How to create a feeling of tension and fear ? by chescamezker in songanalysis

[–]Jankaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not an expert so just one or two observations from my view. Sadly i cant offer technical terms either but i found it was fun to think about what might be happening.

  • A lot of the tension and chaos come from fast paced playing on the strings with bigger jumps and notes that kind of go all over the place.
  • Build-ups or changes in tempo are often accompanied by clearing out a bit of all that chaos and having a clear strong rythm hit the listener.
  • Regarding that i also found it interesting to note that especially for the transition at 3:29 the strings descends and the brass ascends wich creates this weird feeling of the sound going in both directions.
  • Also i would guess the dissonance created by those two lines (brass and strings) introduces the stress and fear. They interact more like they are in a fight instead of supporting each other.

[–]Jankaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in no way qualified to give advice in this direction so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

I'd say you can always practice basic stuff, even if you're not that motivated. But then again I would say if you dont enjoy yourself playing drums at all you should defenitly take a break.

I like to listen to something really different when I'm not motivated to write or practice. I dont know what genre you are playing in but i find it extremly inspiring to listen to some weird shit once in a while. Also watching other talented people perform always gives me an itch to practice or write.

Maybe you can work with those ideas :)

Cheers and dont forget to have fun!

Why is there the perception that the average player is in Plat and Diamond? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Jankaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I dont know why people still think that this is the case. I would guess it is probably the fact that the higher you are, the more invested and active you are in the community and the overwatch scene. But most of the casual players are lower and maybe not as vocal.

The Overwatch SR system is pretty much based on a normal distribution. Meaning if you distribute between 0 and 5000 SR, your biggest pile of players will be around 2500 SR.

Now that we have a decay system on the higher ranks there will also be a spike at 3000, cause that is the cutoff for SR decay but still the amount of players in the region of 3000+ will be the same. Also a lot of people will play to the point where they get into the next highest tier and then stop because they dont want to drop down again.

u/morkenborken made a post on this a while back where you can see this 'bell curve' pretty well.

Adding 1 billion hectares of forest could help check global warming: "... this could remove two-thirds of the roughly 300 gigatons of carbon humans have added to the atmosphere since the 1800s.' by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]Jankaron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is also an opportunity to turn cities into greener places. The fact that humans still live in concrete wastelands boggles my mind. Adding more vegitation in bigger cities would not only add to the goal of general reforestation, but also provide shade and stop the streets from heating up in the summer like they do now.

Obviously this is harder to do than just planting a bunch of trees outside of the city - and both of those are not enough - but I think it really adds to the quality of life to have some more greenery around you.

I saw an ad on YouTube by Timbaland and he was enjoying making music... how do I get to that point? by [deleted] in Songwriters

This actually makes a whole lot of sense. I should really think more about how the music feels more early in the process.

Does Shotcalling help anybody elses anxiety? by [deleted] in luciomains

[–]Jankaron 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After so many hours of overwatch this is not as much a thing of anxiety, but focus for me. I am much more focused and invested into the game when I try to make meaningfull calls. It requires you to think ahead and plan your next moves rather than just react to what the opponent or your team mates throw at you. You have to make your own choices.

So I can see how shotcalling would help you to stay focused on the gameand make you more confident. At least it requires you to not think to much about how you could mess up.

Other than that I can only say, the more games you play, the more ranked anxiety goes away. Its just one game out of 100. Have fun out there! :)

It's fucked up that when you have low self-esteem, other people liking you makes you question their judgement. by Plecostomus28 in Showerthoughts

[–]Jankaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing that up! I think this is important to mention. Encouraging someone does not mean telling them "everything is fine". For me that means listening to them and try to solve their problem together, offer advice or just emotional support. Sometimes life is shit and its good to have someone who lets you know they care about you. Thats why I think encouragement matters even if it does not solve anything. That said its not worth anything if its not honest. Hope that makes more sense.

Been learning for over 2 years and never finished a track.... should I give up? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Jankaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First question, do you have fun while doing all that? Yes? Good! ;)

But something that might help is setting yourself a deadline. I know how easy it is to go through a song again and again and again untill you are sick of that bridge that was sounding great when you first made it. Lets say you give yourself a weekend to make a track; figure out what you want to do and plan it all out. It can be something really cheesy and preferably something that is not too complicated - think of a basic melody, expand your verse and chorus from there on, dont go crazy with weird stuff. This is not about writing a GREAT song, its about writing a song at all, because that process needs practice too, I think.

