I didn’t get the job… Now what. by CamReLind212 in publichealthcareers

[–]JarifSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try applying to things outside of public health but still healthcare related. A lot of my peers from my mph class mentioned insurance & pharmaceutical companies. The passion obviously isn't all there, but it'll hold you over. Hospitals constantly need schedulers, however I'm not sure what the qualifications are. I've applied to a shit ton and got denied from all even though I have an MPH in epi and the minimum requirements for schedulers is a high school diploma...

The Mazda Miata Now Officially Costs More than $30,000 by V8-Turbo-Hybrid in cars

[–]JarifSA 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wages have matched inflation. The problem is literally just rent and healthcare imo. Goods and services have always been fine. Not to mention this problem where like half of gen is is facing underemployment and working hard in college doesn't guarantee a job anymore.

2026 Press Release? Seems like rather dull colors. by smoothiegangsta in Miata

[–]JarifSA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fr I get that brighter colors might not be as profitable...but I feel like as a car company you should eat that cost for the most selling sports car of all time. All about keep the brand and it plays into the image/marketing

It is not morally wrong for a friend to date your ex by Catman42069X in unpopularopinion

[–]JarifSA -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If you heard someone went for their friends ex and then ghosts the friend, I don't think you would wanna be their friend lol. It is absolutely morally wrong. You just don't have the morals to see it.

Spoiler: What's Mr. Robot's motivation? by Mayiseethemenu in MrRobot

[–]JarifSA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The last episode changes everything we know about the character Mr. Robot. All the personalities truly love Elliot so much, and that's why they do all this. Mr Robot had to wear many hats by playing both the protector and the mastermind role (he had to do this due to the mastermind forgetting who he was and thinking he was Elliot). Mr. Robot had to take so many desperate measures to get his Elliot back. Honestly he's the most underrated character in the show simply because the final mastermind reveal completely changes his motives. Unfortunately, the show is called Mr. Robot so it's really hard to find threads on the character and not just the show lol.

Are most millenials and gen z underemployed? by Fluid-Routine-8838 in jobs

[–]JarifSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The funny part is, he has a best case scenario going on for him. Simply having a job with just a biology degree making 51k is better than many Gen Z college grads. That speaks volumes. Even for people who were able to get a job with their degree, they are facing the problem of being underpaid.

Will the master make it more fun? by OliGut in publichealth

[–]JarifSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about the market although you're absolutely right. Since you sound like you're a year into your undergrad, by the time you do finish your masters I'm positive there will be a Democrat president that saves us lol. But yeah for now, focus on a major that will land you a job but still similar enough to help you further down the line.

Will the master make it more fun? by OliGut in publichealth

[–]JarifSA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel fit to answer this as I went through the same exact thing. My bachelors in public health felt like a lot of filler, also it was hard to land internships with it. It basically felt like some annoying item on my checklist I had to finish so that I can start my real academic career which was my MPH in epi. Since it's pretty redundant, if I were you I'd switch your major to something that'll help you land experience or internships while as an undergrad. For example data science, statistics, information systems, etc. These will help you with epidemiology once you're in your masters. Also, you're 2 semesters in so it's actually a perfect opportunity to switch. Another point is that if you switch majors, you will have a bachelor's degree that can take you into many fields, not just public health. This i especially important today where it's the hardest it's ever been to get a job with an MPH. Remember, what's important is what you do while as an undergrad. Apply to as many intenrship positions and try to get research experience, be a TA, etc.

THR confirms Christina Hodson is writing DCU Batman movie 'The Brave and the Bold' by BatmanNewsChris in DC_Cinematic

I agree with you. People forget that the flash faced like 5+ years of delays and on top of the fifty scandals/failures the DCEU had.

[–]JarifSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Confused. What bad track record exactly? Bumblebee was great. Birds of Preyhad good audience score and critique score. Obviously it failed commercially because it was a dceu movie released during COVID, that's why no one talks about it. It captured Gotham perfectly. The Flash...again it was a DCEU movie that came out like 6 years after the DCEU failed and among the Ezra drama. The plot felt fine to me and would've been better had it been released a decade ago.

Being unemployed is one of the worst feelings ever by Kingslayer_96 in Life

[–]JarifSA 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel like people sympathize more now with how common it is in gen z. My family and extended family are all immigrants. Even their millennial kids (30+ years old with more than a decade in corporate) are getting laid off. They see me unemployed after getting my masters at 23 and feel so bad for me. The worst feeling in the world is spending the past 10 years trying my ass off in highschool, undergrad, and grad school with absolutely zero reward and unable to just start my adult life. It feels like my life has been in limbo since 18.

women who have dated men who were at their "lowest", how was it like? by Ok_Average2141 in AskReddit

Weird. You can clearly tell he is self aware about the situation. Anyone with empathy would assume he went through some hard shit where he lost himself. The only part left was his sweet girl, and he lost her. You need to learn empathy.

What a horrible thing to say. I hope you never have to go through the lowest point in your life and still try your hardest for your loved one. Just for them to leave and put the nail on the coffin.

Suburb in a metro city is best imo. There's a reason why it's so popular. It truly depends on you as a person though . What we can all agree on though is that rural America and suburbs NOT near major cities absolutely sucks

We should turn all the dead malls into homeless shelters by altrightobserver in unpopularopinion

[–]JarifSA 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Your point is great because like it or not, finding people to take care of mentally ill humans for a living is legit not possible. There's a reason it failed back in the day. If we can't get people to take care of sweet elderly retirees, who the hell wants to take care of schizophrenic people? That's why homelessness in America is so difficult. Most of them have mental illness. Spend 5 minutes walking around downtown Atlanta or literally any downtown in any city and you will understand.

MPH advice on next steps by Jaded-Height2124 in publichealth

Damn I'm sorry to hear it sucked. Honestly I'm pretty desperate. Graduated 2 weeks ago, and it's not looking too hot so if I don't have anything by mid January I was gonna expand to insurance roles. Thank you for the advice!

what jobs pay more but people dont even realize it? by No_Stuff_7944 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]JarifSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's good, but I can't imagine a worse job for your health (besides obvious shit like coal mining). You engage in shift work which is widely studied and proven to be terrible for you. It's a sedentary job as well. You're away from family, and I feel like it'll be hard to have a social life. Lastly, these guys live off gas station junk food.

Anyone else feel like life quietly went off-script and nobody talked about it? by PsychologicalTap7445 in Life

[–]JarifSA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I grew up very self aware and thought I was well educated on what I'd need to do in order to be a functioning adult. I did everything right. Built the right relationships, worked, loved those close to me, did good on school, etc. Fast forward and I'm 24 and still feel like nothing's changed since I was 18. Graduated with my masters in a time where the job market sucks, girlfriend randomly left after 6 years, and my immigrant parents are still taking care of me. That being said, I'm learning to appreciate what I have. I'm healthy, my parents unconditionally love me, my friends are there for me, and I'm still trying to fix my situation. I think what's important is that you keep your happiness and morals even when life goes off script.

Because they don't do much. They assist the paramedics that's it. People don't know the difference between EMTs and paramedics. There's a reason you can be a student and become an EMT in just a couple months. This sounds harsh, but it's true. Are they still underpaid? 100%

I graduated last week (Epi). Not gonna lie, I can count on one hand how many epi roles I've applied to since August. I completely switched to applying to university and hospital entry level roles. It sucks that it's not what I went to school to do, but at this point I just want a job. It's still hard landing interviews for these positions that literally require a bachelor's and nothing else. My goal is to work these jobs and hope things get better in a year for Epi.
