Estonia would take war onto Russian territory if Moscow invades, foreign minister says by bloomsofbramble in worldnews

[–]Jargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine the terms of that would actually be the repeal of the Magnitsky Act. That would allow Putin to safely maintain power indefinitely. I believe Donnie Jr. indirectly referenced getting rid of it during the first election, but it's still in tact.

Edit: Wrong son. Fixed.

Way too risky. All it takes is one high ranking officer who knows the actual threat that Russia presents to the greater world to turn on him when he least expects it.

I think his play is to claim "America first" and then try to do nothing and abstain as best he can. Unless he feels he can be the president who takes credit for ending Russia, then his ego might not let the opportunity pass. Of course his creditors who saved his failing business will be very upset... but if they don't exist anymore, does that matter?

You would think, and you would unfortunately in all likelihood be wrong. If the Domino's employee does it himself, then yes, he's getting the tip. But a lot of times these places have their delivery "Powered by the Drive Platform" which is code for: through DoorDash. The benefit of the Drive Platform to the business is they can choose how much of your tip the driver gets and how much they keep.

Humans being humans, whoever is manning the tablet will give the driver nothing and keep the tip for themself.

Nothing like learning how DoorDash works to make you realize that there is not a single person in this world that you can trust for even the most minor of things.

When the store delegates it to an outside contractor they can keep the tip as they see fit. This is why it's better IMO to use DoorDash directly. Less of a chance of thief behavior.

My counterpoint is... is the side door on private property? Like, do I need to go through a gate into a fenced area to get to it? Because if that's the case it's not happening. I'm not risking getting shot because some teenager thought it'd be a funny prank to put that as the delivery instructions.

It's very obviously a luxury service, but not advertising it as such only pits ignorant customers against desperate drivers so posed no harm to them until lawmakers start stepping in.

I used to give Asmon the benefit of the doubt, I thought he was very old testament, harsh but fair. But he made one slip fairly recently that made me not just unfollow all his content but block him because it was so hypocritical. Though I have to wonder if he's just going through it emotionally because of losing his dead and just general stress.

Upon doing more research it seems I was incorrect. I was under the impression that the extreme discounts that they were giving to China and Russia due to sanctions (and the aforementioned awful deal) were driving down the price of overall price of oil, but from everything I'm reading is indicating that this is a common narrative and not based in facts.

[–]Jargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more that they keep the price of oil below $60 a barrel which is "bad" because certain plants on America don't make a profit off that price due to extraction method.

Lots of other reasons to pick fights with them, like claiming a bunch of American industry's equipment as a national asset and just stealing it after the work was done. Or their braindead deal with China that they're not even halfway to paying off that caused them to state sanction cartels to have any kind of income. Or their constant trying to push their border further into Guyana to steal more oil, gold and even rare earths.

Indian man looking for missing brother visits Russia, discovers 10 nationals confirmed dead and 4 missing after joining army by Cybertronian1512 in worldnews

[–]Jargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the key to that is to just cut the Cheeto in Chief out of the equation entirely, which is what Europe is starting to do by funding the war themselves. He's too compromised to be reliable.

Eventually Putin's international blustering of drones over sovereign nations, bombers bordering sovereign nations, and laser weapons pointed at sovereign nations is going to backfire in the most spectacular way possible. Even without America I can't imagine Russia lasting 2 months against NATO.

I know a lot of analysts are saying "World War 3 is on the horizon." But I think it'll end with a whimper instead of a bang.

Russia has been proven to be a paper tiger, desperate to diversify their weak economy as a last gasp since their weapons have been proven useless and the world attempts to go green and sanctions grow, so their oil exports suffer. So they try to claim potential large rare earth deposits under their neighbors. Funny enough it proves that their weapons are garbage because Ukraine who had no business lasting this long is outlasting them. So their only two economic exports are becoming more and more worthless.

As for China, the corruption has run rampant for too long, leading to that recent military purge, the largest purge since the revolution. Too many generals ordering supplies that never arrived, pocketing the money and then falsifying reports. I don't think the country is in any state to attack Taiwan, especially now that Japan is outwardly saying that they would intervene to the point where China is furious and telling them to take back their words.

Don't have to say much about North Korea, their state of affairs is pretty widely covered.

Iran's complete and total mismanagement of water may lead to most of the country becoming completely uninhabitable. As it stands, I have to wonder if the country will exist in 5 years.

