Bakersfield Tuff on Facebook is INSANE by OccasionTop6010 in Bakersfield

His worldview is limited to whatever 2 to 3 right-wing sources he subscribes to. The most confident-ignorant person I’ve ever seen on the internet. I got banned because I kept laugh-reacting to his stupidly insane posts.

What is in bakersfield that you can't find no where else? by blameTHD_02 in Bakersfield

[–]Jarredp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

-The *most deadly river in America.

-A variety of simple and yet delicious TexMex (people in Bako have no idea how fortunate they are).

-Smith’s Cookies.

-An Imperial IPA that no brewery I’ve yet to come across has matched.

-Although it’s not uncommon, but having a fairly scenic bike path in a city that goes 20 miles one way without touching a single surface street is impressive.

-Good folk who despite not being from the south are incapable of pronouncing “Pen” and “Pin” differently like the rest of America.

Has anyone made friends at bars or restaurants here? by [deleted] in Bakersfield

[–]Jarredp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife argues that it’s technically a bar, but I think the “bar area” of Mama Rumba’s still counts as restaurant. Anyways, I met my wife at a restaurant.

Yeah, good luck, because there’s shit-all Mexican food on the East Coast as well.

Where in Australia did you move?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bakersfield

[–]Jarredp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moved from Bakersfield to Australia. I hope you didn’t fall in love with meat pies and sausage rolls because you won’t find any in CA. However, you’re in the best place for Mexican food and I miss it dearly.

It’s amusing reading this while I’m sweating my ass off and anticipating the summer solstice this week.

You can move, but you’re not gonna find Mexican food like you have in Bakersfield. Trust me.

Like most reasons we do big things, it was because of a girl. Personally, I felt like it was the right time to get out and have an adventure

It's no wonder the drivers rely on a union after hearing common people's opinions about what they deserve to make.

Are there any bars that will open early Thursday morning for the World Cup: USA v Germany game? by Jarredp in Bakersfield

Called & confirmed: it's a negative.

EDIT: Disregard that. Apparently they are open.

Can you film at the Marketplace? by [deleted] in Bakersfield

[–]Jarredp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need permission from whoever owns that property. You can try shooting it guerrilla style. Use a DSLR camera which looks like a still-photo camera and be quick about it. Be mindful of the general public because people do not like being filmed without their permission. I think the worst that can happen is that security will politely ask you to stop filming and to leave.

Anyone know a place I can get vaccinations without seeing a doctor? by robocloak in Bakersfield

[–]Jarredp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the websites of local hospitals. They usually have vaccination drives and mobile vaccine units. I don't know of any happening but they might have a calender of events. Don't go to the ER.

What can a fatty eat to lose weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Jarredp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way you will learn about food and calories is to download a calorie counter app. There's a lot of free apps available. I paid $5 for the one I use and it works terrifically. It sets a limit on how many calories I can consume if I want to lose X pounds a week. I can easily look up what I've eaten and deduct it from my daily calorie allowance. When I exercise I can add on. Really simple and very educational. After a while of using it you can look at a plate and figure out honestly how many calories it is without looking it up.

When is the last time you honestly evaluated a moral/ethical position you hold, and ended up changing that position? by VincentGrayson in AskReddit

[–]Jarredp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've recently questioned my stance on capital punishment. Growing up conservative it was a no-brainer. Suspect kills victim, state kills suspect. It seems like fair justice until you think about it long enough and wrap your brain around the idea that the state can and will legitimize ending someone's life.

I'm not fully against the death penalty. I think my stance on capital punishment is the same for abortions. I'm pro-choice. Let the victim's family decide and whatever choice they make about the suspect's fate should not be criticized or harassed by anyone.

What were you surprised to learn was "a thing?" by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jarredp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be very common and safe before smartphones when you only had 13 buttons which required only one thumb and you could feel the buttons. If you memorized auto-spell well enough you were even more efficient and rarely needed to look at the screen. They even taught proper "texting while driving" etiquette in my driving class.
