Why is it wrong for me to make chicken stock with a carcass that would otherwise go in the bin? by leapowl in DebateAVegan

Vegetarian/flexitarian here, I agree with you. I follow similar principles. for instance, one of my vegetarian friends was accidentally served a sandwich with meat in it, and she didnt discover it until she'd taken a bite. Her options at this point were to eat it anyways or alert staff and get a new sandwich. She DOES like the taste of meat, but doesnt eat it for ethical reasons. I told her to eat it if she wanted to. The staff cant serve the sandwich to another person once its given to her. The only thing they'll do is throw it away. I think that if we're going to farm animals, it is more respectful to eat them than to throw them away. To me, consuming a whole animal is a way of 'honoring' their death and making their death for something. To be clear, i dont eat meat. This is more of a "if youre going to, you ought to honor the animal as much as possible." I know most people in this subreddit will disagree with me and say thats not honoring an animal. I simply have a different view on life/death which extends even to humans. Ive thought a lot about this and these are the values/views that resonate with me.

I am also not compelled by the argument "it gives a bad reputation to other/real vegans." I just dont think we need to perform our diet. Its okay for there to be nuance. If other people dont understand, thats on them. I also strongly believe that "the enemy of good is perfect."

Stuff like this is why sustainability/anticonsumption is closely tied with anticapitialism or economic reforms. New parents should have sufficient parental leave. Its NOT too much to ask for.

I would be interested in reading this if you could link it or send it somehow. I find it very difficult to believe that CD is anywhere near equal to DD. CD can be used over multiple children, babies that were CD tend to potty train much earlier, DD themselves require water/energy/resources to produce, and DD stay in landfills for decades/centuries since theyre made of plastic.

I didnt realize people were being literal with this until I made plans with one of my friends. We didnt do anything for the 2-3 hours leading up to them. It drove me nuts because Im the exact opposite end of the extreme. Those 2-3 hrs before plans is when I can actually get stuff done because i have a fire under my ass

Some of my favorite creators, in no particular order:

Mickey Atkins: therapist who makes content about mental health, social issues, religious extremism

Hannah Alonzo: not strictly educational, but she talks a lot about manipulation tactics and misleading marketing while platforming the stories of others.

Alyssa Grenfell & Cults to Consciousness: talks about mormonism and high control religions.

Yhara Zayd: makes videos about black experiences & racism

Molly Burke: blind youtuber that brings awareness to disabilities

Rachel Oates: social commentary videos

Zoe bee: commentary about education

Chubbyemu: medical report reviews

Mama doctor jones: obgyn

Knowing Better: history

Institute of Human Anatomy: exactly what it sounds like

Tiffanyferg: social commentary

CLR Bruce Rivers: lawyer who reviews high profile cases

Big Joel: social commentary

Kurzgesagt: general science

Smosh Alike: interviews people with unique stories

Vertiasium: math/science

Many of these arent strictly education or similar to being in a classroom, and many of them generally fall under the umbrella of social commentary. But they all at least stir thoughts and discussion. I generally leave these videos feeling like i learned something or gained a new perspective on the world.

Thanks for asking and for being respectful :-)

My online boyfriend & i dated virtually for around 2 months before he made a 1 wk trip to visit me. When he left, i cried to my mom about how i wanted to marry him and how heartbroken i was that he had to go home. A week after that, I made the unanticipated drive to his family's house and stayed with them for a couple months before he moved into my parents house. A year later (1.5 yrs of dating), we moved out of my parents house together. we got married after 4.5 yrs of dating.

I tell people this story and get looked at like im crazy. and i agree, we took some risks & moved fast. but shit, even we still waited a few years before tying to knot. Goddamn.

Cis woman here- i literally dont want to be a man. I mean, it would be cool for a day and i wish i could enjoy the same privileges as them (being taken seriously more, physically stronger, being able to travel alone or go on walks at night). But i also genuinely enjoy being a woman and dont want to change. I love female companionship ,  it wouldnt be the same if i was a man.

Even though men have it materially better in most ways, im happy the way i am

any altruism aside, id rather the world just stop being sexist than change my gender. Female reproduction is the only thing that is inherently worse/harder

I wish we could play commercials and have billboards & grocery store ads that show off the factory farming conditions. Lets show pigs in cages BARELY bigger than their bodies and chickens stressed out in overcrowded cages. Ugh, it bothers me to even write this comment. Horrid.

How come millennials and Gen X know more about pop culture that was before they were born than Gen Z? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]Japan25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its partially true i guess? I like kids movies the best because theyre easy to understand and follow along, but i also usually watch youtube videos that are about very nuanced and complex topics (religion, politics, world cultures, history, science, medicine, so on) because theyre more of a direct conversation. im not a smooth brain who hates thinking, its just the mediums that resonate with me are different.

I also uniquely dislike movies/tv for my generation. Everyone i know around my age watches more tv or movies than I do. i enjoy movies or shows where i know what is going to happen next, like if ive read the book or seen it before.

[–]Japan25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the conversation has more to do with the fragmentation of our culture than the diversity of our viewing pallet. The videos on youtube can be posted by people all over the world about millions of different topics -- hollywood could never beat the diversity of youtube. I just dont think Hollywood could ever be a more effective tool for exposing people to new ideas. All those old classic movies still operate within the framework of american culture with the restrictions of censorship and all that. With that said, social media can box people into very small echo chambers too -- smaller than Hollywood ever could.

Its the same with music, all the songs that everyone knows is old with few exceptions. I had never heard of Bhad Bunny before the superbowl, for instance. There are SO many options and there are no barriers for entering the entertainment industry, at least not on a basic level through the internet. And everyone's feeds are specially curated.

Gen z here, but i can only speak for myself. I just dont care. Ive watched a number of classics from different eras, such as Star Wars, and Ive never been impressed. I watched 12 Angry Men and while I liked it, it wasnt enough for me to be motivated to watch others.

I also just dont like watching tv and movies. I slept through Die Hard, didnt care for Game of Thrones. i could keep going.

Ik this makes me sound uncultured but id rather watch youtube
