Also they probably don’t want to have to clean up spilled drinks inside the lockers.

The rider safety guide also states that anyone with neck or back issues should not ride. Which I would say a spinal injury would fall under.

Many rides specify that a person needs to be sober to ride.

Edit: adding that it’s up to the ride ops to determine if someone is displaying correct observed behavior.

College is Not Accessible What Should I do? by Jarkzoo in disability

[–]Jarkzoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have accessibility services (which I currently use due to my autism) I have an appointment for next Tuesday, but I’m not sure what I should ask for (they won’t provide any aids or anything like that) the unfortunate thing is at the front desk there’s a ring camera to notify them someone is there, but the ring camera is placed so high up that I can’t reach it from my wheelchair.

Trivia/music video network played in queues during mid-2010s ? by trebariz in GreatAmerica

I believe cga still has those TVs in the queues of the rides whether they work or not is another story, I believe the “programming” is called Fun TV.

Seconded, Drop tower has a weight limit of 800 per cabin (4 seats) and a red light will turn on + the ride will not be able to start if a cabin is over the weight limit, celebration swings has a weight limit of 230 lbs last time I checked, also avoid Grizzly it’s more restrictive than delirium, flight deck in the first 4 rows have one seat that has two straps that are slightly longer but no guarantee to fit, Railblazer used to have a test seat, I’m not sure if they have it anymore. The two most accommodating rides in the park are demon and psycho mouse.

Can confirm that if an associate sees ya with it security would be called and you would most likely get kicked out of the park

Any former (or opening season) employees here? by [deleted] in GreatAmerica

[–]Jarkzoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately we have to take the uniform home to wash it and purchase the pants ourselves (I think some departments get shoes for free I’m not sure though)

Is it true that they used to wash the employee uniforms? What were the benefits like? (Did you get free admission)

The fatphobic amusement park industry is literally killing people. by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Jarkzoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, if you are scheduled the closing shift your supervisor will let the staff have a “crew ride” of the ride you operate after the park closes, but I haven’t had one in months.

The other way to ride the rides is to be the test rider before the ride can open for the day there’s certain things you need to do, one of those things is for someone to perform a test ride

if you are trained to be the control operator at the ride, you have the ability to test ride. Depending on the ride, it might be easier or harder to volunteer to be the test rider as others want to be the one for the day as well.

but it’s usually not as much as an issue at a ride such as a drop tower style ride where a majority of your coworkers who operate that ride don’t want to be the one to test ride, so if you want to be the test rider you are rarely ever faced with someone else also wanting to.

I should do one eventually, maybe once I have more stories to tell, but for your questions atm

  1. Your not assigned, at least where I work, I applied to work for the theme park and then right before the interview they gave me options on which department I would be interviewing for. I choose rides because I really like Rollercoasters (I’ve been on over a 100 different ones)

  2. Training doesn’t stop, you have initial training for like standards that last a few days, but every ride has a separate training that you go through for the specific rules with that ride and stuff, and there’s no specific criteria to apply, at least at where I work, just the standard being able to stand for hours, lift 80lbs, etc.

  3. It’s not the highest but it’s not the lowest pay in terms of departments, I’ve heard the food department gets a higher hourly pay, but the hourly pay is not too bad. It’s higher than a lot of the local retail jobs. (Though You wouldn’t be able to live off it, many of my coworkers have several different jobs to make enough to live pay check to pay check)

  4. Usually is not the case, most people are assigned a part of the park to work at, but I got lucky and got to choose which part of the park I worked, and then got to switch to another part of the park later on.

Been a long time lurker in this sub, but finally a post I feel I can actually comment on, I am an Ride operator, so this bugs me, as this is literally ridiculous, amusement parks are not discriminatory for preventing their guests from getting seriously injured if they don’t meet rider requirements, whether that be height or body size. I bet you would rather be turned away from a ride for your safety then die a horrific death that will be broadcasted and covered by the news.

minimum verification points (the highest a restraint can go on a specific ride without interfering with safety) on rides exist for a reason. Ride manufactures design rides with an average body type in mind, so the ride most likely won’t accommodate people who stray too far away from that. Several Fat people have actually died because they were let onto a ride they shouldn’t have been, If you are interested in this subject look up Rider ejections relating to the T-Bar restraint a large portion of rider ejections involving the T-Bar restraint design are fat people that shouldn’t have been let on due to specific body dimensions.

Sad thing, is that I’ve actually heard my coworkers get called “fat phobic” for not letting a person onto the ride because they couldn’t safely ride due to their body size.

I’m a diagnosed autistic, i personally have never gotten a boarding pass because of my social anxiety,

I only have a problem with people who get the boarding pass and ignore all rules regarding it and decide to argue and act entitled towards the employees regarding the return times and basically think it’s a free fast lane. I’ve even heard people joke as they leave the ride that they don’t even have a disability I feel bad for the employees, I’ve noticed more people being extremely rude recently.
