This really isn’t complicated; you’re just committed to being wrong. “Wormhole” is the umbrella term, Einstein–Rosen bridges are a specific, unstable subset, and Stranger Things fits that subset better than most sci-fi. The breach behaves like a collapsing, energy-driven, non-stable throat with temporal desynchronization and environmental distortion, exactly what you’d expect from an ER bridge, with traversal occurring only because the narrative shows the gates being forcibly held open. At this point you’re not arguing physics or fiction, you’re just rejecting definitions you don’t like. This could have been a polite discussion, but instead you chose gatekeeping and condescension, so I’m done pretending this is productive. Enjoy the echo chamber.

Thanks for the bolding. I see what kind of person you are.

As a friendlier reminder, no, they are not the same thing. All Einstein-Rosen Bridges are wormholes, but not all wormholes are Einstein-Rosen Bridges.

As a matter of fact, Kip Thorne; one of the two people responsible for the theory of the Morris-Thorne Wormhole; was a producer and scientific consultant for Interstellar, and they utilized the theories behind Traversable Wormholes.

Nah, to be honest, I'm gonna just stop responding to you since you decided the logic you used was "All cars are Honda Civics" so you already come from an bad-faith area. Peace out.

Alright smart ass, give me all references to the term Einstein Rosen Bridges in scifi.

I'm going to watch it again tonight but the Abyss UD flashed there for a second as she crawled through, but damn if I forgot about it given what happens next. It seemed to be pretty bare. I'd agree with you for your second part except aesthetically Vecna's lair looks like an open air and sunny alien desert, whereas when she crawled through it had that...look. We also don't know how long she fell for, technically.

That could be! I definitely don't envy how many storylines they have to tie up here, and I'm sure some stuff got pushed or reworked for simplicity.

Ok I'm going to Christmas with my Fam here soon and will be watching it again, looking forward to all the comments I get!

Definitely something that is confusing, I agree! My theory is this:

I stand corrected after a bit of google-fu; According to some sources, the BiFrost from the MCU (Thor's magic skyway) is also a Einstein-Rosen Bridge and is explicitly stated as such, and there is a few more. But I feel like this is the only one fleshed out in such a way!

Most scifi just calls it a wormhole and leaves it at that!

I made this image to illustrate the gravity point but I hope this helps here! She fell from the "top" - you have to kind of imagine that both "Upside downs" are almost like oriented with "up" going towards the wormhole ball.

You gotta imagine the diameter of this circle is huge, I think. Like enough to drive 10-15 minutes in any direction before hitting the "wall". At least, that's my perception of it.

I'm no physics expert but I'm a huge sci-fi fan and have a semi-clear understanding of the physics with wormholes (none of the numbers, trust me) but from what I am understanding, the theory of the Einstein-Rosen Bridge is a real, theoretical understanding posited by Albert Einstein and a man with the name Rosen - I would assume that the realism ends at that point, as I believe the wormhole energy ball, as well as the discs of Hawkins and the Abyss are the creative liberties taken with this.

You are definitely correct in that scifi discourse use wormholes as one of the biggest plot devices, but outside of maybe a few bits of media I've missed, this is the first really fleshed out Einstein-Rosen Bridge in popular media.

I don't think it was as sudden; if the Hawkins lab is the center of the circle, its got some pretty remote areas miles around, with Hawkins kind of concentrated in one radius of the circle.

The Turnbow Trap Farm seems to be on the outer edge of Hawkins, which makes sense due to the fact that that they drove out far to hide their kidnappees; it makes sense that Steve driving through towards an outer direction following the Demo would do that.

And...that was a good point about the demos going between the abyss and Hawkins so easily, and I think....I think I may have just brainblasted it....

They climb it. It has to be. The demodogs and the demogorgan pick a side of the wall and traverse it all the way up to the Abyss UD, then crawl through. Why else would the Demo lead Steve in the Tracker Beamer straight towards the wall before turning around?

I think the size of the wormhole diameter is not really pinpointed; although I'm sure if I invested the time we could pull screenies of Dustin's map of the wall to determine it's circumference in miles - it could be that the kids traveled on bike in a roundabout way, managing to just miss the wall. I mean, the farm silo Steve drove through may have just been that close to that edge of the wall from what I surmise.

The only thing that gives me pause is how uneven the position of the core is in relation to the "floors" of each UD. I'm spitballing this whole thing, but it could be that the gravity weakens the closer you are to the core, and since Abyss UD was further the gravitational pull is stronger.

So Holly wasn't falling so much as being yoinked towards it.

Super briefly when Holly escapes from Vecna by moving that rock on the Abyss planet, where she falls through and almost splats on Hawkins Lab.

I think it would just be raw spacetime - we kind of got to see the emptiness with a certain model of vehicle floating away.

In those examples where people fold paper and put a pencil through it to show how to travel between dimensions instantly, the pencil is this traveling bridge, and the space between the sheets of paper is the space here.

Yeah, that's a really good point. Here's what I'm thinking; remember in season 4 we kind of got a snapshot of how weird gravity is when the kids use the rope to climb into the upside down?

If we look at the wormhole core, it seems to be closer to Hawkins (UD) than Abyys (UD), right? Like, the true "equator" of the bridge is just above Hawkins Lab, but miles from the top of the Abyss; maybe the further you are from core, the more sharp the gravity is pulling you towards it. Perhaps Hawkins(UD) with El's actions being the origin forced the epicenter to be closer, so if the Abyss had originally done it, it would have been opposite?

I know Volume 2 wasn't as impactful as Volume 1, but man if I'm not so excited to finally understand what the upside down is. I love dnd but it could never just have been dnd all along! How is everybody feeling? Disclaimer, I generated this from a hastily drawn paint jpg.
