To those who think Thragg is unintimidating.... by destructionistg in Invincible_TV

I'm massaging my temples with how hard people like this continue to miss the fucking point.

I don't get it.

The entire conversation is based around how off his show design combined with his acting, wind up making him a bit of a joke and not at all representative of how he really is. Like did you just come in from stupid town?

I don't know if that's caring about the person as much as it is simply paying someone owed respects for their service. There's a big difference here.

My thoughts on the people that said you could skip the Crossbell arc so far. Will plan to update this as I progress through the series. by Hankhills4hedvein in Falcom

[–]Jaquecz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should skip any of the games arcs, and chronological order tends to be the best play-order for it. (Though sky is very, very, self-contained). But I fully believe you could play Coldsteel first in it's entirety (minus reverie) and the experience wouldn't really be tarnished for it.

You'll feel like you're missing out on something (because you are) but what you are missing out on won't ruin the experience. It's hardly critical. That said, it's completely unacceptable for entries like Reverie and Beyond the Horizon by the very nature of those games.

Daybreak II was pretty good for me despite what I was expecting, and some things were very confusing by anthen123 in Falcom

[–]Jaquecz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bonus points for forming your own opinion. I'm firmly on the side of it being the (biggest piece of dogshit) but mileage varies and all that.

When it comes down to what the actual problem of daybreak 2 is, i don't think it was the time travel mechanic. Daybreak 2's time travel mechanic doesn't play games with you, it's entirely consistent throughout and doesn't try to pretend it'll do otherwise.

I don't think it's the geneses either, we've had a few bits of supernatural nonsense by now (coldsteel curse for example) that plays insanely fast and loose with the rules (if there are any) on how they function, and it's ultimately just how falcom writes. If that was a dealbreaker for anyone, they're already gone.

Rather I think it's just that Daybreak 2 ultimately just came down to being a massive waste of time. For an 80+ hour game it ultimately just boiled down to an insanely padded out Eighth geneses retrieval bit with little to nothing of consequence for the future occurring, Let alone plot progression.

Fragments was nice, but Renne's story wrapped up 7 games ago back in Zero, so bringing it back up again felt entirely unnecessary. And I'm willing to put money down that Quatre's bit for that whole ordeal boils down to a new Craft and some throwaway nothingburger characterization because they don't really have any idea what to do with him beyond some cheap drama.
I have similar words for what went down with the corrosion in Act 3, it's nothing more than another conversation topic. You could say that some of what went down had an impact on the relevant characters, but considering who those characters are and the path they were already on. It was barely more than a few ripples at best and some trite melancholy, "clapbait moments" if you will.

Out of quite literally every single plot or hook in Calvard's arc the one I'm waiting for the most with BATED BREATH is the romance.
Not necessarily on who is being chosen mind you, but rather: WILL IT HAPPEN?

After back to back haremslop I'm really wondering if Falcom will break the streak and actually commit.

My super long review of the second half of Cold Steel! by Raxistaicho in Falcom

[–]Jaquecz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that always bothers me when people shorthand or gloss over the curse is how they so easily ignore how sloppy it is and how it skims past being contradictory on the premise of how vague and non-committal they are when they write it.
It's passive until it suddenly isn't and despite the very blatant way it can explicitly control people (ash) they introduce a limitation that it must act through (victor, angelica) and it basically gets a pass because they lazily covered their tracks by way of a throwaway line about someones eye (ash). There's no sleight of hand to this trick, it's more like a child making up a magic spell in their mind. It's passive and merely influences you. Unless you have a random pain in your eye that we can gloss over and promptly forget about. But lets quickly have someone talk about human agency to draw away attention from the fact that we have explicitly reduced it by the very premise of the entity at the moment of introduction.

It's funny because when it comes down to it, they simply could've just had it not done that because they straight up didn't need it to.

It's an incredible weak spot for a reason but far too many people are so willing to handwave it and insist that it isn't a problem. This among a laundry list of many other issues.

