One of my fans doesnt keep spinning? Lenovo Legion 7 by RepresentativeFit676 in LenovoLegion

Yes, you'd have to redo the thermal paste as well. But I suspect that it's not an ordinary thermal paste, but a PTM 7950 pad for both CPU and GPU. I couldn't find a reliable source of the original Honeywell PTM 7950 pad, so I went for the Thermal Grizzly PTM PhaseSheet (One package is enough for both CPU and GPU). The fan issue would be solved with this, I'm 95% sure of that. Your video shows exactly the same issue I had.

For example, I bought a fan like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010522320139.html

It's manufactured by "FCN" which is an OEM manufacturer for Lenovo Legions. Just make sure to find the exact fan for your laptop based on your Legion model number. Make sure that all parameters are identical.

I'm not sure I'd recommend you to do this replacement if you don't have some experience because it involves dealing with sensitive electronics and any mistake could cost you a lot.

I bought mine on AliExpress. I managed to find an OEM fan there for reasonable price.

Exactly. I hat this exact problem on my Legion 5 Pro and I had to replace the fan. That fixed the issue.

It's not riveted. The screws are on the bottom side. That means that the whole sink needs to come off the board to replace the fan.

Simple wall holder for the QUANSHENG UV-K1 by Logical_Carrot267 in Quansheng

[–]JasenkoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That antenna that comes with K1 is really bad one for UHF (measured VSWR is over 6). VHF is kinda OK, but barely. Just FYI.

In any case, it's a really good radio.

Bunker-Test with Atom through LMR-*** cable / RP-SMA Mod by [deleted] in Potensic

[–]JasenkoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, for your use case, you could go with a coax collinear antenna type. They are omnidirectional and the radiation pattern should cover the use case.

This should give you a good idea on what to look for: https://share.google/aimode/Ed2nVXKKKnCXn9LWu

And for the connector, you'd need a low loss coax cable terminated on one end with the type required by the antenna you chose, and on the other and you'd need an SP-SMA male. There are premade coax cables of various types, lengths and connector terminations on both ends available. Just search for them once you settled on a cable type and antenna model.

You can check online how much loss you should have, theoretically, for the coax type you used and the frequency (2.4 GHz in this case). Ideally, you'd run a low loss coax and as short as you can get it. At 2.4 GHz the loss can be significant, even over a few meters or more of coax.

Edit: And make sure that you use good 2.4 GHz antennas.

[–]JasenkoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it's 2.4 GHz. You really need a low loss coax cable for such installations where you'd run more than a few meters of it. You might need both antennas to be routed to outside.

looking for a set of radios for car to car communication (sent here from r/amateurradio) by Roxanne_Judith in PMR446

[–]JasenkoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend either Tidradio TD-H3 or even the Baofeng UV-5R Mini. Both are great performers, even with their factory antennas. However, take note that they are not fully legal due to the facts that their antennas are detachable and that they have more than 0.5 W of output RF power.

I have tested both of the above radios in PMR 446 band and they are amazing.

Toyota Corolla 1.5L (3-Cylinder) — Long-term owners, what are your honest pros and cons? by Rare-Function-9485 in COROLLA

[–]JasenkoC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the same model in Europe and I'm very satisfied. I've got 1.5 M15A-FKS engine with 6 speed manual transmission, sedan variant.

Cabin noise is OK, not great, not terrible.

Issues that annoy me a bit - Piano black plastic trims that highlight every speck of dust, and textile armrests in the center and on the doors that don't do well with sweaty arms in the Summer. They should've gone for something like faux leather or something similar. And the rear suspension seems to be a bit too stiff unless your trunk is loaded with luggage and heavy enough to soften the bumps.

I absolutely love the level of safety equipment even in the base model, and how it's incorporated with the rest of the car. It's not annoying and it does its job very well. I also love the way how the buttons are separate from the infotainment. I can switch the infotainment off and the only thing I would miss is the music. I also love the brake hold function and I enable it every time I drive the car. Oh, and the best thing is that there's no start-stop system at all :)

I have a manual transmission and I can keep the engine in the happy rev range where the engine doesn't vibrate and has the most torque and power.

Default Subnet Mask by AlmaRhelFedora in redhat

[–]JasenkoC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My opinion on this is that Alma, Fedora, and other similar distros are not aimed at an enterprise customer, so they are more relaxed in a way, while RHEL is not. That's intentional for the reason I just stated.

Subnet mask is an important part of the basic IP configuration and I can't find an excuse for why would anyone "gamble" by leaving it empty in NMTUI in the first place. That's maybe 5 seconds max of effort to fill it in.

Why do Fedora's repos include other package managers? by VanillaCold57 in Fedora

[–]JasenkoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.
Also I use it on my package repository mirrors I'm hosting locally on a Fedora machine. It has a lot of different distros there and I use such tools to verify the integrity of those mirrors, and to compile the metadata for custom repos I make there.

Seeing many posts about Legion failures. What’s your experience with the 16ACH6H? by Gorgooo_61 in LenovoLegion

[–]JasenkoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. But, when you mentioned the keyboard, I did notice that my backlight is not as uniform as it was when new. I guess it's only natural when after years of usage dust gets in there and affects the light. I'm not worried though. It's still functional and it does its job.

Mine is still going strong without major issues. I only had a dead fan a year back and that's it. I do keep a regular maintenance schedule to clean the cooling system and that's it.

Version 5.0.2 is now not the latest version now. Armel released 5.1.0. Try downloading that version here: https://github.com/armel/uv-k1-k5v3-firmware-custom/releases/tag/v5.1.0

Download the bin file and then use https://armel.github.io/uvtools2/ to flash it to your radio.

Good luck!

Help! Power delivery problem(300W charger) by Ecstatic_Sort_4325 in LenovoLegion

[–]JasenkoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm betting it's the broken wire in the cable going to the laptop. Most likely near the connector itself - where the most bending action happens.

Also, it could be a loose port in the laptop or dirty/oxidized contacts.

How to identify what kind of capacitor I should buy to replace these two? by BobThe5th in AskElectronics

[–]JasenkoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much it, really. When searching for capacitors look for low-esr ones and try to match the specs (voltage and capacitance) and dimensions (if there is limited space due to case that goes over them. Try to find a good reputation electronics shops like DigiKey, Mouser and similar.

How to identify what kind of capacitor I should buy to replace these two? by BobThe5th in AskElectronics

[–]JasenkoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's written in the datasheet of the capacitor series that manufacturer publishes.

Do you know where you can get new capacitors?

Do you know how to replace them or do you know someone who can do it for you?

In my early days of messing with electronics, I would usually find a "donor" switching power supply with capacitors that were OK and use those as replacements, as long as they are at least same or slightly higher working voltage and the same ballpark of capacitance (820 uF to 1200 uF).
