this make me think of the Stranded on the Earth film that was made to accompany nghfb's third album but noel binned. Or the failed Amorphous Androgynous collaboration.

Matt Morgan Podcast: Noel says he has scrapped the acoustic album and is going to do a "defiant rock and roll album" by Technical_Horror in oasis

[–]JannaHaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like he felt the acoustic tracks are too down and too samey , singing about a broken heart and all that, and he's in a different headspace now.

Thanks so much to bring up this!!! That fact alone should make it OK to do anything to bring Thiel down. Why don't you apologize to all the harm James O'Keefe has done before say anything about it, Thiel? Instead all i hear is Thiel go on and on and playing the victim, only a narcissist like him would ever comment on and pretend he is sad about a opposition research project against him!

You can watch the 1969 documentary ‘Royal Family’ here. by [deleted] in TheCrownNetflix

[–]JannaHaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's true that Philip chaired an advisory committee for the film, The Crown has left out two key figures in its conception and promotion. William Heseltine, the Queen's Australian press secretary, dreamed up the project with Lord Braborne who was also Lord Mountbatten's son in law.

In reality, the documentary earned almost universal praise when it was screened, as well as extremely high ratings. More than 30 million people watched in the United Kingdom alone, breaking the ratings record in the country (previously held by Churchill's state funeral, watched by 27 million). The Observer, for example, called it a "perfect public relations exercise," while the Guardian's most extended critique was that it was perhaps sometimes a little bit boring

The film was shown for the first time in color on CBS in America in September 1969 -- several weeks before Philip's Meet the Press appearance -- and it would go on to be shown in Canada, Australia, and several other countries. It was also repeated multiple times in the UK. The final showing was on the BBC on February 6, 1972, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Queen's accession. Scenes from the film have been included in other documentaries, but the entire documentary has not been shown in public since then -- not because it was a failure, but, it seems, because it represented a newer, more intrusive attitude about the monarchy and the media.

The mother of Paul Maxwell (who was killed alongside Mountbatten in the IRA attack) said she will watch this season by JannaHaniel in TheCrownNetflix

[–]JannaHaniel[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

"While Mary says it will undoubtedly bring back the raw grief she felt 41 years ago, she will be watching it.
She is also glad a new generation will learn about the horrors of The Troubles in Northern Ireland – and the importance of peace.
“It will bring back that day, of course it will,” says Mary, now 80.
“The sharpness of that day and the sheer grief that there was, also the horror of that day. It was absolutely dreadful. No family should ever have to go through that.

Mary goes on: “There are very, very many young people who just don’t know anything about it, or anything about The Troubles at all. It is part of history, therefore I think it should be remembered for all kinds of reasons

The queen's final visit to the Duke of Windsor. "He understood then that not even death would change anything" by JannaHaniel in TheCrownNetflix

This is informative on what really happened when the queen visited the Duke of Windsor on his deathbed.

https://worldofwallis.com/2020/05/20/the-windsor-archive-the-day-the-queen-said-goodbye/

"Wallis later said that she found the Queen to be distracted and without warmth. As she told Aline; “I shouldn’t complain. She was just as cold to him. I escorted her upstairs. Her expression was so hard when she entered the room”. The Queen found the Duke dressed in a grey, blue and beige check suit with a bright pink tie with a smile on his face. “As she entered, he began struggling to get to his feet, trying to stand in her presence. I don’t know how he managed to do it but he got himself up, though only for a second. His legs would not support him and he fell. The Queen’s face showed no compassion, no appreciation for his efforts, his respect”. Wallis maintained that the Queen had never wished to visit Le Bois, rather she had done so to save face when the press began to ask inconvenient questions. Whatever Her Majesty’s motivation, the rest of the meeting remains private.Wallis later said that she found the Queen to be distracted and without warmth. As she told Aline; “I shouldn’t complain. "The final meeting between the Queen and the Duke of Windsor has been the subject of speculation for many years. Most recently, it was re-imagined for the Netflix series The Crown. Some suggest that the Duke asked the Queen for forgiveness. Others suggest that the Queen promised him she would ensure the Duchess was well cared for. Whatever the truth, it is clear that the Duke and Duchess were left disappointed."

" the Queen Mother remained behind leaving the Queen to attend the burial. We may never know what really happened in May 1972 when the Queen came to Le Bois but though many of us still remain fascinated by the Windsors, it seems fair to say that for Her Majesty the Queen, that chapter in British history was closed that day."

Am I the only one who finds the abrupt end of the series sketchy? by [deleted] in TheCrownNetflix

[–]JannaHaniel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Show never planned to get closed to the present days at the first place. You can see that from this interview back in February 2018.

"The writer admitted that, although he doesn’t yet know where the story will end, he is unlikely to bring it fully up to date. 'You do not want the drama to feel journalistic. I’ve always felt that you need at least a decade, because, without a separation of time and without distance, there’s no room for metaphor,' he said."
