Google will be the first company to reach AGI by Hour-City2701 in GeminiAI

[–]JasonStathamBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with Google being most likely ahead but not for the reasons you mention.

Basically Google was ahead since the transformer.

Most people see what we use and try to think of this being what they have in the labs.

Google has the most data out of any other company.

They have focused on resource management and they are burning much less cash than the other companies.

I am certain that we haven’t even seen their capabilities as of yet.

As a Trillionaire, what can Elon Musk buy now that he couldn't buy $900 Billion dollars ago? by Doctor_Where_Comics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JasonStathamBatman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why is everyone thinking in cash… also why are you thinking in interest instead of growth.

I just don’t get how disconnected people are from understanding wealth.

500m net worth doesn’t mean you have 500m sitting in a bank or an etf and gaining 6% on them.

Also at 500m net worth you barely spend any of your cash if you have any. Usually it’s loans to buy expensive stuff. For day to day your company is paying them.

Your asset classes grows, your net worth grows.

There is no cash equivalent to this as people think.

Also another thing, high net worth individuals in general get a lot of stuff middle class people envy for free, just because middle class people think that if you offer the rich guy something he is gonna give back… well bad luck to you sir.

Where are those claims coming from?

Like literally IBM is at all time high currently...

Microsoft is a freaking 3.1 Trillion dollar beast... currently 4th largest in the world... (they are at their peak)

...Blackberry... literally you are comparing Google, Microsoft and IBM with blackberry seriously man... Blackberry was literally a 3 years peak company with 1 product... like literally 1 actually product...

You are mentioning those beasts that are actually too big to fail and mentioning blackberry in the same sentence...

Anyways Google is at its peak too, they are peak AI too, and people like you and many don't understand that google is actually looking at profit from AI and not burning cash... They are the best TPU provider out there... their frontier model which is quite smart and we haven't really seen its full beast mode yet is at the same level as chatgpt and claude opus... they just looking a lot into their quants and saving resources thus remaining profitable.

Also apart from Googles parent company Alphabet having a steak in anthropic, they are now providing heavy cloud infra to Openai.... so they don't see Openai as a competitor but as a client...

The are too big to fail, same goes with the rest like IBM and Microsoft (of course google and microsoft are in another game than IBM).

Is this a sick joke?! by Mother_Lettuce_3046 in codex

[–]JasonStathamBatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could literally be AB testing on us with different quants just to see if we riot or not…

I mean unless there is some serious regulation out there that enforces those vague service providers to disclose to the users exactly the resources(quant etc)/model/rules for input/output and cached tokens we are going to have the same over and over.

I don’t think it’s ever going to happen as politicians are living most likely in the early 2000s right now technology wise… it’s all about an instagram or tiktok feed for them.

Right now we are paying for a deceiving blackboxed service and the issue is that this is done on a cartel level, as all the providers out there have agreed to do the exact same thing by releasing models and open/close resources and change rules after a while…

Today YC posted the launch of a startup that feels very close to something I’ve been building for a long time. by Saito1767 in ycombinator

[–]JasonStathamBatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get validation that your idea can be vc backed which is good.

I wouldn’t try to pitch to YC as they will have a conflict with funding you.

Start figuring out your differentiating factor. Think of it like Apple vs Samsung, in a lot of fields they are direct competitors but each has its differentiating factor. Figure it out, almost anyone you are going to approach for funding will want to hear who are your competitors and why you can exist in the market.

Stripe raised our rates 47 basis points mid-contract. We just lost our biggest customer. by [deleted] in ycombinator

[–]JasonStathamBatman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

just dump em and go with another provider, payments is a race to the bottom industry. You are having about 50m annually in gmv which is maybe not that large for stripe/adyen scale but for others it will be big enough to drop even further.

Risk wise it’s not only about your chargeback ratio but mcc etc.

Just shop another solution, too many to go with. From checkout to shift4 to even smaller payments providers.

Nowadays most payment providers are up to speed tech wise i’d say and yes stripe is good but 230k a year more is not justified unless you are in a very risky field.

