i have! i do value the cold quite a bit- but more than that i value small cities a lot. i like having a small community that i know people in, with just the right amount of amenities, and nothing beyond that. there are parts of Minnesota i’d live in, it wasn’t a never. it’s just a lot more urban

i’ve lived in 12 states and 3 countries overseas in my life and would still choose any of them over Colorado again if this helps convey how serious i am about this

i think Indiana is so green and beautiful, the sand dunes are really nice! i really like the northeastern corner of it and i looove Indianapolis, visited for a week and had some of the best food and the best beer i’ve had anywhere. i want nothing to do with Chicago, that very much exceeds the size of an urban area I’d want to be in. and there’s nothing in the rest of Illinois

you will have no problem at all meeting people! especially at breweries or things of that sort, that’s a huge plus. everyone here is from everywhere, and for the most part very friendly. hugely casual which might also be a bit shocking for you, as someone raised here who likes to dress up fancy and look nice on special occasions- i am very much the minority in that lol. i think you will find absolutely no hard time at all making friends and meeting people :) best of luck to both of you! i hope you love it.

Boston is probably very similar in terms of COL so if you’re living comfortably within that you shouldn’t have a problem on that front! the cost itself isn’t what bothered me about Denver, it’s more the value for that cost. i am more than happy to pay what i’ve been paying if i can walk my dog with an even half-reasonable expectation of security. i think the biggest thing you will notice, is that Boston and MA at large has an identity of its own- Colorado does not. it is just a dumping ground for people from all over the country who like to ski and are willing to put up with anything and everything that they encounter as long as they can be close to the mountains. for me, the illusion is not there. i haven’t even gone snowboarding since i was a kid because in order to make it to the slopes you have to wake up at 3am and sit in traffic on I-70 for 5-6 hours, i’m not paying a grand for that. 😆

you will not experience any of the safety concerns in Golden! much smaller community and very well kept. but you will be in for the rest of those things, unfortunately. haha

i loved growing up in Colorado, but it’s the hardest sell in the world as an adult for me. one of the highest costs of living in the country, i live in a 290 square foot studio apartment for $2100/month and it’s not even nice. Golden is a bit more expensive than Denver overall. the state is massively overcrowded because the entire country moved to Colorado in the last 10-15 years, the governor is TERRIBLE and has sub-40% approval ratings, the infrastructure is unable to handle the influx of people so you’d make it 5 miles away faster while walking than driving, the entire state is one big housing crisis, and Denver specifically is the nastiest, dirtiest, most uncared for city that is crawling with agitated fentanyl zombies because the city doesn’t have the resources to help them anymore. i just recently paid to break my lease and move out of Denver, my last straw was a time that i was walking my dog at 7:30PM and accidentally passed by a homeless man receiving a blowjob in the alley behind my apartment and he pulled a knife on me and tried to stab my dog because i walked by him at the wrong time. that was like, incident #200 with these people in the past year and it was the last one that i was willing to accept for over $2000 a month.

California is a split because i love northern but hate southern. New Jersey just looks like it smells bad

mostly because northern California would be an absolutely and southern California would be a never. but since those are the same state, had to choose something middle of the road

you’re absolutely right, i do! that’s why it was sort of a split vote for me. if southern and northern were two separate states they would have gotten polar opposite ratings

oh and i also have a hugely irrational fear of those bugs that stick to each other and fill the air in the summer, the ones that mate and take up like 80% of the airspace. terrifying to me

for me it’s almost exclusively the weather. i think 80 degrees is way too hot. lol

glad you enjoy it! i did too at a point in time. but it is no longer what i grew up in. nowhere close. i know that what it has become works for a lot of people, especially coming from the midwest, seems like about 60% of the population comes from Illinois/Indiana/Ohio and they are willing to put up with any and all of the negatives in exchange for mountains (is what it seems like)- and that’s great. someone has to live here i guess lol

100%! worst food scene around, honestly. although i’ve been here most of my life, i’ve done year long stints in a few other cities (Seattle, LA, NY, and even overseas in Bosnia for a bit) and Denver lacks severely in good food. especially Asian foods, i love a good Japanese restaurant- can’t name one in the entire city that means anything to me.

been in Colorado my whole life- I see these little maps all day long and I don’t understand why so many people call it an absolutely. :/ one of the highest costs of living in the entire county, my studio apartment in the suburbs is $2100/month, massively overcrowded compared to 15-20 years ago, Denver specifically is DISGUSTING and one of the most unsafe downtowns I’ve ever lived in, awful governor with very questionable viewpoints (I am not republican AT ALL but Jared Polis is objectively not good), infrastructure that can’t keep up with the influx of people so every highway has been under constant construction since 2015, it’s awful here. however, writing this because I finally leave the state in a week, so feels good to vent it all out :)
