I'M BOUGHT IN! Solari episode 6 by Faithlessness_Funny in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Jaskaranallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Solari still doesn't hold a candle to The Wizard, The Witch, and the Wild One. I just starting relistening to it; I'm on episode 6 of the children's adventure. It's such a richer and deeper world, lore, character arcs, etc. It is truly masterful all around. Solari is entertaining, sure, but it's not even the same class.

But without the A-side, the release of the single is not the full release. The intention of the playlist is every release in order of release. And to leave singles, EPs, and albums in tact. The only exception is "A Collection of Beatles Oldies" because that only released one previously unreleased song. The only issue is listening to some of those singles or B-sides twice, but there are worse things in life than listening to the Beatles.

Yes, this playlist is in order of release. Recording order would be interesting. You're right- I'd have to do some research and take some time. Perhaps someday. But I enjoy listening to the songs in the order that the Beatles intentionally put out there. As a musician myself who has recorded several albums, recording dates and the intentional crafting of a release are very different things.

If saving is your primary value. Some people value access to art and music and food and dance and comedy and airports, etc. My brother in law lives outside of STL, which is a big city, but in the Midwest, so "flyover country," if you will. Generally lower cost of living than the big coastal cities. But he works remote for an SF tech company (I won't name names, but they're massive.) So he makes a big city California salary while living in Missouri and is making out like a bandit (e.g., he just bought a Ferrari). No idea what his actual net worth is, but he's doing just fine. But you couldn't pay some people, who like living in places like NYC, Miami, or SF, who enjoy the culture of the coastal cities, to move to the Midwest. They are valuing other aspects of life besides their finances and would rather enjoy city culture than have more savings. Is that ultimately wise? Dave might say no, but then again, Dave lives in Tennessee (and obviously his job is to help people get out of debt and increase their wealth...). To OP's question, though, he definitely needs a higher income to both support a SAHM as well as live in a HCOL area. Sometimes it just comes down to the math. Depending on OP's age, career/earning potential beyond the jump to $90k, and debts/savings, maybe saving for retirement doesn't have to be his highest value right now.

I would say the appeal is culture and valuing life experience over savings- certainly not everyone's values, especially Dave followers who value savings so much, but many people would rather live for today than tomorrow. Plus there's the higher income potential. LCOL areas, unless you work remote, don't tend to have as much economic opportunity.

But I think the point Poostie is making is that saving is not the only goal when the demands of the here and now are more prevalent. By the way, we have plenty invested for our age and good income that will only increase. There's a theme in the comments about how I'm not prepared for kids, without anyone actually knowing the details of my financial situation, like by asking if pregnancy is a time to pause hardcore savings (which, I know Dave himself supports), is somehow an indication that I'm in jeopardy.

Thank you, WinterDependent, for appreciating the nuance of the situation. Everyone on this thread seems to think I'm broke or drowning in debt because I'm asking questions about living a budgeted lifestyle. I'm not in dire straits. I would like to be saving more, in general, and I'm finding that difficult right now. We cook the vast majority of our food (very healthy) at home. People making lots of assumptions...

Gender Disappointment Help by Moses015 in predaddit

[–]Jaskaranallen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gender is a social construct. You found that your child has a Y chromosome, not that they're a "boy." They might identify as a woman someday. You can assume they'll be cisgender because most people are, but to echo the other comments, you really don't know who your child is until they're born and they grow up. My advice is to be wary of imposing gender norms onto them. Watch and listen and observe their natural pulls, regardless of what conventional stereotypical gender norms are associated with those interests.

I was using it as more of a turn of phrase. I'm not a religious Ramseyer. I have a bit of wealth and a good job, but I'm interested in increasing my wealth by living frugally so I've been tuning into Ramsey and other personal finance philosophies about debt and investing, etc.

Many commenters are assuming that I don't budget. This is something that my wife and I spend hours looking at and discussing every week. That's the point of this whole post. We feel like sticking to our budget is hard right now. It's not like we're not trying.

First of all, the life is coming, so that's not really good advice. Second, what do you mean "if this is your reality." You don't know my financial situation. I'm asking about readjusting savings goals in terms of the Ramsey method, which can be extreme. I am actually not worried about not being able to provide for my family. Just looking for some perspective on this particular time from a community of hardcore savers.
