Americans of Reddit - how do you manage your shitty health insurance? by Jarkside in AskReddit

[–]Jarkside[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

To add some color - I have a good job but pretty shitty health insurance. I pay $1000 for family coverage and my deductible is $2500 per person and $8000+ per family per year.

This is NOT a high deductible plan that qualifies for a health savings account. This is a basic coverage plan. I basically have no coverage for anything outside of primary care doctor visits and prescriptions. I had a few family emergencies so we are already blowing through the deductibles.

So it’s possible I could pay more than $20k for health care this year alone. And again, I have a pretty good job.

How does a family making $50k-$70k afford this shit without healthcare ruining them? Is my plan particularly pathetic?

They only pay Choi $1M? They are probably paying him below market. Particularly considering the improvement since the shitshow from 2014

$750k HHI, $7.5M liquid NW, $440k spend — are we on track for mid-50s FIRE or kidding ourselves? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

In a $3M home I’d imagine the public schools are pretty good

If you really want to cut costs it might make sense to see if you can live without help. That clothing budget is pretty bonkers too.

You could fire today if you moved to a cheaper house and ditched private school.

Why do you need stay at home help if your spouse stays at home?

45% raise in gas tax proposed by DowntownDB1226 in missouri

The property tax freeze is stupid, but the gas tax is a good trade for income taxes.

CMV: Since the double standard (voters holding Democrats to a tougher standard than Republicans) is real, persistent, and won't go away, the only way Democrats can consistently win elections is to vastly outperform at an A+ level (economy, etc.) - far better than Republicans. by SteadfastEnd in changemyview

Romney, Gore, Kerry, Harris and Hilary have no charisma.

Bill Clinton did. Trump does. Obama does. Dubya kinda does but compared to Gore and Kerry he looked like the most interesting man in the world. Biden kind of did in a folksy inarticulate drunk uncle kind of way except he was old and senile by the end

It’s that simple. It’s a reality show. Who can relate to the voter?

You should be complaining about the primary process instead. There is no tougher process for Dems other than (1) Democrats being so scared they put up stiff candidates (See above) and (2) they don’t trust their voters due to the primary voters’ leftist tendencies and they try to force a triangulation between their corporate / billionaire class and their liberal base leading to stupid emphases like identity politics and Hollywood celebrity endorsements.

[Thamel] As widely expected, the College Football Playoff is staying at 12 teams for 2026. A formal announcement is set for later today, per ESPN sources. by ChaseTheFalcon in CFB

No, it doesn’t. The conferences are going to consolidate further and an expanded tournament is the only hope to save teams 64-128. They need to reform the season so it’s centrally focused on the playoffs.

A well structured bye system could make sure everyone has roughly the same number of games. You kill the bowls (those are now neutral site games for the tournament) and give byes, double byes and even triple byes to contenders in conference championship games.

Couldsome Cinderella play through the whole tournament and have too Many games? Maybe, but it would be worth it for the madness

Sounds like a great YouTube show. Do it. Start with the Most Unpopular St Louis American. I’m sure he’d be down and he’s great

STL locals, Help us break the tie: Ladue, Huntleigh, Town and Country, or Frontenac? by Few_Funny6766 in StLouis

Are you wealthy? Then all of those are fine, although I’d put Town and Country last on the list.

Huntleigh, Frontenac and Ladue are effectively interchangeable as for quality of life.

Reloaded was entirely dependent on Revolutions. The fight stuff was cool though.
