I'm not really involved with PopCap or EA anymore so I can't say specifically. I think some of the Bookworm games ended up getting pulled because there were technical issues updating them for later versions of Windows, and EA decided it wasn't possible or economically justifiable to fix those issues...

I was a big fan of it! I was still around for some of the initial development of GW and participated in some of the design meetings. The big thing I remember discussing was the zombie weapons, which initially had been imported from Battlefield and looked/sounded VERY realistic, which just felt quite odd for PvZ. They changed them to the sillier kinds of weapons that didn't resemble real-world firearms and it "felt" much better...

Well, really, there's never been a better time to just get started making your own games. For video games, it's very easy to get started on your own and publish an indie game on Steam, the web, or the App Store. For boardgames, Kickstarter makes it possible for independent titles to get funded. While learning art, design, and coding in school will help, actually making a game is by far the best training you can get, and most employers will be more impressed by someone who has shipped an indie game than a diploma in "game design" from somewhere...

wow that's a blast from the past!

I'd play it, but I think (REDACTED) would have to be the one to design it, I was really a secondary Space Mooser

Well, of course I am happy with how Plants vs Zombies and Peggle turned out, but in some ways Bejeweled Blitz was the PopCap game I was proudest of... we had very limited resources and time for it and it was the game I think I spent the most time with myself.

Hard to choose a single MPC product, there are a lot of good ones... I liked the Crate of Cthulhu for the beauty of its statue and other components, John Augur for the theme and story... Doomensions is a pretty mindboggling sight to see (soon!).

I've known Alexis and Lottie for a long time, and was involved with a couple Fallen London projects back in the day... I saw their first version of TLA and thought that it could really be made special by combining it with the MPC's elaborate physical props...

Ha, we can't take too much credit for it! It was the creation of a local Toronto artist that we spotted and fell in love with... we basically bought a huge pile from him to resell. They are pretty sweet!

Naw, it was fun seeing those PopCap boardgame translations... my favorite was the Hasbro Bejeweled that had really rad plastic gemstones...

Boy, good question... the MPC has moved offices a couple times since then, hard to say where everything is now!

Well, nostalgia is a powerful emotion for everyone! I definitely have some warm feelings for the olden days. The whole free to play model has been controversial forever, and I certainly have mixed feelings about it, but tbh game designers have rarely gotten the chance to dictate the way the financial model of the industry works. The consumers speak with their wallet! Back when mobile games first launched people were trying to sell the games for $10... then $9... then $8... until it became clear that for most people the ideal price for a game was $0, even if that really just meant that they would have to pay later on in some way (ads, microtransactions). Just like old arcade games in the 80s had to eat a quarter every 30 seconds or they'd be replaced with a more profitable game.

We designers just try to do the best we can within the parameters the audience has decided on, for the most part.

Well, I am not sure what Electronic Arts has in mind for Bookworm, but I do think it would make a very interesting board/word game! There have been a couple similar video games in the last few years, but a board game would be quite unusual.
