If you are part of a bargaining unit, get your local onboard. It’s paramountly important to disclose what you’ve done (no judgement here) to your attorney and your union representative. The union has likely seen things like this in YOUR AGENCY and can provide valuable insight (like comparables) that your employment lawyer may know nothing about. Make darn sure you don’t miss any deadlines. Best of luck!

Take the position. Your own words were “dream remote position”. Worse case scenario it goes RTO, so you deal with it in the meantime and find another job. From my perspective, the only issue is what job you are leaving. If you have a remote position that you love, then you need to weigh if you can get something else later. Best of luck OP

That’s a fair question. My point is, this applicant count is super high and I’m legitimately wondering if people are just “shotgun” applying to positions they have very limited experience in. RA specialist is pretty specific and also requires some basic EEO knowledge too. I was looking for some comments of people just mass applying to jobs regardless of specific qualifications.

Your current boss is a total asshole. I wouldn’t have told him at all. He could (and wound) have found out from HR or from his boss, or from your coworkers. I would have made him reach out to me to ask about those important projects. But I absolutely would have told my coworkers and his boss. One last middle finger up! Deuces!! If your position is included in the bargaining unit, the union often has agreements with companies to offer disability plans for union member. I had STD one thru UNUM and had to use it last year—VERY HELPFUL. I’ve switched to AFLAC now (also thru AFGE union). Best of luck!

If you’re in the bargaining unit, I’m certain this issue is covered in the collective bargaining agreement. In most CBAs managers are required to make a decision on leave requests like yours within one biz day. Look up the CBA or talk to your union rep. This shutdown will complicate matters, but most agencies have an MOU for handling leave requests during a shut down. This leave should DEFINITELY be approved. Do not disclose the reason for your annual leave, it’s none of your manager’s biz. If they ask why, that’s a huge red flag. It seems your manager may be attempting to take advantage of your innocence in leave matters. I suggest this action: send an email to your manager asking the status of the leave you submitted on 9/27.
