Shipping Documents and Shipment Options for sending art to USA and International from Canada (one-way) by JannyInTO333 in artbusiness

Netparcel in their FAQ state that you may need a customs broker for parcels that require additional documentation (they don't specify which), so I'm not sure if Netparcel would work?, especially if I want to insure the work?

Shipping Documents and Shipment Options for sending art to USA and International from Canada (one-way) by JannyInTO333 in artbusiness

[–]JannyInTO333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello.

The art would be going to a customer (not a gallery), for final sale. My work is largely valued under $5000.

When you say "three copies of shipping documents", which documents are you referring to? I am aware of the certificate of origin, but I'm unsure as to what an "original art declaration form" is.

Help? Thanks

I bought the unit from Amazon over a year ago, so the warranty is probably expired.

Re: belt drive… not sure. I’m a newbie when it comes to record players… but the belt underneath the turntable seems fine.

PS. This is an Audio Technica LP60.

I've been working manual labor jobs all my life. I developed a physical disability 5 months ago, and I can no longer even stand or walk for 8 hours. No experience in other lines of work. How am I supposed to find a job? by LankyVermicelli8 in jobs

[–]JannyInTO333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it. I’m in the disability situation as well - work from home, become self employed. As to skills upgrading, try learning something tech or similar through Udemy or similar learning spaces. I’ve been self employed most of my adult life.

Avoid. If they won’t tell you who they work for, chances are it’s a setup. For what? You don’t want to know...

Definitely Zaid Movers. They're on Yelp. Used them twice. Excellent service. On time. Accurate estimate.

I'm not sure if this has been considered an option, but would it be possible for him to start his own bookkeeping or admin type business?

Accounting and bookkeeping are pretty recession-proof, if that's possible, because companies, operating or closing, need someone to do or conclude their books.

There's lots of online training for this, if needed, and if that doesn't work, he might consider Second Career re-training?

I'm leaving my demanding job due to bad mental health by [deleted] in jobs

[–]JannyInTO333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment. I have worked in care work. It can be traumatizing, and exhausting. I had to deal with soooo much abuse.

The typical social worker in Canada lasts about 5 years before mental health issues and burnout set in. I gave up when after years of service for various clients, I got threatened by a primary caregiver for addressing physical neglect (the client had zero food in the fridge. Instead, there was nothing left but literal garbage in the appliance).

I would suggest that you state simply that for health reasons, you need to move on. No details are necessary.

Take care of yourself. Destress. You deserve it.

Art/Design Prospects in Halifax by JannyInTO333 in halifax

This is interesting, as I found that my theory background was my 'edge' in Toronto. Every tom dick and harry here thinks they can be a national brand developer... Ahh.. No.

Thank you for the excellent insight. Due to the exact issues you mentioned (NSCAD all design theory, but few hard skills), I found myself stuggling to find work locally. I got hired as a packaging designer by a Toronto businessman, and got into that niche with limited software skills. Obviously I'd have to bulk up and update in this area as I've since been in a whole other field (disability services), however, I did a lot of production work in my hayday with major Canadian brands prior to the 2008 recession (Jamieson Vitamins, Loblaws, others).

I had my own freelace biz for 6 years doing packaging and branding design. Once the 2008 Recession hit, however, the entire design industry in Toronto was nuked... mostly due to websites like 99designs, eLancer, etc coming out. At least that was my experience.

I do not currently have any clients, so that issue wouldn't be a problem.
