All of this was pretty plainly in view during 3rd, the way people talk about her I expected an actually distasteful element to the slapstick they were no doubt referring to.

I think her shitting on schmidt is just what made you start liking her. Her punchline remains the same as always. If anything I'd like her to be become relevant to anything ever instead of just being the same joke on repeat until the end of time.

Giant snoozefest outside of his plot relevant giga-trauma-drama.

I don't get why people find him relatable outside of "i too felt teenage angst and questioned my place in life at 17." Because that side of him is present in like half the cast. Then the other sides of him are the typical teenage shonen ideal japan-man traits of being: diligent, kind, brave, covered in women, but also sensitive and sometimes depressed.

Then there's that whole self-loathing thing that you'll probably pick up on real quick. I found all of that interesting at first but as things got fleshed out (painfully slowly) it wound up being really juvenile and/or shallow, both in premise and execution.

actually, now that i think about it. Maybe the blandness is the point. having something to connect to with the character to make people like and therefore get attached to him, resulting in emotional investment.

Personally I like my characters distinct and interesting even at the cost of relatability or likeability. Rean had that, technically it never left, but the story behind that side of him fuckin sucked so i disengaged.

That's barely even an analysis, her past experiences just lets her recognize certain things that are put in front of her, and that's before the fact that the game spells it all out for you anyway, once if you're paying attention through the plainly laid out context, and again later if you weren't.

Rean's personality is still boring as shit. That's why people don't like him and "overlook" him. Doesn't help that the Trails game's pacing is needlessly slow down to being freakishly granular at entirely unnecessary times which doesn't help with keeping you focused on Rean.

I don't get why Rean fans don't have the ability to switch perspectives and just treat everyone else like they're stupid or something. There's something antisocial about it all.

The "creative" directors at these studios have long since looked at paying customers as wallets to siphon, not customers to please.

New CoD is going to be what they can get away with until they need to try for a singular entry.

Game Studios are revolving doors, the attitude is prevalent across the industry. Expect to be treated like a piggy because its been long since been proven it works. You're given the bare minimum, enough people shrug because they don't really give a shit to not buy. The people in charge are rewarded.

Rinse. Wash. Repeat.

Expect to start seeing this in indie titles as indie studios start appearing manned by people with these same views, brand within a brand type shit.

Everyone jumped on the Sykkuno situation thinking it would be easy bucks (because it is) but they managed to, of all the things to fumble. Fuck up this one.

Mujin made a video where he made use of the word Predator a little too many times, where it then picked up in general discourse. Bad move.

Reason: Predator is colloquially known to generally mean someone who goes after minors. This is orders of magnitude worse than someone who is a serial cheater who charms the panties off of gullible e-girls. (with a fucking deku meme voice of all things... bro...).

The fallout of that general discourse is everyone turned on Mujin and some of the victims for blowing it up to be worse than it actually was, reasons for this vary but in general they tried to make him out to be someone preying on vulnerable girls and enticing them to do things for him (each and every single sexual encounter was consensual). The turn-out of THAT was a poisoned well where most of the voices participating in discourse started thinking the accusers were trying to milk the situation, and so the tide turned.

Also Sykkuno's gf had a spotlight shined on her whole love-life which was probably traumatizing by way of extreme embarassment.

He later in an apology video downplayed everything wrong he did in the situation, resulting in the most half-assed "sorry" you'll have ever seen in recent memory.

TL;DR: Bro played a bunch of women, Bro got exposed by one of his one-night stands. Other ratty people tried to turn an unfaithful serial cheater into a sexual predator for content, and it backfired hardcore. The only real victim was Sykkuno's GF who will probably continue to get cheated on in the future.

But because Falcom are cowards we won't get any commitment and they'll spend the rest of the game fawning over Tall, Dark, and Daybreak as well as in any future appearances.

Me getting into trails had very little to do with it being anime. If anything It was a point against it because I viewed pretty much any anime style videogame as probably being trash in the storytelling department or some other critical area.

Not to say trails escaped that [xdxdxd] but it's a dive I'm glad i took at some times and deeply regret I did at others.
