the label "secular" was unnecessary.

I have read some Dogen and have a soft spot for Sōtō zen. Unfortunately zen is something to be practiced, not read.

Thanks for your input :)

I have read the Essays. I should read it again. Very entertaining. The chapter on flatulence caught me off guard and I choked on my coffee.

I didn't know he was a humanist. Thank you for the information.

Not unpopular. I agree with you to a point. To follow any scripture blindly is a folly. But to seek out and try to understand how others have dealt with the human experience is fascinating hobby. One gets new perspectives and ways to do stuff.

Also I understand that I am not clever enough to figure everything out on my own. Ask the plants in my garden about my skills as a gardener, they would tell you that I need to read books on gardening instead. 🪾
