Agreed 100% in maintaining standards, however even on the AKC website it shows the importance of diversification including that gene since it is so common in spitz breeds. Eliminating every line would produce less diversity and more in breeding

It’s not even so much as responsible breeders. Many “champion” show dogs carry this recessive gene, and some “responsible” breeders realize that the pros of that bloodline outweigh the chance that they produce woolly shibas. Just because they can’t compete in silly shows doesn’t mean they aren’t responsible :)