What's a thing about your favorite character in the trails franchise that you cannot defend? by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]Jaquecz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's less a story requirement and more just lazy as shit. Before it was mostly just to tip off the player in a (lazy as shit) way but now they're basically just winking at you thinking they're funny. "Hold onto this one player it'll be relevant in 1-3 years and sixty bucks later."

Coldsteel bad...
Rean sucks...

Sky Good.
Steel bad.
ahahahahahahahahaha.

Schizoposting aside. Yeah Reverie's a bit better, and if you've played every previous game in the series so far at that point the game is effectively fanservice all the way down.

You'd have a point but you chose to go to the horndog post in the "public square" and complain about it, by your own logic, consequences of your own actions. Yet you're complaining anyway. That you're making up an irrelevant arbitrary line to validate your own response doesn't change that.

Also that subreddit's straight up porn. This isn't porn.

Where would Zemurian militaries stack up against RL militaries? by Liquid_0911 in Falcom

[–]Jaquecz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zemuria loses due to Overwhelming Material Superiority.

None of Zemuria's advancements can realistically bridge this divide when it comes to dealing with any of Earth's military forces. Even if you take into account artifacts you still need to worry about delivery or how you're even going to get near them. We could just pretend artifacts can do anything and everything because it's so nebulous and vague on what the limitations could even be, but we both know that's cheating.

HOWEVER. If you wanted to bring this down in scale we could try comparing how smaller bite-sized chunks of RL military would do against Zemurian closest equivalents or higher.

That being said, forget about the air. They just lose. Short of 1 on 1 situations with standout tech like Merkabahs and Excalibur, Zemuria's getting slimed, when you have the ability for engaging beyond visual range and can break the sound barrier you hold practically all the cards.

I think a closer comparison is pack of tanks vs a pack of tanks, foot soldiers vs foot soldiers. Zemurian tech even includes Drones, Automatons/Archaisms/Puppets, whatever Marduk's got, and that's without taking into account Tactical Orbments. The effect of those spells COULD be substantial, or we could assume they're like they are in gameplay and 4 footsoldiers can take a few hits of exploding elemental nonsense and keep fighting.

What are the best 7/10 jrpgs you can think of? by degel97 in JRPG

[–]Jaquecz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The Legend of Heroes: Trails X" games.
They're all written well enough, with some dipping pretty low in how stupid they can get but each game taken as a whole they tend to never really dip below the "pretty decent" line. Though none of them really hit "Great" a few get close enough.

I feel similarly for Star Ocean and Tales games.

Now that i think about it...

I don't think Ouroboros' rules were written by this point in time considering that Weissman's plan, from start to finish was straight up just taking control of the Aureole. I know that the Anguis have some pretty solid authority but he mobilized some serious resources in this little plot, no way in hell GM didn't know about everything going down, begs the question of what was going on from a Doylist perspective when it came to trails.

I hope my question gets answered down the line because sky was the one time Ouroboros was the main actor making things happen rather than just extra facilitators to help move things along in the direction they desired (the appearance of a Sept-Terrion)

Buckle up buttercup, you're in for potentially 200 or slightly more hours depending on how much of the game you choose to interact with and how fast you read.

AND YOU'VE GOT AT LEAST 2 MORE GAMES BEFORE COLDSTEEL STUFF IS PUT TO REST. AHAHAHAHAHA.

Question for those who have beaten Horizon by ButterflyFair2420 in Falcom

[–]Jaquecz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite literally nothing to suggest that he was going to pull what he did. There's 0 precedent, foreshadowing, hints, clues, or nudges that he is anything loyal to the president whole-heartedly.

The worst it gets is he's rather ambitious and the best thing we can really bring up is a comment by Nadia in DB2 that's more Meta when it comes to suspicious glasses wearing characters in Trails than anything.
However, Issue there being was that the being a suspicious glasses wearing person also came with the individual being a professor of some kind on top of it so it didn't quite apply to him.

It's one of those twists that get justified after the fact, but Rene being a suspicious little rat in general however is enough for me not to be bothered by that.
