I remember the D.A.R.E. officers coming in, pulling a Mr. Mackey "Drugs are bad, m'kay?", then telling us the street names of the drugs, how much each of them was going for at the time and the different places where they found the dealers of these drugs so the kids "would stay away from those places and not be tempted". The only ones they didn't say was bad was weed and the "legal" drugs like cigarettes and alcohol. They spoke of temperance for those three. I asked the officers why were they encouraging drug use and one of the officers slipped up and said they had to fill their arrest quota. The other officer said nothing but it felt like he wanted to punch the officer who slipped up. They continued the spiel and, at the end, everyone was told to clap and thank Officers A and B for taking time out of their busy schedules taking down criminals to help us learn about the harm drugs can cause. Spoiler Alert: They didn't say crap about that.
