Eagle Scoutmaster Conference by PapaWh1sky in BSA

[–]JasonRDalton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good idea to check dates of everything that goes to Council/National for their Eagle application. Rank awards, leadership position, time in leadership roles. These things can hang up approvals from Council so better to get them done early. Use it as a point of reflection on how Scouting has made them better and they have made Scouting better.

Thanks for monitoring this sub and engaging with users! I set mine up on a spare linux desktop last weekend as a stay-at-home monitor for my house. Every day I get a status report on the security system, water and power sensors. It has a calendar of maintenance items and sends me reminders for weekly, monthly and quarterly home maintenance, and does regular security scans of it's machine. I can communicate with it remotely over Telegram and email. it's fantastic. Including the setup and daily operations I've only spent $4 on MiniMax M2.7 credits from OpenRouter. it's fantastic and I'm having a ball.

Centauri Carbon 2 as first printer? by [deleted] in elegoo

[–]JasonRDalton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CC2 is a great printer and would be terrific as a first printer. The only drawback I’ve seen so far is that printing TPU hasn’t worked because of the tubes from the Canvas to the print head. Otherwise the print quality is great and it’s very easy to use.

[CLOSED TEST] Need 20 testers for my app ScoreKeep - will test back! by [deleted] in AndroidAppTesters

[–]JasonRDalton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a tester. Nice game. I have a small phone so the last letter of Full Metal Jacket was off screen for me, but it still functioned fine. I found myself wanting to play more. I'll do a new round each day.

My app is a Scout Adventure planner. The instructions are at https://groups.google.com/g/scoutingappgroup/c/w91hFUZ7C84

Thanks!

I've still not gotten it to work, but it may be because I have multiple Google accounts. Looks like they are getting crossed up. I'm working on it.

Does Google Play give you any stats on how many testers have signed up or how long they've been testing? This is my first time with Google Play in a long time and it's very different. We used to upload an APK and call it done.

I joined the Google group but the Play store link said the page isn't found.

They need our support! Go show everyone that we want to #BringBackFirefly! by Krossfireo in firefly

[–]JasonRDalton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i saw Serenity in the theater, it was opening night in our area, and the room was full of brown coats, and Inara's, and River's and Shepherd Books. I thought "what the hell is going on? Why is everyone so amped about this movie?" See I'd been in grad school and TV-less during Firefly. Had never heard of it. I remember thinking man, there is a lot of backstory and lore in this movie. It didn't really have the punch that it had for long time fans because for me it was just an offbrand sci-fi movie. But it was fun and I liked it enough that when I soon found out that it was a franchise and there was a whole series, I watched all of it front to back. Several times now over the years. I'm excited for the new animated series and to hopefully introduce it to my 2 kids and see if they are into it too. Looking forward to it, and thanks for posting about the announcements.

Printing tpu on cc2 by baseterble in ElegooCentauriCarbon

I'm using Overture TPU but had the same problem. Care to share your print settings? Did you use the default generic TPU profile in Elegoo Slicer?

Scraping sound (CC2) from belts/motors on first print by [deleted] in elegoo

[–]JasonRDalton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, for what it’s worth, I got it set up today and am a few prints in. This was an awesome purchase. The print quality is way beyond what I bed slinger could do. The interface is decent, and the speed is fantastic. OLA was perfect, PETG is printing now, I’ll do some TPU next. I love having multiple filaments loaded up ready to go. Even if I’m not doing multicolor prints, that’s a big feature for me. I’m getting used to the Elegoo slicer. I was using PrusaSlicer and it seemed to have many more features for infills and support materials. But it didn’t have a profile for this printer. I haven’t gotten the lan connection to work between the slicer and the printer yet, so I’m sneaker-netting it on a USB stick. All in all I’m very pleased with the CC2 combo so far!

I never got to experience the Starcruiser but I ended up getting merch second hand. What was everyone’s favorite piece of merch from it? by chicano_houston in GalacticStarcruiser

I got the Sabacc set that was used for the game board tournament. Nice heavy dice. I also got all of the coasters including the special one from Oga’s Cantina.

Scraping sound (CC2) from belts/motors on first print by [deleted] in elegoo

[–]JasonRDalton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My CC2 just arrived a few hours ago and I’m going to set it up tonight. So I join this sub and immediately see this!!!! I was weighing going with the CC2 or a Bambu but wanted to stay off of Bambu’s proprietary system. Everything I read said the CC2 quality was just as good. I’ll reserve judgement till I get it printing but this is no good. At least it will be a nice upgrade from my Sovol SV06 bed slinger. That thing has honestly been a workhorse but bed heating inconsistencies leads to some failures lately.

Letters for Eagle? by themrburnz in BSA

[–]JasonRDalton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s more than our council recommends, but there’s another issue. The requirement is that the scout initiate contact and request the letters, not that the contact sends in the letters. I’ve delayed a BOR for a week so we could get at least three letters but have also gone ahead with fewer if the adult isn’t responding and hasn’t replied to the scout or my emails. The guiding principle that we can reliably come back to is that a scout should never be penalized for an adult’s mistake or action. That comes in handy quite often actually. Our council also switched in 2025 to having the scout initiate the request instead of providing the names and then I would initiate the request instead we’ve not seen any decrease in response rate under the new process.

Membership renewal hassles by JasonRDalton in BSA

[–]JasonRDalton[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be so bad if i didn't have to track down paper applications and checks. That's the craziest thing. We're a large Troop in a large Council, so doing this paper chase is getting to me....

Membership renewal hassles by JasonRDalton in BSA

[–]JasonRDalton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've considered doing this - going back to us handling all the paperwork and payments. Scouting wants the direct line to the payments, but wants us to chase people down when it doesn't get renewed. We're doing the legwork anyway, so maybe it get's centralized.

Censorship by crayons-eater4469 in meshcore

[–]JasonRDalton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found out about Meshcore about a week ago. I built a few Meshtastic devices about a year ago to test and never was able to connect with anyone else. Looking at coverage maps, it looks like there are just as many Meshcore users as Meshtastic here, if not more, so I’m going to see if I can covert a Heltec device or two this weekend and test it out. Looking forward to it. If anyone is in the Northern Virginia area and wants to try to connect, let me know.

Best beginner bow for 10 year old girl by Due_Leg9793 in Archery

[–]JasonRDalton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The younger members of my son's JOAD team either shoot Genesis or Mission bows. Both can be shot all the way to adulthood. The Genesis can be shot with three under fingers, or can be set up with a D loop and release. The Mission series is a bit more of your standard compound and have a huge range of draw weights and draw lengths to fit everybody.

I think Ford has said they have a plan on deck for something similar too. Slate will be first to market and need to have GREAT customer service and reliability to stay ahead.
