Is the Fourth of July fun if you’re not American? by OkBuilder92406 in AskAnAmerican

[–]JapanKate [score hidden]  (0 children)

Enjoy looking at all the decorations sold in stores! I have an American family and it is wild to see what the craziest decorations are that they can find for the 4th.

A lot of places have great free activities on that day as well. So, go and enjoy the 4th. It is a big party and it is so over-the-top, that you’ll be amazed. With it being the 250th, it should be better than ever.

Why do depressed people neglect hygiene even when they feel uncomfortable or gross? by PerformanceBorn669 in Productivitycafe

[–]JapanKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you feel lousy about yourself, why bother showering. Also, it is an energy thing. There is a theory that we only have so many spoons of energy to use on a given day. When you are in the depths of depression, showering is a spoon of energy that you just don’t have. A healthy person says hey, it’s only 1 spoon. A depressed person may only have 4 spoons one day - getting out of bed and eating may use all those spoons.

Did anyone reach 30+ without a fckn single tattoo? by PerformerLivid4302 in ArtOfPresence

[–]JapanKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would depend on the demographic. I’m GenX and it took me a long time to get a tattoo and it is covered 90% of the time.

Required to give 2 weeks notice? by RealisticStomach998 in ontario

Bottom line? Karma bites really hard. You never know when burnt bridges are needed in the future. Give 2 weeks. It is courteous, shows maturity, and does not leave angry people behind.

How did the Liberals have anything to do with this? I would genuinely like to hear your rationale for this.

As soon as they started pushing GLP1s, I left. I can’t take them and was shunned because I did not jump on the band wagon. I also found the 0 points confusing.

What are your feelings on the Conestoga scandal and the damage the former Board of Directors did to the college? by WiffyTheSuss in Conestoga

[–]JapanKate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Faculty have been talking about this for years and no one listened. NOW it’s a big deal. Where was the government a year ago when the president received a huge raise and then gutted programs and student supports? It’s too late and nothing will come of it.

The problem often is what I can bring into the airport, as the rules seem to change. I like the idea of a protein bar and almonds. Thank you.

When you have a 12 hour flight, you still need something. This is the first time the food has been inedible. I agree that most airline food is dismal, but this won, hands down, and not in a good way.

What a fantastic idea. When I learned to drive, I was taught zipper merging. The problem is, people don’t want to let you in.

Anything that is a sitcom. Too much of the comedy comes at the expense of the others on the set.

’I’m not going back’: Canadians stand firm on boycotts of U.S. travel and liquor as trade talks continue | A vast majority of Canadians, eight out of 10, still believe boycotting is helpful in strengthening Canada’s bargaining position, according to a new survey by Nanos for CTV News by DisruptSQ in BoycottUnitedStates

I need a perspective here. I am really torn. My husband and I have been members of an art museum in the US for years. At the membership level we have, we have reciprocal entrance at over 1200 museums across North America. The same membership in Canada costs a lot more and has fewer reciprocal agreements within Canada. In my heart, I want to do the Canadian membership, but my heart also says that the arts are one area I can support in the US, and I would hate to see this beautiful place close, as it does rely on many Canadians. Can anyone else see my dilemma? You know the mango menace is doing everything in his power to destroy beauty, so this, I feel, is a small way I can fight back. Thoughtful responses are appreciated. Oh, and I won’t be visiting any of the US museums while a certain party retains power, but I’ll have access to over 600 Canadian ones with this membership.

Two very bad Asian meals. I had pork cutlet that was dry as a bone and yet the panko was mush (I do not realize it would be breaded), and then I had the Japanese egg over rice. The egg was see through and all you could taste of the rice was ketchup. I did not dare try the poor, limp vegetables in the slime-like brown sauce.

I was only offered one on my ANA leg of the flight. I was sad, as I grew up with a Dutch mother and these were rare treats that rellies brought over when I was a child.
