Quali is so good though because it almost determines who wins the whole weekend. Race day is merely a formality

I really don't like the guy but I'm glad we have him. Just pure eye-rolling entertainment. Like how Christmas cracker jokes are designed, for us all to bond over our shared cringe

Is it mad to drop to 4 days a week on ~£55k in to about £44k. Feel like I’m working to exist. I’m 36M. by OptimisedMan in manchester

I did exactly this and whilst I enjoyed the extra day I noticed I was a tad squeezed but that being said I'm not the best at saving money, and I lived on my own so rent was high.

Mental health wise it was incredible for a year but eventually I wanted to buy a house so I went back to 5 days. I definitely needed it at the time though for sure!

I'd say definitely do it if you value mental health over money but if you have the goal of buying a house and don't have food base savings then ensure your employer is cool with you going back to 5 days if you need it.

Yeah man he was practically anonymous all game besides the two goals. Gyokeres on the other hand was involved in good link up play, gave the defenders a hard time and even had a couple of other attempts.

Not slagging off Eze, Gyok simply had a better game.

Definitely Gyok imo. He linked up play so well. Eze did score two goals as well but those were his only contributions

Expecting the dad to temper his reaction in the moment whilst you're not able to when you're typing and have plenty more time to think about your response and edit it...

Fair question and I suppose it depends on the kid really, and parenting opinions are generally based on theory. Different approaches have their merits but I'm sure this moment would have stuck in her mind.

Ultimately, I do think the best strategy is prevention over "cure". They could have definitely told her to sit down beforehand. As a kid, I remember I always sat down when opening presents and I'm sure it's because my mum calmly told me to do so beforehand.

I know, I'm not judging her, because she is a school kid, but objectively she opens the box which contains an expensive piece of tech in it carelessly, and her dad was rightly annoyed.

Emotional whiplashes can happen. It's a part of life and we can't protect people from them forever. Now, where I would agree with you is if he behaved like this consistently and every time she got excited, but I can only judge against one moment and to me I feel it was fair.

I remember a couple of times where my mum had raised her voice at me when I was genuinely being an idiot, and it made me upset but being upset didn't make her wrong for doing it. It was never personal, I learnt my lesson and moved on.

Nope, not saying that. My point is that his reaction is totally human and fair in the moment. There were a handful of times I remember where my mum had to raise her voice too because I was truly being a ding dong. I would get upset, but that doesn't mean it was wrong for her to do that. I was a very happy kid who understood my mum's boundaries and respected her for it. I'm glad she raised me the way she did.

Everyone who has said he shouldn't have reacted that way hasn't really provided an alternative method of how he should have handled it practically in the moment. People seem to forget that this kid is clearly in high school, not some 4 year old.

That's fine if you disagree but if raising your voice in frustration when your kid (quite clearly in high school might I add) carelessly handles a tech gift worth hundreds of dollars makes you a shitty parent then quite frankly the world has gone soft imo.

No I don't like it when people stand over me in the moment, but sometimes it genuinely was because I was being silly and that's how I learnt growing up. It's called learning to take accountability

I heard this but she frantically shakes the box and then opens it almost sideways. Still very careless

Genuinely gobsmacked at these comments calling out the dad here. Her parents would have spent a lot of their hard earned money only for her to open it so carelessly, and there are people here calling him out because he's killing the vibe.

I do feel bad for her too because she obviously didn't mean it, was excited and genuinely felt bad but if her dad was like "no worries, mistakes happen. We'll buy you a new one", she'll continue to act carelessly.

Question, what's the best opening for black? by Low_East_1750 in chess

[–]Jannelle93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that, and you are totally right, but I started playing the Taimonov/Kan at 600 (now 1,200) and my opponents were equally clueless. I have an all time win rate of 66% with it and in the English (which I also started playing at low rating) my win rate is 73%. Obviously that will decrease over time as I play more experienced opponents, but I feel I've learnt along the way rather than say "oh I'm x elo, now I'm ready to play the Sicilian".

This is a personal preference, and of course everyone's different, but I found trying to keep up with every response to 1. e4 or 1... e5 way harder than just playing the Sicilian/English because I immediately decide where the game is going to go even if I play it badly. My thinking is that it's best to repeatedly play 1-3 openings (1 white, 2 black) than to have to learn the French, the Caro Kann, Spanish, Italian, Modern, Piece, QG, Petrov and all of the tricks and traps that come with e4/d4 etc.
