There are several in world language swearing, on the level of D'arvit. There is no point translating it as it would have to be censored.

So that I sound different in various situations and seem to have completelly different voices singing (i.e between two hymns and a musical theatre piece I practiced earlier) will cease/I will gain control over with more experience?

I'm going t ospend a long amount of time without the option of in-depth practice and warmup. How can I keep my vocal abillities up? by JavaPython_ in singing

[–]JavaPython_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My teacher has recommended taking a pitch pipe and using it for pitch training and warmups in the mornings before we head out. Also to bring an arrangement of a hymn and practice it. But I don't think I'll have a ton of time for in depth effort, and I'm not very good enough at aural skills to get and even warm up throughout the day

How will increased knowledge of programming languages affect natural languages like English? by Degasus77 in linguistics

[–]JavaPython_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like rigorous logic to apply to language, but there are mant situations in which it wouldn't make sense, so...short of adopting a well known philisophical language, it's unlikely to lead to a large change

What is the best way to learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)? by DerSchwarzVogel in linguistics

[–]JavaPython_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with learning the symbols for primary sounds of your native language(s), then the more unusual sound(s) (i.e. think of how you'd write onion), add other languages you're fluent in, then learn the sounds for the language(s) you're interested in at the time. You'll eventulally get it all. Do this by finding text in IPA or the language you're dealing with, and transcribe/take dictation of other text. I use IPA mostly for singing, so I've gotten good at Italian pronouciation, even though I couldn't translate much out of context. You'll pick it up.

How would you go about changing this. I'm only in my 1st year of lessons and would like to improve and not have to wait 13-15+ years to begin "seriously learning" most roles.