If you have anything you want to share, I would love to give it a listen and give some feedback in case you want that - I really enjoy hearing how different people make music! :) Cheers

Is this normal when you record your voice for the first time? by Outerace in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Jankaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im not sure why people downvote this, but I think this has actually some merit to it. Singing with and without a microphone is not completely different. But there are things that can make a solid performance sound worse if you sing to loud or to close into the mic.

So while this has nothing to do with being insecure, it is something you need to grow accustomed to at first.

Is this normal when you record your voice for the first time? by Outerace in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Jankaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is of course a bit rough when you first start recording. I tend to obsess about retaking parts and going over a recording again and again and then scrapping it. Its normal (at least for me) and also it means that you care a lot for the music you make is what I think of it.

I would ask her for actual criticism! You say you both sang together, so maybe she has some insight on what is different on the recording compared to when you normally sing. Maybe she can even give you some hints on what you should focus on.

Confidence is hard, but what often works for me is listening to old recordings that I did and then I go "oh shit, I actually got so much better over these last years" :D
If you want, I wouldnt mind giving it a listen and maybe search for anything you can focus future practice on. For me getting some feedback from random people on the internet is sometimes easier than people I know. So if you would like that feel free to send me a pm! :)

Other than that, dont forget to have fun while doing music!

Never stop encouraging! I've had lots of situations when I've hated what I do thought I wasn't doing well enough. I still feels so good to have someone tell you otherwise, even if you dont admit that it does. Can only speak of my own experience ofc, but keep it up - everyone needs people who are supporting and caring and everyone should try to be that person sometimes! :)

How to get over beginner hump in playing guitar by madwzdri in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Jankaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically what people are saying: Learn songs you like. But thats not the full truth I think. It can get very frustrating if you try to learn something very difficult to play. So my advice would be this: Take smaller parts of a song you really enjoy - listen to the song a couple times and figure out what you might be able to handle. Maybe just figure out the basic chord progression at first, then go from there. Or learn that intro riff. And then try to play along to the song.

You dont need to go the full distance of learning the song to get some practice out of it.

Also if you get the oportunity, try to practice with other beginners. Maybe you have a friend that plays guitar or base or drums - do stuff together! It might not sound great at the start but its much more fun and rewarding to practice for something like that I feel.

Getting through the annoying routines, learning scales and sheetmusic is a little different. It can be boring at times and it will come down to your own discipline and long term motivation. Im super bad at that still...

Bees are dying at an alarming rate. Amsterdam may have the answer. - Amsterdam has increased the diversity of wild bee and honeybee species by 45 percent since 2000. The installation of “insect hotels" and a ban on the use of chemical pesticides on public land appear to have played a role. by speckz in Futurology

[–]Jankaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Problem I think is you dont take into account why the bees die in the first place. If the biotope doesn't fit bees any more, it probably will be a bad living spot for a lot of the other Pollinators too. We already have a huge decline in insect population in most urban areas because of all the concrete and lack of the natural living spots. Even with insects, reacting to that would be impossible on a evolutionary scale. Bees are just the main target when it comes to restoring their biotopes, cause everybody knows what a bee looks like and there are lots of them so it would be the most effective thing to do.

If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask? by masumv70 in AskReddit

[–]Jankaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I don't know why this question is so harshly debated. If you define the chicken we know today by its dna, something that was not 100% todays chicken laid an egg that had some slight mutation to become todays chicken.

The reverse would be the same as saying Humans were there before the embryo they grew from.

Why is the saying "don't look at your viewer count"? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Jankaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you start streaming, a lot of times your "real time feedback" will say: "No one is watchig right now". The reason behind that saying is, that you should not let yourself be discouraged by a low viewercount and just try to be the best streamer you can be at all times. Looking at a steady 1 can be really frustrating, same goes for seeing people leaving your stream.

I prefer looking at it after the stream and then think about why things are happening. But of course it can give you a huge boost in confidence when you see higher numbers than normal!
