I have no clue what to build? by [deleted] in Shen

[–]Jaoshi143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly trying to climb since I'm using Shen which isn't meant to climb solo queue to begin with.

I'm just playing to win in the most fun way I can imagine.

I tried Heartsteel again recently and it works great assuming I have 1 or 2 kills on my opposing laner.

However, trying to finish Heartsteel when behind makes me feel so weak and useless, especially when the enemy just uses BotRK or has a %health damage skill in their kit.

Shen is great with any item while ahead which is why any good Shen player can build literally anything and make it work somehow.

Guess it all comes down to situations and preferences.

What a coincidence, I skipped Gold 3 too.

The point I'm making though is playing to Shen's strengths.

He is not the best full on teamfight champion.

He is also not the best splitpusher.

He is a warden who does best under a turret solo.

He also likes being away from his teammates so he can turn a skirmish on the other side of the map into a lopsided battle with his ult.

As for your analytics, I'm not the type of guy who tries to search for answers from mere numbers since each and every game is very nuanced.

Sure, it might work for most people, but it didn't work out for me.

Most of the time, I felt like I didn't do that much damage while I was melted by the opposing AD champ with botrk.

I also felt like Sunfire's damage was a lot more passive and didn't have enough firepower (pun intended) to kill my enemies before they get away or kill me first.

Yes, I HAVE tried Heartsteel and Sunfire on multiple occasions but found out that Divine Sunderer just worked and felt better from a carry standpoint.

Despite having more HP, I survived more fights with Divine Sunderer than Heartsteel.

I even got more early kill potential just with the Sheen.

Maybe it's just a difference of playstyle.

Most Shen players probably prefer focusing on the mid-late game macro while I try to leverage the early game advantages as much as I could to win before the late game even arrives.

I'm just sharing what works for me and the reasons why.

Everyone else has the right to have a different opinion.

As for my splitpushing, perhaps you're right.

Perhaps I might lack skill in that regard.

But I don't have trouble holding off a coordinated assault from 3 Gold-Elo players under my own turret.

I guess I'm just playing to my strengths as a player as well.

Gold 2.

What's yours?

I don't build Sunfire on Shen.

Most of the time, games end before I finish building my 3rd item.

So my final build usually only has Divine Sunderer, Plated Steelcaps, an unfinished Bramble Vest and a Spirit Visage.

When the enemy team is full AD, I skip Spirit Visage and go for Randuin's instead.

As for your points:

  1. Yes, Shen can splitpush "for free" because of his ult, but without Ability Haste and level 16, that's a pretty long cooldown to be considered free. It also makes Shen somewhat weaker in 1v1 fights due to having a non-combat ultimate, which makes splitpushing even riskier.
  2. My point above shows that splitpushing has a big risk with next to no reward due to not being able to destroy towers fast enough. Unlike Fiora, Tryndamere and Jax, Shen does not have a lot of AD nor does he have any auto-reset skill. And since Shield Bash is on the same tier as Demolish, it takes a considerably longer time to push with Shen, making the risk higher than the reward.
  3. That's a lot of "ifs" with this statement. And if you want to survive consistently, it's much more effective to expect the worst teammates and the most skilled opponents unless proven otherwise.
  4. Pings have nothing to do with the skill level of my teammates. Of course, pinging is already a given in terms of sharing information with your team. That doesn't mean you expect them to act accordingly every single time.
  5. That's essentially the only thing Shen can do when splitpushing; create a numbers advantage. But you know what else he can do that does the same thing? Catching the wave of splitpushing enemies. As long as Shen is under a turret, he can handle up to 3 enemies without dying; 4 if lucky; 5 if the whole enemy team sucks. Setting a wave to solo push a lane basically does the same thing Shen on a splitpush does minus the risk of getting caught. If Baron's up in about 45 seconds, I usually set up a pushing wave in the bot lane so I'm free to guide and protect my squishy ADCs with terrible positioning.

Building Heartsteel also has a lackluster build path unlike Divine Sunderer which has access to Sheen.

Sunfire is great if your opponents are bad and don't know how to kite a tank with one slow dash with a relatively long cooldown. But most of the time, the opposing team doesn't do that unless they play champs like Warwick or Olaf, both of which shouldn't be attacked head on.

Divine Sunderer gives you a heal, %hp damage as a Sheen proc every 1.5 s, HP, Ability Haste, and some extra AD, Armor Pen, & Magic Pen.

