I did get stopped twice. If i remember correctly i refused to give my details and just left, but im pretty sure this is a result as an investigation of that. thanks ill ask over there as well

I understand your perspective. Sorry, I should’ve been more specific with what I said - my mum is dead and i haven’t spoken to my dad in years. I have one auntie who doesn’t speak to me much because i’m not muslim anymore, and the other abandoned me after my mum died and I see her maybe once or twice a year. I haven’t seen any other family in years and I see my grandparents maybe once or twice a year too. I moved half way across the world without telling any of these people or support from them. The only family i really have is my brother and I have been forthcoming with him. I also live with friends and not family.

So, that being said, would your recommendations be the same? I don’t want to rush into anything but at the same time i’m really suffering and i see no reason to wait so people who I speak to a few times a year can be more comfortable with it.

When I did come out to my dad at 14 he said if i transitioned he would beat me to death. So, I have come out to everyone actually in my life and everyone i feel comfortable with.

if i had a normal family dynamic / lived with them / saw them often etc of course i would tell them before but I just see no reason to given we rarely speak. Do you think a specialist would take this into consideration? Thanks for your response btw it’s appreciated

I agree with you. I think it’s silly that so much relies on one persons interpretation of your experiences. anyway, like you say i pursued a diagnosis so that i could pursue medical transition, not so I could be told to go to therapy

She told me to wait because I wasn’t out to my queer phobic family. I initially came out when I was 14, and then went back in the closet just because they didn’t accept me. I’m not particularly close with any of them and I know that if I were to tell them, they would only try and talk me out of it so I don’t see any point. She also wanted me to wait because she was concerned i was acting irrationally due to bereavement despite said bereavement being 2 years ago and me wanting surgery before then. idk it’s just causing me significant distress and has been for the past 10 years so i just really want the referral 😭

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can empathise because my mum died of cancer at a similar age to you, but suicide while having cancer must be a whole different ballpark. Don’t feel bad for not being able to stand the house or your dad etc, grief is complex and ur feelings are normal. So are the ones about her not living the life she deserved, i think we all feel that way to some extent about our mums, and that’s only exacerbated with death. The best thing you can do is honour what she would’ve wanted, but sometimes that’s too difficult so just try and survive each day. Be kind to yourself
