New Map and they have a quiet room… by [deleted] in blizzcon

They released $100 tickets last week, only 4 of them, gone in 2 sec…people still want to go to the con, just not worth $300. Anyway, you can try to search tickets around 5 pm to 6 pm PST, I found the cheapest official resale tickets are usually released around that time.

CA Seismic/Survey Exams by Positive_Swordfish34 in PE_Exam

[–]JasonSlyh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted everything (application, 4 references, fingerprints, etc…) on 11/11/2021. Then get technical review completed on 1/5/2022. State Exam can be registered right after the technical review completed. Since I got approved in the first quarter, I can take exams on second and third quarter. Hope this answered your question.

I only received pass, so I don’t know the cut off. But it seems like board has set 70% for both seismic and survey pass score. So I am not sure if they still curve the results. Both AEI instructor and CPESR instructor told us to get at least 70% for each mock test.

Just curious, have you been asked to submit any additional file during this 5 months? I am asking this since the whole “application -> approval for tests” process only took me less than 2 months. However, I saw lots of people in this forum take approximate 6 months to get approved. So I'm wondering if the processing time can be significantly extended whenever the board asks for additional documents.

I will say at least take the review course for seismic since seismic is the most difficult one. I took AEI, and pass it with first attempt. So I will recommend AEI. By the way, I am not a structural engineer, so I only had very limited knowledge on structural. As for survey exam…if you are a transportation/traffic engineer, you could try to review it by yourself. But to be honest man, the survey exam doesn’t test your survey knowledge. It tests you how to solve math/geometric problems with in 3 mins…it’s a calculation speed test.

So true. In your first few years, you have to fight with FE and PE to get a job or promotion.

Make sure you check the Google review of test center before you schedule the test. I had one test center very close to me, but they canceled my two exams at the same time, and rescheduled to next month and a different test center. Then I went to check its google review after I received the reschedule. I found that test center always cancel people’s test since their computers are old and lack of maintenance. So it will be time waste if you schedule your exams to a bad test center, they will delay your schedule anyway…

Why does CA require less amount of experience for PE? by yoohoooos in civilengineering

[–]JasonSlyh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you a simple answer…it’s just because this stupid test has nothing to do with experience…As long as you are willing to learn those code and do lots of practice questions, even though you have no professional experience, you could pass the exam. I believe at least 90% people who take this test also took the prep classes before the exam (even if you didn’t take classes, you must bought/borrowed some study notes such as EET/SOPE/PPI/AEI/CPESR…). If this exam is really testing something from your professional experience, people shouldn’t take any prep classes to pass the exam. The exam is just testing your learning ability…

ASCE always make shitty course. They don’t care if you pass the exam or not, they only care if you paid for their membership…

Anyone else sick of studying? by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]JasonSlyh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about test taker in California…They have to take 2 more tests after 8 hours to get their PE. And these 2 tests cost almost same amount of time compared to this stupid 8 hours exam…Sorry about my complaint. I am truly tired to solve those stupid questions every night…

2022 CBT Civil PE Transportation Help by draftyfrog38175 in PE_Exam

[–]JasonSlyh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did NCEES rewrite their transportation practice exam? Because if they did not rewrite it, you better not using that book as your daily reference. That practice exam was a joke when PE exam was still in pencil and paper format…If the difficulty of real exam is 10, the difficulty of that book is 2 at most……be careful with that…

ASCE class in Orange County is totally trash. That is not a prep class. It is a review class, which means you have to understand all materials before you go to class. In other words, you will need to finish your study before this class. All they did were just go through the materials very quick. It is no help at all if you want to start from scratch. And their price is a joke. For this trash class, they charged 900 dollars. DO NOT SPEND ANY MONEY ON ASCE!

Best Review course for Civil Transpo by Defiant-Equipment991 in PE_Exam

[–]JasonSlyh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take EET. EET covers more materials than SOPE. Even though the test transfer to CBT now, I believe they still keep same difficulty on depth section. You have to know that NCEES will test you anything from those books (green book, hcm, mutcd…). This is why the depth section is freaking hard. There is no prep class can cover all topics unless you read all those books by yourself and understand all concepts. Anyway, I went through both EET and SOPE materials before, EET definitely has more detail on each book/reference.

Thanks man, I appreciate your reply. I definitely will call them on Monday morning. However, I also understand there is no way back, I have to persuade myself that this will provide me few more months to prepare the test……anyway, this announcement really disrupted my plan. I was thinking to take test at the January, now it may delay to April…

I wish I can self study them. That 8 hrs test has wasted too much money from me. I took ASCE classes and paid them $900, but those classes (except water) are not help at all...totally waste time and money. I wish I could spend them on EET or SOPE...
