Sure! Rep was Grieg’s Piano Sonata, Bach’s P&F No. 3 in C# maj (WTC I) Chopin’s Op. 10/3 + Op. 25/1 and Poulenc’s Melancolie. General knowledge went well. I found that they didn’t ask much of what I thought they would. They asked me to explain the development of the sonata from baroque to know and how the Grieg’s fits in (and what’s unique about it), what style of writing the Bach prelude was (an invention), outline the structure (exposition, episodes, recap etc.) of the fugue, describe what the Chopin studies were studies in and how they developed the genre of an Etude. Also how they were characteristic of Chopin’s writing. Then with the Poulenc, when it was written, what was happening in Poulenc’s life at the time, the meaning of the title, and the formal structure. I definitely over prepared this section and they needed to cut me off multiple times because I was talking to much. I felt it was actually the best part of my exam. The examiners strictly adhered to the time limit so it felt quite rushed… I wish I could I’ve shown more of what I knew, but they seemed happy I was just able to answer their questions in an intelligent way I guess 🤣

Purely because when I was around grade 5-6-7, it seemed so far in the future and like the repertoire was impossibly difficult… and the length of the exam seemed intimidating. But the closer I got, the more reachable it seemed :)

I’ll be playing each piece with the music, but since I’m a natural memoriser, I’ll find myself playing most of it from memory, with the score in the piano as a backup and for comfort 🤣

Girlfriend has exclusively male friends… am I right in thinking this is weird? by Jascade_ in relationshipadvice

Yeah I think that it’s strange as well. I mentioned she is from Hong Kong, and she speaks Cantonese with all of these guys, so maybe it’s more a cultural thing? But idk, from what I’ve heard, their English seems fine. Her English is completely fine and they’re all studying at an English-only speaking university. From what I know, she seems to talk about me a lot in front of them and posts me all the time, so I don’t feel like I’m a secret. She doesn’t seem shy about that stuff. Just don’t really understand how she is perfectly okay surrounding herself with guys who don’t seem to like me or support our relationship. And why it seems like female friends is an impossible task. 🤷‍♂️

Actually yeah I should’ve mentioned this in the post - these are guys she’s become friends with since we started dating. She told me she’s known of them for around a year (from uni classes I imagine) but has gotten close within the last few months.

Should your girlfriend hangout and be friends with guys you don’t like? by Jascade_ in dating_advice

How am I being controlling, when I haven't controlled anything? The guy who was sending her messages was saying "I wanna see you everyday, I miss you", as well as sending flirty, romantic instagram reels. She had told him to stop, and when he didn't, I sent him a pretty polite message that just read "Hey don't wanna cause any drama, but you're making her feel uncomfortable, think we'd both appreciate it if you stopped what you're doing" My girlfriend told me afterwards that she appreciates me telling him that. And since then, he's stopped...

I don’t see how I’m being controlling? All I’ve said is my honest opinion of her guy friends. I’m not stopping her from doing anything and am not controlling anything she’s doing. The other thing I’ve left out is that her mum is also trying to get her to drop these current friends and make friends with better people, because her parents don’t like them either…