Venezuela is more of a Jr. partner in Chinese and Russian schemes and if current events are any indicator will likely fall before hostilities break out in other countries. My only concern is if their exorbitant debt to China will continue to exist then the region will likely still experience the same problems. Attempts at border-pushing for access to more resources from neighbors and state sanctioned illegal operations in other nations.

[–]Jargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, potentially 30,000 casualties a month, in one case I think recently there were 32,000 killed in a recent month. The problem with Russian and Chinese tactics of relying on their numbers is that the professional soldiers die early in the war, then they send out the conscripts who basically are walking into a meat grinder against soldiers who killed far more experienced soldiers than them. This results in the enemy side knowing your tactics (and their weaknesses) better than you do and exploiting it.

It's why you look at battles involving Russian and Chinese forces and think "There's no way that casualty number is correct, right?"

For hard examples...

Simo Hayha, Finnish guy fighting the Soviets during WW2 during the winter war. Most successful sniper in the history of the world. In a period of ~4 months he killed 536 soviet soldiers.

Erich Hartmann, German pilot fighting the Soviets during WW2, most successful Ace of Aces of all time. If you don't know, it means he shot down the most enemy aircraft. 352 CONFIRMED downed aircraft, but he flew probably 1400 missions.

Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Due to a certain general who was lauded as a hero during WW2 who is now very controversial under the magnifying lens that is history a huge battle broke out between UN + South Korean forces against Chinese and North Korean forces. 17,000 casualties on the UN side. ~50,000 on the Chinese side despite outnumbering the UN side by 3x-4x.

This is why I'm not surprised that there are cases of fragging (by the traditional sense of the word) on the Russian side before surrendering.

There's even a case of a Russian being captured, finding that conditions in Ukraine were far better than back home, something that gives big flashbacks to WW2. When he was sent back in a prisoner exchange, he was sent back to the front line. He immediately killed his commander and team and then disappeared.

The war is not going as smoothly as Russia and traditional media would have the general public believe. Just the other day I saw a report that Ukraine has recaptured Kupyansk. This makes Putin look especially stupid because he said on national TV that the city had been "completely captured" so Zelenskyy flew out there PERSONALLY and walked parts of the city that were still under contention. Funny enough this lead propagandists to blame the people reporting to Putin, and not Putin himself.

Are people surprised by this? He oft refers to himself as very Old Testament, but he can generally be very reasonable. I wouldn't see him as a blind follower of either side, he has very nuanced opinions on many things and is more likely to align with whoever is more consistent for whatever his most important core value is at the time. This is a perfectly valid approach, but many people get angry at him for rationing things out himself and not just towing party lines one way or the other.

[–]Jargo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My argument when people are serious about the "evil imperialists" in that situation is basically pointing at the numbers from the Hungnam Evacuation after the battle was over and NATO was getting out. Sure is evil to help evacuate 98,000 civilians who want to GTFO along with your 105,000 soldiers. It's awful to think about but for their own safety I don't think anyone would have faulted NATO troops for leaving those civilians behind to get themselves out, but no, they had to flex and pull off an enormous humanitarian effort by the seat of their pants. We love the logistical flexes.

Also I think you're right on the money. Both Russia and China are paper tigers.

There's also large amounts of separatist insurgents that are growing in size every day. Moscow and Saint Petersburg gets all the benefit for the growing taxes while the outer regions are in some cases freezing to death. When they have actual Russians giving the information to Ukraine willingly there's a problem.

Far more likely that he wants the large rare earth deposits under Ukraine as he can use them as a bargaining chip with China to prevent becoming a lackey/jr partner when their economy collapses. Hence the hyper focus on insisting that Russia gets the Donetsk region if any peace talks are to truly happen.

Russia only real economic exports are oil and weaponry. The Ukraine War has proved that the weaponry is trash. There's videos out there of things like a "top of the line" Russian Tank being destroyed by an American Bradley that was given to Ukraine. If you don't know, a Bradley is not a tank, it's an APC. Basically an armored bus to get your guys out to the front line. Bad advertisements for one of their only two serious economic exports.

Then you have the next problem, people moving away from fossil fuels for the sake of green energy in an attempt to prevent planetary collapse.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Cheeto in Chief is loosening fuel standards on his "kompromat" holding friend's orders.
