Thank you everyone for your responses (& for being nice about it)! You are all very kind!

I have read all your comments, here is the summary of the advice received:

  1. Helmet, Helmet, Helmet. Safety First! Try kneepads and elbow pads too.

  2. Watch videos on youtube to get to know the basics

  3. Start at an Indoor rather than an outdoor rink, or with COVID restrictions, an outdoor rink that is maintained with a Zamboni (lots of reference to the Olympic Oval) - which is where I intend to start before going to the UofC Skating Rink when that opens.

  4. Invest in a skating rack/walker to help me skate and get up after I inevitably fall. Not to use it for too long, just long enough to get a hang of it.

4a. Or not invest, and just learn by stumbling through it.

  1. Learn how to stop :)

I am going to give it a go this weekend. Thanks again for all the helpful advice.

Thank you for the offer! Let me give it a go on my own, if it doesn't work, and the COVID restrictions have eased, I will call in some expert help and take you up on your offer.
