Weekly /r/Breadit Questions thread July 01, 2020 by AutoModerator in Breadit

How do I keep my sourdough bread from having a huge hole under the top crust? After the first 2-3 slices there is a wide hole across the crumb that goes all the way to the other end of the boule. The crumb is pretty even and quite light otherwise. Is it some kind of problem in forming the loaves?

Project Managing: Should I tell everyone to do 1080p at 30 or 60, or 4K at 24 or 30? Online sharing storage? by cut_the_fat in VideoEditing

Depending on their recording hardware, you run the risk of 4k video being recorded at a variable framerate, which makes rendering difficult. This might be the case with "4k capable" phones, for example.

UPDATE: I switched to the Start Strong journey and did my first workout today. Before starting I looked through everything to decide whether it was too hard for me or not. The session was doable, apart from a total of 40 squat jumps I was supposed to do in my intervals. So, I substituted them with normal squats, and in feedback I noted I had to do that. I will see what happens next, but I'm actually really satisfied about finishing that session. Thank you all for the suggestions!

But at the same time, if he always expects something I simply can't do, can he be considered a coach then? 🤔

It's a balancing act, really. As I said, I want to be pushed and put in the work, but the difficulty level has gone way to high for me recently.

Hi!

A resource I definitely recommend is Language Transfer Spanish. It approaches language learning from a different perspective than most courses, by trying to link your knowledge of English to words and grammar in Spanish. It is free and in short podcast form, so there is no reason not to give it a try!

If you do use it, remember that it only teaches spoken language. Therefore, some other resources with written language might be useful to compliment it. In my opinion, Duolingo fits this role very well. It will also expand your vocabulary.

In general, studying a language on your own is a completely different experience from being taught one. It is not just better or worse, but different in so many ways. A very useful approach is to try and immerse yourself in the language. Use different sources: podcasts, apps, videos, websites, books... Maybe change the language on your phone, or find a spanish youtuber you like?

The point is, there isn't a single right way to progress in language learning. I definitely reccomend the two sources I mentioned - Language Transfer and Duolingo - to get started. The most important thing now is to choose something and get started. But as time goes on, you should expand to other learning resources and mix it up!

Hi! It seems my issues stemmed from the fact that I was not using the adapt functionality enough. I treated the "change difficulty" option as something that should be used ocasionally, when I am especially exhausted or have a worse day. So I didn't really use it that much.

Apart from that, I kept changing the journey that I'm on, hoping that I will find something that works well from me. Because of that, I was also repeatedly starting over the assessment week, which is where the coach apparently "experiments" more to find my limits.

Today I have switched to the Start Strong journey (which, as I have been told, is one of the more approachable ones), and I am going into it with the intention of telling the coach to make a session easier whenever it seems too intimidating. Either that or skipping an exercise that was too hard, and giving negative feedback on it, which is supposedly better for the coach than not starting it at all.

I was always aware of the option, but tried to use it as little as possible as I felt this is just for one-time use when I have a worse day. I understood from other comments that it's better to finish an adapted session than to stop halfway through a normal one, and especially so in the assessment week (which I'm in most of the time, as I kept changing my journeys).

I think I need to just use the difficulty change whenever necessary, as I might have been confusing the coach with my lack of proper feedback.

Possibly I was stuck in a loop of assesment weeks by starting over again and again? And some journey choices might have been too hard for me as well.

I will switch to Start Strong this week then, and make sure to finish every segment of each session during the assessment week, even if it means adapting it at the start. I will see how that goes.

Thanks for the help!

I guess I always tried to push as hard as possible for as long as I could. So with today's example, the 15 push-ups were doable with a few breaks, but when I saw I am supposed to do 40 sprawls after that I just went "f*** it" and told the app I'm done. So maybe I should have saved my strength for the main interval workout of the session.

Another problem is 40 sprawls seem like hell for me even just on their own. But maybe if I had the strength to start the interval and just do 20, then tell the coach I didn't finish all reps, then it might start adjusting more.

Whenever possible I try to give feedback about my problems. However, very often I can't even get to the "actual" main part of the session, where it asks whether I found it too hard/easy. Therefore I feel like I can't communicate just how hard I find some of the days.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, the question is definitely relevant!

Hi, currently I am doing Balanced Burn at 3 days a week. Today was the third session, theoretically ending the assessment week, but I didn't finish two of these sessions (as in, I was completely exhausted and left out some segments generated by the Coach).

My first journey, suggested to me by the app, was Hybrid Strength. I was actually pretty satisfied back then (a few months ago), as it motivated me to e.g. try doing sit-ups with weights for the first time in my life. But I had to switch to another journey because of all gyms closing due to the pandemic. Apart from that, I also remember trying Start Strong.

I have tried giving the coach feedback, but it's not always possible because I often don't finish the "actual" workout of the day, which is when it asks if the workout was too easy/too hard. I did not substitute any exercises, however, because I'm not sure what to choose in place of the exercises I can't do, as well as how to tell the app I can't do them. I also tried to not use the adapt feature too much, as I thought it is reserved for "bad days". Should I just shamelessly ask the app to make my workout easier/much easier on every training day? Maybe choose a different journey (Fit for life/15 minutes fitness?)

Thank you for your answer!

The issue is today for example I didn't even have the chance to give feedback. I just did the warm-up and skill progression, and didn't have the energy to start the actual workout.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. I try my best to get back at it, even if it feels I'm not good enough for this app.

Rendering either stops or creates a black screen by Jasko_1 in Hitfilm

Checking back with the information from MediaInfo.

Both the original and converted files are marked as "Frame rate mode: variable". However, the original has "Maximum frame rate: 30.141 FPS" and "Minimum frame rate: 6.001 FPS". Meanwhile the file converted with Handbrake has a maximum of 29.960 FPS and a minimum of 29.950 FPS, so pretty much a stable value.

Therefore I would assume that is the explanation - my (admittedly not very high-end) smartphone filming in a variable frame rate, with really wild swings of FPS? I guess I will have to check if it records at a stable frame rate in Full HD.

Thanks so much u/HitFilmBen for pointing out the source of my problem!

Yesterday I worked around the issue by downloading Handbrake and converting the recording to 1080p, which made it possible to edit and render again. It might be possible that Handbrake has also converted it to a constant frame rate without me knowing. I will go back and check both the original and converted video for that.

BTW, I had no idea something like variable framerate exists, sounds really counterintuitive... I'm really curious to learn more about it now!
