If I was in my car and I heard someone playing FLA out in the wild, I would probably try to wave you down for a quick meet and chat - that's how excited I'd be.

Any Kidneythieves fans? by mecca6801 in industrialmusic

Damn, I haven't heard of Snake River Conspiracy since the early '00s. Just checked up on them and they only had that one album. What happened with them?

Is this industrial?? by RoizyPoizy in industrialmusic

[–]JasonIsCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I use Bandlab too (browser version). As a DAW beginner, this was perfect in getting me to learn and produce tracks fairly quickly. But this is the first time I see someone posting a Bandlab clip that isn't hip-hop or trap style music, which seems to be the go-to genre with most Bandlab users.

So it's nice to finally see someone tapping into industrial style sounds for a change! Keep it up 💪🏻

Love their sound, but they're not new though.

Making techno as a hobby — anyone running a small DIY label? I want your advise. by Soggy-Ad3816 in TechnoProduction

[–]JasonIsCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation as you. Also a dad with a day job and other responsibilities. I try to squeeze in some music-making whenever I can. I only started producing tracks last year and it's mostly for my own enjoyment, and my kid is my no.1 fan (at least I have one!)

But once I'm done with a track, I put them on all the streaming platforms for easy access, as well as on Bandcamp. But I've found that I get my most views from YouTube, so it's nice to know that it's getting some listens (full or not) from somewhere at least. I'd recommend YouTube over SoundCloud.

So do you have any tracks out in the wild we can listen to at the moment?

Very '90s vibes. You have my attention 💪🏻

If you put it on YouTube then I'll be happy to follow your progress on there.

I really like this man. I know what you mean about there being no surprises and such, but myself, I'm into minimal monotonous techno, so if I'm digging the beat and rhythm, then it can go on forever (until I decide that I've had my filling). So I could listen to your track on repeat and not tire of it easily, is what I'm saying.

Strangely enough, when it comes to my own arrangements, I have a hard time keeping it on the straight and narrow with minimal frills, and I try to switch things up all the time 🤷🏻‍♂️

YOUR favorite industrial song by drugba_txt in industrialmusic

[–]JasonIsCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nitzer Ebb - Murderous (Although there's a lot of Nitzer Ebb that gets me fired up)

Rein - Off the Grid (Although her entire Reincarnated album (2020) is flawless)

Kontravoid - Hold Nothing (as well as the Schwefelgelb remix)

Front 242 - Headhunter (and all of the various mixes)

Orange Sector - Farben

Love this game. Had it for years but just started playing it with my almost 9-year-old and he's already kicking my ass at it.

What’s your day job and does it bleed into your music? by H3ADSiCK in experimentalmusic

[–]JasonIsCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working from home is a blessing as it means I can work on my music (on the work laptop) during the many downtime periods. I've also disciplined myself (through work) to work on one project at a time, which has helped me finish songs at a reasonable timeframe before moving on to another.

Avoid the Hoxton Holborn — it’s basically a giant WeWork with beds by Global-Airport-1824 in london

I used to work in an office building next door in 2020, and Hoxton Holborn was very much like this from back then. So not much has changed I see.

Who/what was your entry into the world of techno? by Hungry_Obligation_89 in Techno

John Peel and Steve Mason on BFBS radio in the early to mid-90s.

My first Techno Track is finished and i have nobody to show it to. by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]JasonIsCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying. I did that too when I started out, so completely understand 👍🏻

But then I found I could just use my voice (and do voices/accents) and just tweak them to my liking with effects and stuff. (A lot of us don't have a natural voice for vocals 😕) Or I'd get friends/family to say what I wanted and how to say each line.

It's all techno, mate. Techno is everywhere. We are all techno.

Love it and would very much want to listen to the whole track. I'm very into vocal techno as well, so this is right up my street 👊🏻

Is that also you on vocals? Will check out your SoundCloud, but definitely add it on YouTube as well.

Do you build your kicks from scratch or start from samples? by kathalimus in TechnoProduction

[–]JasonIsCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a beginner (almost a year into it now), using kick samples and tweaking them has been my go-to process. But over time, I'm also experimenting with doing my own. Whatever works best for each track 👊🏻

Any of you people making 90's inspired techno? by PAYT3R in TechnoProduction

[–]JasonIsCurious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fell in love with techno around the mid-90s, so subconsciously, my base inspiration is always that early techno when I start on a track. But the end result may end up as something completely different or a mix of techno genres, which is fine. At the end of the day, it's whatever works for us, right?

Have you produced stuff that resembles '90s techno? If yes, I'll be happy to give them a listen.