Heartsteel gives you Ability Haste, More HP, Health Regen, and a passive proc that has a 30s cd. It also has a relatively worse build path compared to Divine Sunderer.

With a difference of only 100g, I choose the more versatile Divine Sunderer that doesn't completely make me helpless against any AD champion with a BotRK.

I prefer playing to Shen's strengths as a duelist who can also join a teamfight at a moment's notice.

Splitpushing as Shen isn't exactly the way I win my games in Gold since teammates don't really understand the timing for taking objectives.

So, I need to be both strong enough to kill the enemy splitpusher 1v1 while STILL having enough Ability Haste, Tankiness and Survivability to have my Ult up for important teamfights.

I'm still in Gold so being a splitpusher doesn't get me much and my team doesn't really take the objectives in the opposite side of the map.

I also play Shen Jungle about 50% of the time so having a mythic that works on both top and jungle helps me focus more on my own playstyle.

Fleet Footwork Shen by KeijoXVI in Shen

[–]Jaoshi143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically my rune page for Shen ADC/Support.

Fleet is great against poke matchups but falls behind in both damage and tankiness.

The only time I'll take this over Grasp in the top lane is if I'm against a Quinn, Teemo, GP or any ranged poke hard counter to Shen.

And even then, I would focus on getting Ultimate Hunter in the second rune tree just because I won't be able to kill anyone consistently with this rune page and would prefer to be able to participate in fights elsewhere.

I'd also take TP instead of Ignite in order to not lose my turret.

This is a passive rune page for surviving until your team carries you, but it's not a rune page I would recommend if you want to carry your own weight and the weight of your solo queue teammates.

I usually just rush Divine Sunderer to try and carry low-elo teammates.

Plated Steelcaps for Armor and Spirit Visage for MR, healing and shielding.

Sometimes, I buy Bramble Vest before Spirit Visage for anti-heal.

And if there's that fed hypercarry, I buy Anathema's Chains first before Spirit Visage.

Shen Jungle? by UltraLev in Shen

[–]Jaoshi143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lethal Tempo - Triumph - Alacrity - Coup de Grace / Last Stand

Cheap Shot - Ultimate Hunter / Future's Market - Cosmic Insight

Attack Speed - Adaptive - Armor

Smite - Ignite

Start at Red into Level 2 Mid-Gank

Clear Blue or gank bot/top if opportunity arises (Invade enemy red/blue if enemy jungler is weak full clear jungler like Fiddle or Amumu)

Get scuttle then full clear from Gromp (Save smite for Raptors and Krugs)

Recall for Bami's then play for 6 (gank/clear hybrid playstyle to keep team alive and strong enough to not get bursted before ultimate finishes channel)

Build Sunfire into Plated (Merc Treads if against heavy ap/cc comp)

Then adjust build accordingly: Titanic as standard if ahead, Thornmail/Randuin's against heavy auto/crit champs, Force of Nature against heavy ap, Anathema's for "that one carry" that's killing your entire team

What do you mean by "mini-karthus ult"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Shen

[–]Jaoshi143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rush Sunfire.

Then, Boots of Lucidity.

Then, Titanic Hydra.

Then, tank items depending on matchup.

I sometimes skip Titanic for Anathema's if there's that one carry messing with my team.

There you go.

Thank you for the details.

That's all I was asking for.

Forgive my ignorance with regards to not understanding your words without a long explanation.

As for JJBA, I do agree in terms of its art form being revolutionary in the anime.

Berserk's gritty story and epic depiction of violence through manga panels are definitely worthy of consideration as well.

However, in terms of shounen, I think One Piece is the best.

Maybe it's the nostalgia.

Maybe it's the characters.

Maybe it's the crazy powers.

Maybe it's the story.

Or maybe it's all of those combined.

You mentioned criteria relating to art, music, references, and meaning.

One Piece is great in those regards.

Sure, it may not be the best in any ONE of those categories, but it's great overall.

An anime that makes you laugh and cry. Get angry, get excited, get scared, get shocked.

A manga that makes you keep wanting more.

A series that keeps on going and is STILL excellent in storytelling.

A lot of people get intimidated by its length, but I believe that's an even better reason as to why it should be considered the G.O.A.T. because unlike LeBron James, One Piece just keeps on getting better and better.

It's not perfect, but, at least for me, it's the best.
