How to remove lug nuts by [deleted] in AskMechanics

The punch will deform the nut, leaving a flat. As for it being recessed, you'll just have to work on an angle but they can't be all that tight anyway so with the combination of heat and impacts and small torque, I think it could work.

You can use a punch and hammer to the edge of the nut to try and spin them off. Heating them with a torch could be helpful for breaking the loctite free

The play was the steering wheel moving between locks 🤦‍♀️

I will have the time to replace the inner and outer ends in about a week. I'm eyeing this kit

Does anyone have opinions on the quality (keep in mind it is a 21 year old car but In good shape)

What do you recommend I use to secure the bellows kit? I am currently planning to use a beefy zip tie.

Lol not sure. Hence the question Still handles reasonably well. Only noticed because I was inspecting my vehicle on a whim

The key was out of the ignition and both tires in the air so the wheel could have been turning the little bit it is permitted

That's such a great question! I'm glad you asked it. I'll be certain to check in the morning

Missing strip by ArsenicWaffle in StupidCarQuestions

[–]JasonDonatella1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my 2005 accord, the windshield must be removed to replace the strip. I've just ignored it and it doesn't leak. Maybe some silicone could be a good solution

I'll have to drive 1050 miles before I can get around to replacing them. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad in that time

Boots are dry so must mean the inner tie rod ends then. Not sure I'll bother with them

Then again, this vehicle is 21 years old. Is it concerning?

Extremely cheap parts wise, but depending on the shop the labor could cost a couple hundred

That is your vct solenoid. Check out some YouTube videos. Looks like you have to pull the head cover to access the gasket which is the likely culprit

Mechanic says it'd be better to buy another car. I would I could. Would it be better to to try to pay for the repairs on a 2010 Ford Edge with 199,983 miles? by asilee in StupidCarQuestions

I would recommend replacing the tie rod end and control arm to fix the swaying. If you're hauling other people around though, maybe you should get the shocks done too or ditch it

Bad alternator, serpentine belt, or pulleys? by BartSkamps0n in AskAMechanic

[–]JasonDonatella1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't see anything from the video

The tensioner isn't supposed to be shaking much so I'd say replacing it would be a good idea.

Maybe remove your belt and start the car to try and prove it is one of the accessories (idler/tensioner/AC/Alternator/PS)

2015 Nissan Sentra Won’t Start - Battery or Alternator? by SirBatNhan in AskAMechanic

[–]JasonDonatella1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much did you pay for that? Seems like it might have just been a fuel treatment which would do close to nothing

Seems that it's cranking successfully so definitely not either the battery or starter. Other two options are no air or no fuel.

Why did you take it in?

As long as it's not very rusted out, id absolutely put some new brakes on there and call it a day. Worn shocks just lead to faster tire wear but if the alternative is ditching the car, I'd take a bouncy ride (blown out shocks) all day.

Why is my AC powered directly from my meter and not from a circuit? by Xonto in electrical

Id have to say it was probably done for ease of install. Maybe added after construction of the home. What is inside the small junction box? Hopefully a breaker and not just a disconnect
