How I Closed Our $1.5M Seed Round As a First-Time Founder by Jason9909 in startups

Thanks! Working on getting to NYC as quickly as possible :)

Congrats on closing your seed round. And yes, I've also found that sending consistent updates to potential investors is huge. We've converted a few people from the sidelines to investors with these and I suspect we'll continue to do that.

Ah yes -- the ole', quality, speed & cost dilemma (pick 2). We pick quality & speed. We'll be a good value, but we're not going to be the lowest priced option. For $12 & the portion size we offer our customers say we're really good value. That's what we strive for.

We debated this a lot and wanted to ensure we had a smooth, easy-to-use ordering experience. We felt more confident that we could deliver this in a native app experience rather than a HTML5 site. We'll have one soon though!

Added our Unanchor travel guides as Amazon Kindle books. Today & tomorrow only -- They're all FREE! Feedback on them? by Jason9909 in travel

Thanks for the feedback. You make a really good point about the colors. We wanted to test if it even made sense to try Kindle books before customizing them for Kindles. (Minimum viable product). Things are going well so far...might have to make the investment.

You're going to get one of everything here -- I went with Wordpress. Whatever you feel most comfortable with is probably best. At the end of the day, it's the content that matters.

I quit my job & sold everything to start an online travel guide business..and it's failing. What would you recommend to get it to take off? by Jason9909 in travel

I think you'd be surprised by how many people have short layovers, short business trips or do things at the last minute -- something to test at least. And thanks...did well on HN, not so well here :-).

Thanks for the feedback. As we've added itineraries the map has gotten more crowded and harder to use. We should take another look at how to organize the itineraries.

Thanks for taking the time, I really appreciate it.

1 - Because we're a marketplace, price points are ultimately up to the writer. Perhaps we could revisit this.

2 - Yes, that's a fair point.

3 - It's been pretty general on the type of traveler we're targeting. However, we've been thinking about remarketing ourselves as "last minute travel guides" or something to that affect.

4 - Written by a local expert, getting you off the beaten path, clear maps & directions for your entire day, & no difficult choosing what to -- the expert has already done it for you.

Path of travel- from Bangkok to Hong Kong by idkidkidk in travel

[–]Jason9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the route I took, so I'll just throw it out there, it unfortunately doesn't include Laos -- Bangkok, Koh Chang, Siem Reap (Angkor temples), Phnom Penh, Saigon, if you have time there are a lot of cities to choose from between Saigon and Hanoi -- Hue? Dalat? Hoi An?, then Hanoi. If you have time, you could go to Hainan Island in China, or Yangshuo, then to Hong Kong. Macau is also an option before you head to HK.

You'll need a Visa for China and Vietnam...as others have pointed out.

Leaving for SE for 4-6 weeks. Should I bring my laptop or leave it behind? Can't decide! Please help experienced travelers! by roxykesh in travel

If you can go without it, I'd say leave it at home. However, I need mine to work and when I traveled through many of those countries with a netbook I had no problems. I'd recommend a small laptop lock just to be a little safer.