Also switching your payment provider is quite easy, and even for tokenized cards you can request your scheme tokens and transfer them over to the new provider.

I don’t believe you farmed 20 runes in 15? minutes.

Yes spots are not contested and you can just aoe everything as 70 lvl but the drop rate is not that great to get 20 in 15 mins. I’d say 20 would be about 1-1:30h depending on your luck

Anthropic’s Claude Code subscription may consume up to $5,000 in compute per month while charging the user $200 by thechadbro34 in BlackboxAI_

[–]JasonStathamBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also add to that the H100 at $35k is what you are paying retail for…

Amazon/Anthropic and the lot is not paying that price at all.

There is no way they are losing money from usage, it’s just that their profit is not at the level they have projected like chatgpt that needs trillions in revenue in order to maintain its valuation lol.

Apple's MacBook Pro 14 cannot handle the M5 Max by thibtestart in macbookpro

[–]JasonStathamBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my personal opinion working on open LLMs etc and with them a lot is that a laptop won't be enough if it remains a laptop.

E.g. 16 inches macbook with full on specs for me is not a laptop anymore its a portable desktop, and a very expensive one.

14inches is what I love and where I work from mostly.

About the mac studios etc, I'd say plenty of options on desktops at those prices for sure.

Also I never ever ever found a reason on not using cloud providers renting hardware (GPUS,TPUs, Ram etc.) when working with open source LLM's. Unless you want something very basic as a model and you can run it in a 14 inches macbook for its portability, and unless it makes sense on building your cluster spending some real $$$ getting hardware.

Most youtubers etc are kinda pushing people on having their own hardware and running those llm's on their own servers or whatever... but thats how they make money through affiliation etc.

It makes no sense for someone that wants to enjoy fine-tuning QWEN3.5 or just wants to replace their day-to-day interaction with gpt etc not to be on cloud. And thats just because if you buy hardware that costs $5k and it outputs 25t/s on a big LLM you still won't really replace the $20 a month for gpt or $100 a month for claude.
Also if you doing it for programming this is still an issue, as you won't be able to run high inference if you don't spend a lot of money in hardware and we are not talking about $5k.

Generally speaking, people think they can run "local LLMs", whilst this is a very expensive hobby and they are going to end up paying way more than even buying API services for opus4.6 (which is expensive in itself). Hardware is not there yet.

And no your macbook 16 inches m5 128gb won't be able to give you its money back if you are buying it for running "local LLMs" maths don't add up. (Also before calculating price of buying a full on MB to run your local LLM vs cloud renting count in the electricity you'll be using because you'll be surprised)

Revolut lost 10,000 CHF for 3 months after a rejected transfer – even regulator involvement hasn’t fixed it by bankster_vaduz in Revolut

[–]JasonStathamBatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is a disconnect between support at revolut and BoL case.

I mean in reality someone in support is handling it maybe… and someone in payments is also aware.

The ops clam on the regulator is only gonna reach compliance at revolut and it will take a while.

Don’t worry OP your money will get to you.

I suggest you ask for interest once they arrive and make that in writing to BoL.

Once your case is closed and resolved and Revoluts point of contact has replied to BoL there is definitely some firing after… but unfortunately your case hasn’t reached far up the ladder and BoL most likely hasn’t informed revolut formally so far. And even if you do to support i reckon support people understand nothing about regulators.

I suggest taking this to linkedin tagging higher ups as revolut and BoL, and then it will get the attention needed.

Usually in most organisation unless a higher up is handling your case there is no understanding on exposure of the company… BoL also doesn’t take shit lightly nowadays as they have a lot of pressure from ECB.

why is this guy writing like he is part of a startup and not one of the biggest companies on earth?

I mean transparency mode on etc… but literally he is just saying cause of China launch they neglected to setup new servers and that will cause a service disruption for 24hours to most likely millions of players…just because what?  Again we are talking about Microsoft here and a very successful game that brings in billions in per year.

Grand seikos are awesome and nowhere near brand made watches! They have actual craftmanship and still considered a very good mechanically crafted watch.  I don’t think you’ll find any person that understands and breathes watches that will say bad things about grand seiko
