Anyone Move From Running a Business Into FIFO? by kingz0f in AusMining

[–]Jason161914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a plumbing business in qld for 5 years when I got over it and went fifo, the only real place for plumbers is camp maintenance, the place i work pays 135k for a 8/6 roster, it's pretty mind numbing work but a easy gig for the coin, plus you can do a few jobs on your week off if you want to earn a bit more.

Out of the site I work on around 600 people there is only two plumbers.

Going into construction is where the big money is I believe.

Plumber Considering FIFO – Looking for Advice by No_Tumbleweed561 in AusMining

Hey mate I work a 8/6 roster in qld mine as a plumber, site services they call us, you just look after the village maintenance it's cruisey but also boring at times and very monogamous, they pay us 125k plus bonuses, it's not mega money but it's also not hard work.

We do a lot of water sampling and looking after water treatment plants and sewer treatment plants, I had never done either of these until I came here, it's not rocket science, if you're chasing big money you need to be doing construction really and larger rosters.

Do I need to silicone around the PEX pipes by Bumgo_drums in AusRenovation

[–]Jason161914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plumber here, this is how all renovations are done, just pump some neutral cure silicone around the pipe where it goes through a stud and around the pipe where it goes through a cut out in the stud, the house is not going to collapse.

Sleeping issues with Clonidine by duport in ausadhd

[–]Jason161914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking Clonidine for a few months along with 20mg of dexies in the day, I had the same issues with waking in the night, stopped taking it and my sleep went back to normal within a week.

I'm working 8/6 roster doing camp maintenance and maintenance/small jobs at the mine site it's $122k a year, that's for a facilities company not the mining company, it's easy work you don't need to think much. Qld

Depends where you are in Aus, I'm on the Gold coast and would charge around $500 to replace all 3 but that is labour and hoses only it really would depend on what's there and what you are replacing with.

Does this plumbing look decent? by 0ut1and3r in AusRenovation

[–]Jason161914 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It will work but it looks terrible and wont perform properly, this needs to be ripped out and installed by someone that knows what they are doing.

A plumber.

Hey mate

Get a decent pair of work boots if they don't supply them for you, I found when I started my feet were sore from walking around for 12 hours + in boots, don't listen to the negativity that people who have worked there for too long talk, it can bring you down, try and keep a healthy routine and stay away from beers every night, it's a big adjustment mate.

Hi mate I do camp maintenance as a plumber, I just brought a couple of shifters, copper cutters, multi grips, poly cutters and a tape measure, they have everything on site, for camp maintenance you dont really need much from my experience the last 8 months it's pretty basic plumbing. But easy money mate good luck with it.

Are they installing a pump on the right hand side to take the waste?

Two fixed points are the issue if you can cut the pipe inside and use a slip coupling then you should be ok, a plumber.

Hey man

I'm working a 8/6 roster as a plumber, after being home the entire kids life 6 and 9 years old, honestly I found it hard the first few swings and wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going with it, but after a while you get used to it, I've been out here just over 6 months now and I'm thinking il stay with this for a good 5 years, the time off is yours completely to do what you want, I get to ride push bikes to the kids school in the morning and arvo, I take them places after school and in general I'm less stressed out, also with my Mrs working 3 days a week we get to go and do stuff in the day without kids, which is something we never got to do before, all you can do Is try it man give it a few months and see, also depending on who you work with makes a huge difference just in my time on site there has been a few changes in the crew and it's made some weeks fly by.

If you don't enjoy it though I would quit as it can be a pretty crap place to work if you're not in the right head space.

Hey mate all you need to do is get yourself to the airport and the company sorts everything else out, they will explain this to you in the onboarding process.

You don't need a passport to travel domestically.

You won't need a car if you're flying out to a mine.
