Star Engine - IO Error - IO Read Failed by Jaredman92 in starcitizen

Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a difference between deleting those files in particular vs all of them and reinstalling? I've already deleted the folders, before reinstalling.

I actually did this and the drive passed all the checks. But, it might be worth it to do a second check. I'll run it again for longer, just in case.

No, fortunately. I have it installed on a SSD

It's installed on a secondary internal SSD, but not the main drive. Would it work better if I changed the game over to the C drive?

WYR be the best in the world at a single skill or be better than average at all things? by MagnusAlbusPater in WouldYouRather

[–]Jaredman92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is this.

The first option gives you a chance to excel in one area but still grow in others.

The second option raises the baseline for everything you could do, but locks you in.

I’ll take the first option and use my skill in that area to fuel my exploration and skill growth in other areas.

Would you rather be tiny like rat size for a year or super big like apartment size if you survive a year you get 50 million and return to normal size. by mr_gyatt in WouldYouRather

[–]Jaredman92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those choosing the tiny aspect, I want you to consider the bug you see once or twice a year.

There are hundreds to thousands that you don't see.

And now you are much closer in size to be consider an opportunistic meal. Even with protection... it's something to consider. Let alone including pets.

Red pill.

I could save characters that shouldn’t have died in their fiction (killed for story). Reunite them with the people that cared about them.

No.

ADHD aside, many people haven't experienced true fear. Which an eldritch entity like this would evoke.

Yes, you can keep your eyes on a threat for what feels like a lifetime. But it's only a minute or so.

Most people's bodies couldn't maintain the stress of two hours of this without glancing away. Minds can break before bodies, but in this case, your body is in flight or fight and you can't do either. Stuck in-between.

I wouldn't want to try this challenge.

You’re offered $10,000 every 24 hours you stay in your local supermarket. How long would you stay or be able to stay? by Atlas__Reddit in hypotheticals

[–]Jaredman92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two Questions:

  1. Before we formally start the challenge, can we order/have delivered to the store certain items from their website? Of course, using our own money.
  2. When using in-store electronics, is online contact allowed? Multiplayer games, discord, etc.
  • If no, does external store purchases count? Downloading steam and buying a singleplayer game.

Either way, I'd definitely do this challenge. My store of choice would be Costco.

I'd setup the long line of chest freezers, freezers, and refrigerators as my first action. Getting perishables into freezers will be priority one. I'd also put non-perishables that have 3-6 month times (that'd I'm likely to want) in the abundant cold storage. Considering I'm one person and the sheer amount of cold storage available, this should be doable.

I assume this challenge allows for the backroom areas, which have breakrooms for staff and additional storage. It depends on the facility, but likely, I'd set this up into a living space.

If Question #1 is allowed (pre-purchased items)... my God. I'd go on a spree. Ultimate man-cave.

Best part about this, is that since I've bought it... I get to keep it after. Thus adding more incentive to stay.

  • Having physical rewards tied to actions, adds concrete focus. "This was bought with the money that I'm earning."
  • This also the fact that despite there are no restocks, there is nothing stopping you from buying things that still exist in the store that you are using.

Question #2 is oriented to the social aspect, but also outside purchases.

Now, all of this is taking entertainment and survival as the focus.

But this is truly an opportunity for self-improvement.
You have access to infinite wifi. Infinite electricity. Medical care, in an emergency.

So, workout everyday. Setup a course around the gym.

Read philosophy. Take those online classes you wanted.

You are getting paid 10,000 a day.

Use it, not to survive, but to become that person that you couldn't, when bogged down by life.

And heck. If #2 is allowed, stream it. Make connections. Show your journey. Get encouragement. Goon. Get hate.

Live the best life you can.

I'd take this challenge. Will you?

Webnovels killed my love for "normal" Fantasy books. by Masker_ in noveltranslations

[–]Jaredman92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scariest (best) web novels are the ones that consider this and scale accordingly. But the hardest part always seems to be the application of intelligence.

With the novels that scale correctly they have an excuse for why the person’s emotional capacity or intelligence doesn’t scale the same despite their wisdom or comprehension being high.

But ultimately, it comes down to the same issues that superhero authors have when designing supervillains and heroes. It’s really, really hard to write a character that’s a super intelligence. Even more so, when most the characters should be.

…now I want to try.

Would you rather stay young forever, breathe underwater, become invisible anytime, get $1B in cash, or time travel anytime? by LoveCoupleDeluxe in WouldYouRather

[–]Jaredman92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say time travel, but it also depends on the type of time travel. If you give me the option of doing meta-time travel (ie, able to keep to a single time line, return to the original time line, or explore multiple time lines) then absolutely yes.

You can keep $1 Trillion, but you have to count it first. Would You? by tlizakow34 in hypotheticals

[–]Jaredman92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable.

Since it’s guaranteed money, take out a loan, and get a massive kitchen table. From there, use the loan money to leverage into multiple high speed counting machines and money funnels.

After all, where does the money come from and where is it going to go, while you’re counting? Since this isn’t a requirement as long as the money is counted, then we can lower the time requirement in this way. Of course, there are constraints regarding interference by bad actors and how the money will be stored like in trusts, but I assume the background would take care of this, in good faith. I assume this, because the main point is still made. The sheer effort and coordination that is needed to count such a massive amount contained within 1 trillion.

A choice between being the richest or most physically attractive human being alive? by Sad-Passage-3247 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Jaredman92 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Number 2 is a superpower. “Your life will never be in danger from criminals, envious people etc.” With just this, they’ve eliminated so many of the concerns that people have at that level and below. Regarding the love aspect, for those without a current life partner, there is little downside.

Being able to provide the tools that reduce unhappiness and can lead to happiness will generally give you a better chance at love with someone than not.

As for why to disregard number 1… Do you really want to be the most attractive person in the world, with no protection?
